    Default Vi Peel

I wanted to share with you all that I got a Vi Peel today, which is supposed to be the latest breakthrough in skin peels, not only because the peel has lidocaine and camphor in it to make it virtually painless, but also because it is available to those who in the past could not get peels due to darker complexions. African American and Hispanic ladies with darker skin (and others) can get the Vi Peel without worry of hyperpigmentation.

Anyway, I am 30 now and not only want to use it as an aging preventative, but also because I have quite a lot of scarring from pimples (and yes, picking). I have attached a "before" photo of me with no make up from the side where you are able to see my scarring. I grew up in the tropics too and undoubtedly have photo damage which the Vi Peel helps to eliminate.

The peel cost $250 (plus I tipped the lady $20) and only took 10 minutes. You wear the peel home, they do not take it off for you, and I will not wash my face with the traditional soap and water method until tomorrow. I was given a Retin-A towelette which I will use to cleanse my face before bed. The peeling starts about day 3 and continues for 2 days. I will put more pics of my progress over the next 7 days but for now I have my before, two pics during the procedure that my mom took (one without the peel and one with the peel on where I am quite red), and a photo of me one hour after. I look like a tomato but that is to be expected.

Also, for those on Retin-A, which I am (0.05%), you will have a deeper peel which is good but means you will look like a tomato for 2 days. Other people just look red for the first day. Right now my face feels like I have a sunburn but it isn't too bad, just slightly burn-y.

Okay, that is my story. Photo updates to follow in a day or two.

Here is a picture of day 2. It looks pretty bad. I think the darker areas are where the skin is most photo-damaged.

What is in it I have done glyeolie acid 50% peel and liked the results over all (though i hate those inbetween red days), but would like a deeper peel for past acne scarring I have tried a few things to correct, but still haven't to my satisfaction.

The Vi has TCA and phenol, as well as some other things including lidocaine to make it a very comfortable process. Here is a link to the main site which has a list of FAQ'S.

According to the aethetician who performed the peel, it can go upto 4 layers. I hope that this first one will remove my scars but for acne pitting or skin that is very damaged from the sun it would probably require several.

Just wanted to say thank you SO much for sharing this as I am in the exact same boat as you so far as skin goes and I've been planning on a peel for a while now for the exact same issues. Looking forward to seeing the rest!

    Day 3
Today the photos are a little graphic as my skin is peeling quite a lot, and unlike a sunburn-style flaking it is coming off in rather large pieces. Last night the dryness and itching were unbelievable, but applying hydrocortisone helped. I eventually went jogging to distract myself. The urge to pick the skin is very great but pulling off skin before it is ready can cause hyperpigmentation and then I’d be right back where I started. I am not yet peeling on my forehead or on the sides of my face, just around the mouth and nose and starting on my cheeks. Overall my skin is still very pink today too.
When I am done peeling and past the 7 day mark I want to start using the Obagi Nu Derm system to maintain my results. 4 days before my peel I started using Retin-A (Refissa by Obaji) and that is part of the system, but I want to go ahead and get the whole starter kit. One of the products contains 4% hydroquinone which will help fade any spots that may still need help after the peel is over. If you look at my “before” pictures you will see what I am talking about.
I hope the peeling hurries up because I am missing work. The website gives you the impression that you can work in the days after the peel but take a look at my pictures today and you will see that is not possible, even in the dim lighting of the club. I’m certainly not complaining but I just want to give everyone the heads up incase they are considering a deeper peel of any kind, not just the Vi Peel. You WILL be ugly for a little while. Thank God my husband is out of town right now.

    Default Day 4

Today my skin in more pink than red and the majority of the large flakes are over. Skin is still tight. I am still not comfortable going out yet but tomorrow should be fine.

Thank you for posting this. I was just looking into the VI peel. An esthetician recommended this or the Fraxel Repair to me as I want to be able to look good in three weeks for a photoshoot.
Someone else told me that I should use a pair of scissors to cut off the large flakes of skin that start to peel off when doing the VI peel..

Results look great and way deeper then what I have been doing. I def am gonna look into it.

I wasn't a big fan of fraxel and thought I got better results from mirco+peel treatment, but I think after a few deeper peels I should finally be happy w the extremely hard to get rid of ice pick scars I got picking on my acne as a teen. If i knew back then what i do now I never would have had allowed myself to take my frustrations out on my face.

Here we go with my 12 day out photos. This was definately a deep peel. You can see that in my peeling photos posted earlier it was not merely a flaking off but actually skin peeling in sheets, which I was happy about.

In these new pictures I am still red in spots that peeled deeper, and I circled them in photoshop in the 3rd pic. It's useful to remember though that with this type of deep peel, even though you are not visibly peeling anymore 2 weeks later your skin is still healing.

With a little time under my belt from the the peeling process I am very happy with the results. I now use the Obagi Nu Derm system as well. Vi Peel is something I may do now once a year or so. The first week is not fun ladies, it just isn't, but the results in my opinion make it worth it to hide out in your cave for the required healing period.

Girl, I feel you. Picking is the worst. This may sound funny but I have had to implement a 2 foot rule from the mirror. That is close enough to put on make up, make sure there is no broccoli in your teeth, and ensure your hair is good to go. Any closer than that, for me personally, and I start "discovering" things on my skin that need immediate squeezing attention. NO MORE!
