Just curious, because I got hooked on Afrin a few weeks ago due to allergies. I'm trying to break the addiction right now and it's honestly been one of the most frustrating things I've ever had to deal with! I try to only take it at night-but since it becomes less effective with overuse, a lot of the time I end up waking up in the middle of the night anyway, unable to breathe. And then, I have to either take more of it, or spend the rest of the morning tossing and turning. Oh and I've also learned that breathing through my mouth in my sleep makes me have nightmares. Plus since I don't take it during the day I can't breathe properly and have to blow my nose constantly, which is rather embarrassing. It is sooooo shitty!
I tried watering it down with saline spray...it worked for a couple days but then it started getting worse. I did some research and found out that saline sprays contain a preservative which aggravates swollen sinuses. Erg. I finally ended up ordering a Rhinostat kit last night. It seems promising but it will still take about a month to fully wean myself using their system.
On the plus side, last night I bought a nasal douche (lol) and it's amazing!I'm gonna use it all the time from now on because I already had sinus problems from urban pollution and secondhand smoke.
Anyone else ever have this problem? How did you break the addiction?
