Default I Want to Move to Kansas

Semi-serious. The only places I have ever lived in my entire life have been New Jersey and now southern California. People always ask me how I deal with Cali being so expensive and all but coming from NJ I really don't notice much of a difference, it's what I'm used to.

Lately I have been looking at the costs of living in other states and it makes me so sick! Right now I live in a studio apartment right by the ocean and I pay $850/month. If I were to go more inland I could get a studio for around $800-$650. But when I go on Craigslist and look at studios in Kansas(I just use Kansas as my general example) they are in the $300s-$400s!. And a lot of them are furnished and you don't pay the utilities! And they allow pets!!

I dunno. My sister is relocating to the midwest from NJ because the cost of living is so much less, she'll be able to have more for her family. I used to feel like I was tied down to SoCal because of my peepshow job, but A) I'm sure there are some somewhere in the midwest, and B) I now make better $$$ camming and I can do that from anywhere. A relationship held me here too but it's not really going anywhere...except maybe down the toilet. Also next year I was planning on doing a major stripping trip throughout the midwest...what if I just moved there?

I love SoCal, I love the ocean, I love the weather...but I hate to say it, wherever you live it seems like a matter of time till you kinda get used to things. I live right by the ocean and except for the summer season, I never take advantage of it. If I hated the midwest I could always move back too.

Say I got a studio for $350 somewhere, that alone is saving 6grand a year. I dunno. I just know that making the kind of money that I do, if I lived somewhere cheaper I could be pocketing even more of it and I don't seem to have too many justifications for staying here.

im from the jerz and ill never live there again due to the aforementioned reasons.

however, there are plenty of more interesting places you can live with low cost of living. the midwest blows-- trust me. i lived there for 3.5 yrs when i went to college. never again!

if you want help finding cheap places, PM me... im pretty skilled at navigating craigslist to find affordable awesome places with good roommates...
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I'm originally from Kansas and wouldn't recommend it. It's always horribly windy, too hot in the summer and friggin' freezing in the winter. Oh, and many people are still pretty racist back there... which I can't stand.

oh that makes life a little harder. im allergic to leases so finding houses that are already in order with a spare room is the way i get by. its been working fabulously so far... but ive been picky about what roommates i choose.

there are still some gems out there. when i first moved to NOLA, my first place was somebody's pool house. So i had a roommate, but he lived in the house and i lived in the poolhouse, which had all the necessary commodities to get by. So it was like living alone. And it was in a nice swanky neighborhood.

and to give you an idea of the price win on that situation: the first month i paid 500, but after i decided i didnt need access to the house (the only thing i was missing was laundry machines, but the bars around here have laundromats in them) rent went down to 300 a month. So yea, dirt cheap, lots of privacy, nice neighborhood, and a pool.

None of these deter me from a situation in which I'd be saving significant money(although I'm sure there are plenty of other midwest-living elements that may). Doesn't necessarily have to be Kansas too. I'd have to do a lot of research on the whole country.

Just interjecting a few facts re different costs of living in various states

while local rent prices are somewhat set by the 'local market', they are also affected by other financial factors such as local property tax rates. As such, California, New Jersey, and other high tax states cause higher rent prices due to the high property tax component.

along a somewhat similar line, states with high income tax rates also apply those rates to landlord rental income. If the landlord needs say $500 a month to turn a net profit versus costs of property taxes and upkeep and mortgage payment on the rental property, that $500 must be in spendable after-tax dollars. Thus if the state is going to extract 6-8-10% tax, the actual rent charged must be raised to allow for these state income taxes being taken off the top.

applying the same underlying tax principle to costs of living other than rent, states like California also typically levee high 'stealth' taxes on gasoline, on electric / gas bills, on cell phone bills, and of course they levee a high above board sales tax on retail purchases.

If you want to live in warm weather, near the ocean, the cheapest states are probably Alabama and Texas. If you have any interest in buying a place, the price of real estate has dropped significantly in Florida over the past two years.

I think after my breast aug in September when I plan to go stripclub hopping around the country for a while I'm just going to get rid of my place and put my belongings(I don't own much at all) in storage that way I'm not paying rent in addition to my hotel costs from traveling. When I come back here I think I'll get a place in East County where things are a bit cheaper.

^^^ Traveling while you are young and can is a good idea. I envy Athena for being able to do that so much. I've got two kitties and can barely stand to be away from them for 2 weeks at a time. If I didn't have them though I'd probably just stay on the road most of the time, maybe go check out other countries... especially Australia.

I have a cat, I plan on taking him with me lol. It's gonna suck for him bouncing around and being stuck in hotel rooms but there's no one to take care of him when I'm gone.

I can't wait to travel, I want to work in some middle-of-nowhere clubs just for the heck of it.

    Driving Kylea.

You know Ruby, Cali is so big and each part is so different, just try another part maybe! In San Diego alone it differs so much neighborhood to neighborhood. I'm thinking of Santee next year or maybe one of those areas east of Mira Mesa or Scripps Ranch, whatever they're called. Closer to the mountains(but not in them because I ain't driving on terrifying mountain roads every day).

I live in Wichita. Have my whole life. I can understand someone wanting to come here for a change of pace, but I've been here and want to get out after college.

Unless you live in a college town like Lawrence or Manhattan, you're gonna run into huge conservative republican mindsets. Cheap living, yes, but sometimes the people don't make it worth it.

If you do move to Kansas, I would recommend Wichita because it's like, the only place in Kansas that doesn't get hit by tornadoes =P

It is laid back and easy to live in if you can ignore the fundies and conservatives, and there's tons of large apartments for $350-400 and less.

You guys have it so lucky down there! Rent seems cheap compared to where I live. Right now I live in the GTA (Toronto suburbs) and pay $800/month for 1/2 a house. I got a main floor with 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Actually there are 3 bedrooms, but my landlord lives in one of them. He is only home 1 week out of the month so the place is basically mine.

When I lived in the heart of Toronto I rented for $1250+ parking ($200). When I lived in the condo I own it was running me $2 k just to stay there. I get sick of asshole landlords that run tenants for their money, so I bought the condo. Well it got too expensive for me and was forced to do something about it.

So many Toronto landlords own slum like houses and expect top $ for them because of the location. My last landlord (where I was paying $1250/month + parking) had a rodent infested place and when I complained he came by with barbaits and traps. I was like WTF?! There were rats and this dumb ass was too cheap to call a proper extermination company. There were also too many structural problems with the house-leaky windows, roof issues, etc. I ended up leaving and going through a process with the landlord/tenant board just to get some of my money back!

I want to move in the next year or so myself. I want to get breast implants done first, and then travel around Canada. I am saving up to have 80% of my costs covered before I even book consultations. If everything goes as planned I will be going for consults in September or October.
