Thumbs down So mad I could kill someone.

So we moved to NOLA, and everything's been great. We work at the same club, but my husband pretty much ignores me, shows me no favouritism whatsoever.

Last night while I am cashing out, the night manager comes up to me and says "..Does your husband work here?" I looked at him, shrugged and said "I'm not going to confirm or deny that" because I'm not going to fess up, but I'm also not going to lie to my manager's face.

Night manager said he could fire my husband, but instead, he said husband and I can just work conflicting shifts.

Herein lies the problem: he's getting swapped to mid shift, which is from between 2-5pm to 12-2am. EPIC FAIL. So now unless he gets a transfer to the sister club, I have to switch clubs.

Also, if I find out who snitched us out I'm going to kill them. What does it matter anyway?? I spoke to the former GM of one of the more popular clubs here, he was the GM while his wife was a stripper!! WTF IS THE BIG DEAL?

AUGH if it isn't one thing it's a-fuckin'-nother.

Ugh, yeah, I'd be mad. You were right not to answer that though. You might consider taking this to the local labor board.

Not trying to pee in your cheerio's but its a pretty accepted business practice to not have a relative\spouse supervise another relative\ spouse. Even if he shows you no favoritetism, just the "appearance" of favoriteism is enough for another employee to have grounds to file a suit. Most every business will not allow it.

    Congrats on the wedding.

I know some that do allow it... although admittedly they are typically in the religious sector.

You know, it could be a good thing in one light. If any of the girls you worked with found out, they could scream 'favoritism' (even if there was none) and stir up a lot of drama. It's shitty but true, some girls love to kick up a stink even when theres nothing going on.

I'll agree that this is 'common procedure' for 'straight' businesses too. My husband would not be allowed to work with any relative or live in girlfriend, and definetely no spouses! He is not in the religous sector at all but those are the rules. I could NOT work at his store even if I worked a different shift! Med's situation is a bit different, but I do see why SC's have these rules. My club does NOT abide by it though. As unfortunate as it is, the truth would have come out eventually anyway.

I would be just as pissed. That is so stupid. You both do your own work...and don't bother each other so I don't see the big deal. but some clubs are like that unfortunately. :/

Young women competing for money and attention; fueled on alcohol, caffeine, and possibly drugs (prescribed or recreational) acting catty and divisive?

    Only in a parallel universe.

Ok I can't say that with a straight face.

I feel for you Med, truly, but it is what it is. Almost any place I know operates under those rules. I only say it though so that in the knowing of it you don't feel picked on and can, hopefully, let it go and feel better.

The best thing to do so you can both have the shifts you want is to put up with it until one of you finds another club. With any luck it will be an improvement $$$-wise. I'll keep a good thought that it works out well for both of you.

BTW, while we are on the subject, is it needed to point out the obvious: That it is just possible that if you are willing to judge the worth of someone simply by what you read on a website about them it might say a whole hell of a lot more about you than it says about the person you are judging?

Well, there's been recent improvement... I'll still be working at the club, but not as a dancer any longer! I'm going to talk to my manager about his suggestion today- I like where I am and don't want to dance anywhere else, and I'd like to stay on staff at the club now.

    Cross your fingers for me.

Fingers and toes crossed [hard to walk like this though].

Hope it works out for you.

Good luck med., look forward to hearing about the new adventure.

I've known tons of couples that have worked the same shifts at clubs. Someone was just full of hater and threw it in the other manager's face so they felt the need to act.

^^ That's what I'm thinking. We don't even arrive together or leave together, so someone had to be all butt hurt about something.

I hope it all works out for you...you two seem to be the poster children for a healthy, professional relationship where both parties work together.

^^ He is just a big believer in home is home, work is work. I usually don't even pay attention to the other dancers, never mind the managers, floormen etc. I just do my own thing.

The solution I'm keeping my fingers crossed for is the manager offered me a daytime bartender position. All the logistics aren't worked out yet but it sounds great and I think it will be good for me. Puts me mainly opposite of my husband but hey- I've been trying to hang up the damn shoes for months, just seems like every time I get there SOMETHING happens that I have to go back.

Sucks because we're totally inseparable ( then again who isn't if they've been married five weeks? ) but whatevs. It sounds like a good deal to me.

Seriously, I think this is making the best out of a crap situation. I've seen you two at work, and it's like you've never met. Someone was just butthurt and full of haterade.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND... Your personality will make you the best bartender EVAR. Knowing you, you'll probably make more as a bartender just by being awesome!

    Good luck sweetie.
