I still don't do much pole work. Not because I can't, just because I don't. If you can be sexy and sensual (if you belly dance you already know you can) you'll be fine.
Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

thats helpful to know cause im not sure i could hang upside down on a pole eagle spread lol im not that cool yet.

^ You'll never please everyone all the time. Some guys go for the crazy pole work. I can tell you it's not required.

I've never worked at a club where pole dancing was required, but most clubs like a few girls who can work the poles. I'd say my skills on pole are medium. I can do some tricks, but not many of the ones like hanging upside down, and I did it for years. Different clubs require different dancing. Some strictly like gyrating, while others like dancers who can actually dance. Personally, I have a jazz/ballet/tap background so I incorporated that into my routines.

keep in mind, dancing on the pole or clinging to it a lot makes it hard for the guys to tip you...
don't let it be known amongst bellydancers that you are now stripping..they will try to eat you up. that said, bellydance is a wonderful way to groove around the stage..I learned all of my isolations, undulations, and arm/hand movements from over a decade of bellydance training. I WON'T do an authentic 5 part arabic routine at a strip club because it does feel out of place. But if you incorporate some of the basic dance moves it's really helpful
and..I'll probably get cyber beat up for saying so but more and more I'm seeing dancers at clubs that don't really have much dance talent at all..I guess there's a skill to just getting in doggy style and booty popping ..I think I was born in the wrong era and love to see long, drawn out strip TEASE routines with themes and full costuming. Love burlesque. What I see, even though I am new, in my area , is that dancing is secondary to hustling skills and that a stripper job is largely hustling for private shows. I suppose I had some fairy tale image of stripping that I could wear killer outfits and strip to bitchen music and the tips were enough to make good money..I was disappointed to find out that the money , at least in my area as I can't speak for everyone, is private shows. And those get old. I'm more a performer than a solicitor. An attention whore so to speak..

..and based on extensive reading of other posts from other dancers, I'm anticipating that stripping will become less and less of an art form of dance and sensuality and more about extras..which is disappointing because I really love to watch talented dancers take off their clothes in an artistic way.
I'd been wondering this exact same thing. One thing that helped me was going on youtube and looking at some people's routines. It helps you get an idea of some basics with and without using the pole

The girls here have pretty much summed it up. In most cases though if you have the body style they are looking for they are just putting you on stage to see if you are brave enough to take off your clothes.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Sadly, this seems to be the way it's going. I'm just glad I got out when I did. This does reminds me of the conversation I had with the one I love (I met him at a club). He said to me he never thought my dancing was exotic dancing, but rather tap/ballet/hip hop/jazz dancing. That I didn't dance like the other girls. I found this interesting (though I'd agree). It was almost like he was saying that I wasn't a "real" exotic dancer, and that is fine because he'd never date a real one. Strange comment.
