    Default Leg breakouts

Ladies of beauty, lend me your ear..er..eyes.

Every spring into summer, when the weather warms up, my legs get retarded. I shave daily and it is then my legs break out into half red dots (my poor pores) and full out white heads. WTF?! I lather my legs to dealth, i use good new razors. I moisturize daily.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What can i do to stop this? Anyone get this? Anything i should use/do?

It doesnt happen in the winter and i shave just as much then. So i'm confused and flustered. This stops me from wearing shorts and i'm sick of it.

So please, i beg you...share your wisdom.

This sounds weird, but apple cider vinegar is the best solution in the whole world. Do a google search on how to use it. I started using like a half/half solution and putting it on any problem areas at night, before I sleep. Works wonders. Smells absolutely awful. You get used to it.

PS, it's probably not acne. It's probably foliculitis. It's like a mini staph infection. I used to get it on my butt and knees at an old disgusting club I started out at, from sitting or kneeling on the stage. Yuck.

See a dermatologist. There's a good chance it could be folliculitis combined with allergies.

    Update:
So the exfoliate seems to be working pretty good with the breakouts. But the whole pore thing is still there. There not "inflamed" but my pores on my legs are visible and its annoying. My legs are smooth, but you see like the pores where the hair is.
Is that just a genetic thing or is there a way to make them look smaller?

^^^ Are they red? If so, you might want to try a cooling agent or aloe vera on them.

My legs are ungodly sensitive so yes. It looks like shaving irritation but i lather the crap out of my legs, i use brand new razors and i do it nice and slow. But it looks like my legs aren't even shaved on certain parts of my calf (you can see the pores where the hair was) mixed with random red ones. If i put lotion on them they get worse (omg if it has alcohol in it forget its burn city!).
On the plus side, ever since i started exfolating my entire body the "pimples" went away, even on my shoulders , chest and back to the point my hubby noticed and complimented. As a OCD picker it was nice to hear! But my legs.... i just can't get it right! If i put self tanner on them its like those weird pores suck the stuff up and i have little dots in those spots.

*SIGH* You ladies are saints for everything though. Keep them coming oh wise ones!

Try using the aid gel for the bikini area on the legs. Mabe after sun too, because of the aloe. You could also switch shaving directions. Then, mabe instead of shaving with soap or shaving cream use a cheap bottle of hair conditioner to shave with.
A dancer I worked with a long time ago used to make herself get goosebumps before she shaved, because the goosebumps push the hairs the full way up so if there is any new growth under the skin, she would get it. It sounds weird, but shave then get goose bumps and there will be stubble. If your hairs aren't all the way through and your just ripping at them with the raisor I can see why you would still see the stubble, and red spots.
Also, put olive oil on skin after shaving and let it soak into the skin for a few minutes before a shower, and it will help with irritation.
If your having just the white bumps that some peoople get on their arms and legs, normally the upper parts, its a skin condition. Try a cream with retinol and the prob will clear itself up.

i think dry skin brushing might help. i've been doing it lately, for kind of the same reason. i'm not sure if its ingrown hair on my legs or what but my skin tone is really uneven. i've even tried tanning which helped but im still not happy with it. i first started dry skin brushing to help the rough area where butt meets thigh. i started about 3 weeks ago and just did that area. i think the skin tone has evened out a little (which was my main reason for doing it) but i've noticed the area looks and feels a lot nicer. it looks toned. so, now im doing this all over my body. it hurts a little till you get used to it but knowing it'll make my skin amazing, i can take it. dry skin brushing is supposed to increase circulation, get rid of dead skin cells (which may be the reason for sort of inflamed clogged pores on the legs) and basically speed up the cell renewal process. i'm tempted to believe it will work just because instead of clogging the skin pores with oil all the time (which i think in combination with skin brushing is amazing) this technique actually stimulates the area and cleans the skin. make sure you do it on dry skin though. if your interested read up on it: dry skin brushing

Never heard of it! But i'm down for trying new things.

A lil update. I got a self tanner that has aloe and vitimin C in it and its really helped my legs. The breakouts stopped and my skin looks & feels smoother. I also started rinsing my legs in ice cold water before i get out and that made my pores look better (not perfect but whatever).
I'll give the brushing a shot. Sounds worth it.

tried Apple Cider Vinegar on my legs after i shaved and it stung so bad but legs look soo much better. i think this produces more immediate results, and the dry skin brushing thing is long term accumulated results.

I have very fair skin... and I used to get that sort of 'reddish, you can see my pores' appearance.
I stopped getting that after I started exfoliating and started bathing/showering in really hot water for at least 15 minutes before shaving anything. /shrug.
But it might just be me.

Have you tried other forms of hair removal? Waxing or nair or something...? You'd probably have to be careful with nair because of the chemicals. Razors irritate my skin also, so I use veet wherever I can. As far as the 'large pores', do you have thick hair? I have thick hair on my lower legs and it looks very pore-ish.

My mom dry brushes her whole body before bed with those soft bristle shower brushes it made her skin soft and exfoliated it removed toxins from her body and skin since it increased blood flow and she even lost weight (which is hard for her having diabetes and other thyroid problems)

I'm thinking of trying a Nair or Veet but i don't like letting the leg hair grow just to do it. (Isn't that how you do it? I forget) I shave literally everything every day (Like an OCD). So is that something you can do every day or often?

The break outs stopped since i used that self tanner w/ aloe and vitamin C but its absorbing into my pores and just emphasizing the "dots" of pores. Not totally noticeable unless you look close or in certain lights but to my perfectionist self its annoying.
Yes, i do have thick hair. I also am a natural blonde so my thigh hair is like invisible but my lower legs are like dark haired. And the pores are only visible on the out part of my leg (on the ankle side) not the other.

I'm so glad i'm not the only one w/ this problem.

Apple cider vinegar fixes almost everything. I love the stuff! It even removed a couple of very stubborn warts my step-daughter had on her hand. You smell like a salad, but I highly recommend it for a home remedy!

I'm a nursing student. It's probably a minor staph infection. Go to your MD and he will prescribe you an antibiotic like Bactrim. May women get something like this at some point. In order to avoid it in the future make sure to clean/change your razor often. Staph thrives in warm moist places (like your shower!)

I could be wrong but you might as well go get it checked out Hope that helps.

When it's inflamed, I'd use Neosporin. The rest of the time, you might want to consider getting something like a 40% glycolic acid. I use that on my lower legs once every couple of weeks and it's pretty much eliminated all my irritation problems. And to speed up healing, try Emu Oil. That stuff's amazing.
