    Default My Diet Thread

Mmmmkay, I am such a bad eater and I definitely have some extra poundzzz that I'd love to shed. I've gotten myself on good diets before but my downfall has always been disorganization. If I don't have every meal planned out and have my place fully stocked with healthy foods I run into dietary chaos, if I end up running out for something last minute or going to a grocery store hungry it's over. The best thing for me is to eat the same things over and over again, it's the only way I can stay organized. So I have decided that from now on I am to to keep myself fully stocked with and only eat the following items:

1)Green Fix(I get this by the gallon at the local farmer's market, it's very fresh, completely organic dark leafy greens like spinach, kale, collard greens...etc blended together right there on the spot, one of the healthiest things you could ever put in your body!).

2)Salmon- it's the only healthy thing I can cook, I also believe they sell very clean, fresh salmon at the farmer's market.

3)Protein Shakes; Costco has some pretty decent ones that I like but I think I'm just going to invest in the Jay Rob powders and mix them into my Green Fix.

    4)Water.

    5)Fresh fruit.

6)Eggs, but only healthy clean ones from the farmers market that actually come from local farms.

I'm going to post what I eat every day starting tomorrow, I think if I have to account for everything I put in my mouth by writing it down it may help motivate me.

good diet is a good place to start, but TRUST me... get 15-20 min of cardio in there daily (its so hard at first, but let a routine start) and you will lose so much so fast!!! you can do 5 lbs in 4-5 weeks easy, and by then your metabolism will be changing.

    ~good luck

Where are your carbs??? You should have some carbs in there, it will make you less likely to crash. Whole wheat cous-cous or brown rice, just half a cup a day, will help you feel fuller longer and also provide you with much needed fiber!

a little extra virgin olive oil also goes a long way in maintaining fullness, and it's great for your skin!

cottage cheese and low fat or fat free yogurt is also the shizz.

    good luck!

I am not a carb fanatic, besides I get them in my healthy greens as well as fiber. I do not feel that I need grains. I am also distrustful of the EVOO craze although I do use a bit on my salmon to keep it from sticking to the foil. There are great skin benefits everything I included in my diet too. I'm not sure what the cheese and yogurt is supposed to do lol, and I'm also not a dairy advocate. I'll use raw milk now and then or butter to cook with but that's it.

You don't have to be overweight to be unhealthy! Not saying you are unhealthy just pointing out that a lot of people seem to think that if you're not fat then you are in perfect health. Thank you for the suggestions.

Correct, I'm pretty sure chocolate is not essential to survive, even if it's 'raw.'

With the Salmon and eggs, you might not need the protein powders. I too, try to not eat anything processed. Even my greens I prefer to chew!! Sometimes it is fine to give your system a rest and blend your greens tho. Look into wild rice, which is actually a grass, not a rice. It is super nutritious! Also, try to eat some veggies of different colors for the nutrients- whatever looks good at the market.

Dude, you drink raw milk too?? AWESOME! I'm really big into the dietary recommendations of The Weston A. Price Foundation. I eat very little to no processed foods and avoid all refined carbs. Everything I eat is full fat, which some aren't comfortable with, but after a lot of research I feel it's the best for me and my family.

I eat low carb for the most part and try not to eat a ton of grains. I find eating a lot of grains causes me to have cravings for more sweet/high carb foods. Fat and protein like eggs and such sustains my energy and fullness.

Meal planning can be your best friend. If you take some time plan once a week for the following week it can make a ton of difference in your eating habits as far as eating crap at the last minute. I plan our dinners once a week 'cause I pretty much eat the same thing for breakfast everyday (smoothie) and have leftovers for lunch, but planning all three meals can be even more helpful.

Good luck, you're definitely on the right track!! I'll follow along your diet journey, because food is one of my favorite hobbies, LOL.

