    Default I'm so happy... {cleaning up credit report}

    I got 3 negative items (totalling almost $10,000) knocked off my credit report. And I just went back and disputed a few charges (some of these I have no clue...one of which I'm pretty sure is a credit card an ex boyfriend opened in my name...)

    It's going well thus far (3 items!!!) but anyone have any further tips to getting bad stuff removed?

    Also, anyone know how I'd go about finding my rental history? It wasn't listed on my credit report, so I'm curious how apartment complexes and such are getting this information (important to know before I start applying to places.)

    way to go WanderLust. It takes effort and perseverence on your part, but ultimately the fact that the credit agencies must be able to prove that listed debts are actually your responsibility works in your favor.

    this speaks of the corporate versus small business nature of different landlords, where many landlords in the small business category don't bother reporting rental histories. This of course can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the actual rental history in question.

    Good job!!!

    Can I ask how you went about that? I know everyone is entitled to a free copy of their credit report once a year from the government... could I do the same by getting my copy and just combing through it?

    You can get your report once per year from each of the three agencies. Then you just look over the information for accuracy, and they have instructions with the report to dispute incorrect information. I think you can do some of the disputing online now too.

    Congrats Wanderlust!!!! I started to do this before I went out of work to stay home with my daughter. It's a great feeling. Can't wait to start dancing and get back on it!!

    I came here to post a new thread about cleaning up my report right at this moment...and here you are, already doin the same thing! I put my new car shopping on hold for a while to repair my credit, and it does kinda suck not putting this money down for my new Solara, but it feels good knowing that I will start receiving PAID IN FULL letters in the mail soon!!
    Not to threadjack, but maybe you will have some of the same questions. Tony told me last night that when I start calling these people, that I should try to settle with all of them.Now Tony cleaned up his report and got those nice letters and a nice credit score now, but he's also VERY aggressive (in a polite way,lol) on the phone. I'm not like that. If a collector says "Well, ma'am, you HAVE to pay $3,900.00 or whatever....I'll just cower and say OK. Tony would work it down to $1000. IDK how to do this! Are there tactics? LOL Because collectors can get ugly!
    Also, how long does it take before the score starts to rise? I paid A LOT of small things on my report, and I just got current on my student loans...So how long before I go up from GASP 544...lol
    I wanna walk into the car lot without security following me around...I want good credit!!!!

    OH AND WAY TO GO WANDERLUST!!
