How do I get rid of it? I don't know where it came from, I slept on an air mattress a couple nights, but that's all I can think of.... it's so bad I can't work tonight![]()
Even though it seems counter-intuitive, a lot of lower back pain (especially from sleeping) comes from overly tight hip flexors. Look up yoga hip flexor stretches (on Youtube for example) and try opening up those flexors. I had chronic lower back pain despite having a really strong core, and was finally able to resolve the issue with 5-10 minute hip flexor stretches. Hope it helps.....
Are you about to get your period?
There's some pain relief gel called biofreeze that works great. The only problem is that you have to get it from a massage therapist or chiropractor. There is a generic version called mineral ice that works almost exactly the same, and you can get it at cvs.
Feel better. Back pain sux.

Uh-oh. I'm hoping nothings been pinched or misplaced.
Stretch it out. Also, I find ice numbs the pain well.
I'm a victim of chronic low back pain, so I just pop a couple Percs usually. I know you're into a more healthy and natural way of living, but I don't have a lot of organic advice. Sorry babe. I hope you feel better soon!
The thing is, I know NOTHING about back problems, I've never had them and neither has anyone in my family. I was thinking I herniated a disc, but apparently I would be in excruciating hunched over pain if that had happened, so I guess I just strained some muscles. Going to try the stretches and hot water!

I have chronic back problems from a herniated disc that 'popped' in 1991. You don't need the history or gory details, but yes, if you had one you would be in severe pain...or agony.
Sure signs of a herniated disc are lower back pains, a constant sore 'nervy' pain down the middle of the back of your leg, pins and needles in your thigh, calf or toes...and a severe stabbing pain in the lower back when you lift things, walk, or put any weight on your foot.
My hunch is that you've pulled the two big muscles that form the 'corset' at the bottom of your back. Whatever it is, you need to take it easy as it could get worse. By that I mean...take it easy until the pain is totally gone. Lifting weights is a definite 'no no'...what on earth was your trainer thinking of?!
Meantime, hot baths are good, so is massage, and sleeping on a firm mattress, but not a rock hard one. Try to sleep in the foetal position on your opposite side too, it relaxes the affected muscles, you can always put a pillow under the 'small' of your back if you sleep on your back. Sleeping on your tummy is the best if you can do it. Also, when you get up in the morning, roll up off your side into a sitting position before you get out of bed, but do it carefully, to avoid straining the already sore area.

I'm a licensed massage therapist and help people all the time with low back pain. Go see a good therapist who can help you with your back pain. You don't necessarily have to tell them you strip, but say you dance here and there and lately your low back has been bugging you. Stretching and hot water are good for the back, but be careful how you sleep. If you have a soft mattress sleep in your side more often, if you have a harder mattress it's ok to sleep on your back.
You can try Biofreeze, Icy Hot, or Tiger Balm to put on your low back to help the pain temporarily. Also a heat pad works, but don't use it too long, and put some ice on the back afterwards for 5 minutes.
You could have slept funny, that causes it from time to time. Hope that helped!!
Man oh man, what a trip it's been.

Also your spine can be slightly out of alignment and then the muscles will tense around the site which may make you think it is just muscular went it is actually a joint issue. My husband kept pulling out his back every time he worked out and it was really fucking up his workouts. He thought it was muscular but then and osteopath cracked his back and he hasnt had a problem since.
I agree with the post about opening up the hip flexors..
it is amazing how the back is linked to the hips and legs
I have a very tight lower back.. and would stretch and stretch but it always seemed to come back
here is an AMAZING way to loosen the lower (and upper back) .. it is like a "self" deep tissue massage
On your couch (unless the "arms" are super squishy)
Sit sideways.. with your back against the Arm of the couch and your butt pushed against the side.. bend knees
You should feel the hardness of the couch arm against your middle back
Lift your arms and bend overhead holding elbows (this lifts your waist)
Push your back into the the hardness of the arm of the couch and start leaning back and twisting, slowly...
really grind your back (muscles) into the couch arm
get a good twist in there
Adjust yourself (lower or raise up) to work another portion of your back
I did this again yesterday afternoon and it got me so relaxed I fell into a deep 2 hour sleep right there on the couch..
also, make sure you breathe deeply as you stretch and twist

I do light stretching and a heating pad as some people have suggested above. My pain always goes away in a few days if I really truly rest. it may be different for you, but I find that if I don't rest for a few days even after the pain goes away, they come back worse - so try to wait a day or two after the pain goes away to start flippin' upside-down on that pole. ;-) Feel better!
Chiropractor did wonders for me after I got into my car wreck 75mph its probably a shifted disk easily fixable or a pinched nerve also fixable take an anti inflammatory to help it may still hurt but it reduces swelling of the area I had a pinched nerve once that temporarily paralyzed me from the neck down for several hours.