Here's a great little recipe I stole from another dancer:

    1 lb. ground turkey breast
1 bag of frozen mixed vegetables (I use half the bag)
    1 can stewed tomatoes
    1 leek, sliced
    crushed red pepper to taste

Brown turkey, combine all ingredients, simmer 15 minutes. Yummy!

I also add spinach, kale, and another new one I love, Swiss or Rainbow Chard.

Hey good luck and you are right about the grains, our bodies really don't need grains to function and you will probably do well on a lower carb diet. Healthy fats are super necessary too, the more the better! Especially if you're going low carb, they will help soften the "withdrawals" that some people have and keep you satisfied. Make sure you're getting them from plant sources as well like nuts and oils. I'm a huge fan of fish oil supplements. I love salmon as well, so I figured I could share a yummy recipe I make with it that's super filling. I put about a tablespoon of coconut oil in a skillet and cook the salmon in it on medium-high heat (about 6 min on each side so it gets crispy, so less time if you like it tender). Then I season it with cumin, a pinch of ginger, salt and pepper. It's super easy and simple and reeeeally good. And then I serve some veggies with it. I hope this didn't come off preachy, that's not what I was going for. I'm just really fired up about health!
Anyway I've packed on quite a bit of cushion over the winter too so I'm starting on a fat loss regimen too. Go you!

The reason I eat my greens blended is because I HATE them and drinking them i the easiest thing for me. :/ About the salmon and eggs, I'm sure I'll still be wanting my protein powder to boost up my protein count for the day, I try to get at least 155 grams of protein a day and I'm kinda sick of eggs so I don't think I'll be having them too often.

All that aside I've done really bad today....I had to wake up early today to go to a doctor's appointment so of course I set my alarm to a time that would allow me the most sleep....so I ate nothing. And it's when I'm hungry that I get intense and evil cravings.... I was then going to let myself have sushi(with white rice...no bueno) but things went crazy, I ran into a shit load of drama, it got ugly. I was wandering around aimlessly for a long time and finally forced myself into the nearest grub stop for food because I was feeling lightheaded, I had 'fresh-squeezed' orange juice and a ham and turkey sandwich(cold cuts...baaaaad!) on wheat bread(no bueno :/). Oh, and a little bacon. I have had nothing since...I don't feel like eating.

Tomorrow is another day....but isn't that what bad eaters always say?!

MMMMMMM Watermelon!!!!! California has some of the best farmer's markets!
It's almost watermelon time here, I can't wait! Fresh watermelon juice is a special treat. You can also blend the watermelon in a blender and drink like a slushee...I have heard lime is good with it too, although I have yet to try it.

Mangoes are heaven too! Maybe a mango- strawberry green smoothie would be nice?

Lots of chemical additives and carbohydrate additives. I'm sure somewhere in the world it's possible to find some good ones but they're probably not going to be behind the deli glass at your regular supermarket.

    On carb additives:

Avoid processed meats with fillers. Fillers are carbohydrate additives that are used to hold the meat together and reduce production costs. Common fillers include cereal flours and starches derived from rice, bread, corn, and potato.

Totally agree. All of the basics: fats, starches/carbs, protein, etc. all needs to be in there. Balance is the key.

Ah yes processed meats are one of those foods that suppliers sneak chemicals in. They like to add MSG (which actually makes you hungry soon after eating, among other terrible things) and all kinds of junk. If your meat has ingredients other than the animal... run.
Anyway maybe next time you go out you could pack some fruit or nuts along so you can avoid those desperate food choices. Better luck tomorrow!

it's really shocking when you start to read the ingredients on the labels at grocery stores. being gluten free has really forced me to eat fresh food and avoid anything that's been processed. salmon is great for natural fats, you can also add some nuts...i'm not a huge fan of nuts but i kind of force myself to eat them for natural fats. basically eating gluten free has kept my weight very consistent without working out. but it's not for dieting...there are days i wish i could just go to a restaurant without looking up the menu before going in or being worried that something's been cross contaminated. okay i'll end my rant but yeah.
