^^^ So far it's been working. The first few days I gained a little weight on it and freaked out. I stuck with it though. I made far too much marinara sauce the first day though, so the only meal I've really been able to try is the spaghetti. I'm still eating on that sauce days later! LOL I have since lost a few pounds though.

Only doing it 2-3x a week makes things so much easier. It will allow me to try out raw recipes without feeling restricted all week. So it seems more fun.

I wanted to update you girls. I've been doing pretty good on the raw diet. The days that I eat non-raw foods (still healthy) I maintain my weight, unless I'm on a low carb/low fat day - in which case I still lose weight.

Yesterday though was bad... really bad. I was driving up to Denver with a friend who wanted to stop at McDonalds, which was fine because it wasn't a raw day - and I was okay breaking the diet for a day. I ordered a big mac without the meat (I'm vegetarian)... omg - I felt sick ALL DAY! Literally I didn't feel okay until this morning. That will teach me a lesson! LOL

I did break out the dehydrator earlier this week and made zucchini chips which I at with salsa one day and hummus another day. I also dried out some apples - which were fantastic! I'm not a fan of the dried apples in the stores... but these were MUCH better.

I am considering some form of vegetarianism. I may not be able to afford the raw diet right away, but I'll probably start out with cutting out red meat and then eventually white meat and egg yolks as well. I'd like to keep seafood, because I really love it!

This thread makes me want some fresh fruit! Do you guys ever find it hard raw dieting when certain fruits and veggies are out of season?

I've been thinking about that too. It's so easy in the summer when so much is available. My guess is that during the winter a person would switch to more forms of squash and such that are seasonal at that time. Maybe this year I'll make raw pumpkin ravioli!

I jumped on this bandwagon awhile ago. Still trying to adhere to it.

For me, personally, straight up raw was too intense for me (and also financially dumb, as I live in a winter-tastic state, and produce is relatively expensive here). I ended up cutting out meat (except fish) and gluten entirely from my diet. I also eat a ton more raw veges/fruits.

Tonight I had (mostly) raw tomato soup. Soooo good in summer months:
Ingredients: tomatoes, basil, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic (all raw) and vegetable broth. Throw them all into a food processor and blend until very smooth. Adjust according to tastes. Bam! Super good.

I can't do tomato soup. I tried to eat some the other day. I ate it once when I had stomach flu and that's all I think about when I try to eat it.

YES. This is the most difficult part for me. Lemons are 69 cents right now. For a frickin lemon! I make damn good money, but I can't justify spending it all on fresh produce.

Some of my favorite stuff right now: Raw honey. Honey that has never been filtered, processed, or heated. It can be difficult to find...and some places claim their honey is raw when it actually isn't. So good though!

Also, I've really been loving raw goat cheese these days. Slightly different taste, but quite good.

I'm not a vegan raw foodist. I'm still trying to adjust my diet to make it right for me. I'd love to make this a lifestyle choice and not just something I did when I was 21.

I used to try to make all of these crazy raw recipes, but I recently discovered that I enjoy simple dishes much more. I'd rather eat a green pepper than make something crazy with it. Shrugs.

The cost of food is ridiculous. Especially 'fresh' or 'healthy' foods. This is why obesity is prevalent in poverty stricken areas.

^ Yes. It's really incredible. I could buy like 50 packets of Ramen for the price of a fuckin honeydew melon.

It's really sad. I want to lose weight, about 5 pounds, no more and tone up. But I have no access to health foods or a gym. I have to continue eating crap and DIY my workouts and pray it works. There's a reason kids are obese! Their parents can't afford 'real' food.

I'm not sure about where you all live but you might want to check places like Sunflower Market, a food co-op, farmers market, or even the Asian market to cut down costs.

Charlie, good for you for giving it a try! Goat cheese, goat milk, goat ice cream are all yummy!

On the honey deal, I recently found out that many honey producers clip the queen's wings to keep her at the current location, rather than making room for a new queen and splitting the hive like things would occur in regular nature. Anyhow, it seems cruel. Splenda doesn't bother me, but honestly I don't use much sweetner so I've been looking at alternatives. I've been reading tons about maple syrup, which I normally steer clear of... but I think I may switch over to that to sweeten things like tea with.

Also, a few nights ago I had some extra firm tofu with liquid hickory smoke, about two drops of imitation pineapple flavoring, and veggies (different peppers and onions)... it was wonderful!

This sounds like an interesting idea, I think I might also try it for 2-3/wk. I know I wouldn't be able to do it everyday.

^^^ Yes, the "everyday" thing gets me too. There's some things I just can't give up on a permanent basis.

Kylea--try Agave nectar!! Relatively cheap with its own unique flavor. I love it!

And here, co-ops are more expensive...they're all organic. I can't justify spending $6 on a tiny watermelon. That kind of stuff.

I still eat very healthily, but not organic. And not completely raw.

I was just going to recommend agave! It's amazing and so sweet you don't need much to sweeten things.

And yes co-ops are amazing because I've noticed the produce at my co-op is much cheaper than the Safeway or Top Foods.

Another option if you have the climate (well I'm in WA and I'm doing it) is making a garden. I just got a patch and I'm growing tomatoes, carrots, strawberries, beets, pumpkins, and a couple different squashes. It's super cheap too! I just checked it today and the strawberries are doing really well.

^^^ Yes, growing is a great option if you have a green thumb. Also, look on places like Craigslist. There's always people who grow too much and try to give it away. I've never seen problems with people poisoning that stuff - so I would say that's relatively safe.

I did look at the agave honey, but the maple syrup has so many health benefits that its hard to pass up. I could use them both though.

I couldn't do raw myself, but we did just sort of go through a major diet overhaul in my household. I read the post where you mentioned faux meats, and as someone who loves the shit out of Morningstar Farms Riblets- I've given up ALL faux meats. They really are still full of processed crap, even though I will admit they are a great transitional food.

We're eating about 95% Asian at this point, which is something I never envisioned ( hubs spent around half a year in Asia for work and prefers Asian food ) though it has led to a huge increase in our fresh fruit and vegetable consumption. I don't think I've had potatoes in a month, or anything else really carb-y. I was never a proponent of the whole low carb thing ( especially since I've never been a big bread person anyway ) but now that I've sort of done it unconsciously, I realise it is helping- also, we cook at home a LOT now.

I figure anything that ups your fruit and vegetable intake is awesome. Have you seen this website? : . They have tons of recipes on there. Cooking at home is super fun too. I love trying new recipes.

I guess what I'm getting at with my long rambly post is GOOD LUCK!

I use agave nectar on everything, and to sweeten stuff too. I made raw milk ice cream sweetened with agave and it came out fantastic!

Also, sounds like you are doing incredibly well. This is totally inspiring! Maybe I will try it as well... Good luck!
