I grew up in bumfuck, mississippi where if i went to some parts of town, i would have issues, and i would be followed in stores and i would be called "n*gg#@" like it was my gov't name. it was thrust in my face, constantly. how could i not see it? perhaps you are fortunate enough to be able to ignore someone's color. I don't feel that I am able to forget my own, or see it in other people. it doesn't affect the way that i treat people, it is more like recognizing, "oh, this person is/looks like/ x " and go on
from your post, i don't think that "white bitch" was racist. an insult? hell yeah, but not necessarily racist. reading your post, i thought that she was calling you a "bitch" and "white bitch" to distinguish you from other "bitches" that were there. again, that's what i got from your post. i wasn't there, so idk. the N word and "white bitch" will NEVER be on the same level.
for your question of "some people to think that it's ok to be racist?" i have no clue. combo of upbringing and their environment.
and MLK wasn't just for african americans, he was for EVERYONE having equal rights, black, white, hispanic, etc., therefore his words go unheeded by more than just african americans.
