    Default what do you eat at work to keep energy up?

    Lately, I've been eating an energy bar between shifts to keep myself from getting too hungry at work, but today I looked at the sugar and HOLD CRAP! 21 grams of sugar!? I need something a little healthier than that.
    The thing is I usually am dancing (I work at a peepshow) for several hours with a ten minute break here and there. So I need something quick and light so I can get back on stage without feeling too full or heavy.

    So what are you snacking on?

    I second ripe bananas (spotty), or super- sweet crisp apples. Juicy red grapes and oranges are also nice. Dried fruit is excellent and portable...like dates, raisins, or apricots.

    Am I the only one that doesn't get decent energy from fruit? I feel satisfied for about 10 minutes, but then get so hungry again I feel like I have a gaping bottomless pit in my stomach! The glycemic index isn't that high for fruits....I think that's the problem.

    ^^^ I don't either, and since I'm vegetarian nuts and seeds are usually my best solution at work. If I want to bring "dinner" I bring canned veggies like green beans or peas. Athena can attest to that... she's seen me nibbling on them in the dressing room before.

    Now I feel like a big muncher lol! I take a cheese sammich to work with me, I love them and I try to work 8 hours so I feel like I need an actual meal midway. Otherwise, if I get hungry the only option I have is fries or something from the clubs kitchen. And I always have a bottle of water.

    Recently I've noticed I'll work my whole shift and then eat my sandwich in the car on the way home though... not sure what that's about.

    MMM I second LaraBars those things are the shit.. I love the Peanut Butter ones! They are so pure. No crazy ingredients list!

    I need PROTEIN when Im working. Heres my list. I actually have a lunch box I bring to work each night People make fun of me for it but I need my healthy foods!!! That vending machine and the bar food are of the DEVIL.

    I hard boil eggs on my day off and de-shell them, put them in the fridge in sandwich bags with salt and pepper and take a bag (2 or 3 eggs) per night at work.
    I bring lots of fruit.
    Some type of protein bar. (And I keep a stash of larabar/pure protein bars in my locker for emergencies lol)
    Usually some form of chicken or fake meat, and veggies for my big meal.
    I also bring a water bottle with protein powder mixed with water to drink on all night.

    Nuts are great, PB+J's are easy and yummy...

    If I don't bring foods, I will eat CRAP. So this is what I do to keep myself on track. You have to plan ahead. The night before my week starts I cook foods, cut fruits, ect, and put into little tupperwares enough for the 5 nights of work ahead.
    I take a short break every few hours and eat and I've noticed a nice change in my body since I've been being very strict with this. My body has leaned up a lot and I will never go back to eating just a protein bar during my 8 hour shift- I was cranky and tired and feel much better pverall now.

    Yay! PBJs! My fav.

    I mixed some pumpkin seeds and raisins for work but after a few hours my blood sugar dropped, so now I think I'm gonna have to work some sugary stuff back in. Or maybe just more fruit. I think homemade trail mix is going to be my new snack.

    Larabars are so healthy but I'm done with all "bars" for now. But I do love how'd they're just dates and nuts. I had a coconut one once that was amazing.
