Default Shellac nail polish! No chips 14 days

Anyone else done this? I'm at the salon now!
It's a polish ( not fake nail ) that doesn't damage yours + dries hard in minutes!
They put it on and then your hands go under a lamp. I'm WAY excited . I'm active and have to redo manicures every day I dance or want good nails!
I hope it's true to the claim!

I read about this on yahoo. While I think creative nail is a great company, I think shellac costs way too much.

Awesome! I totally want to do this. I think there is only one shop in Phx tho. I'm sure the price is sky high if they are the only ones...
How much did you pay for the mani/pedi?

Never heard of this! Normally I'll have them put a thin layer of acrylic or gel over my nail to keep the polish from peeling and to keep my nails hard, but I know this is damaging to my nails. How much did you pay for this and what does it feel like on your nails?

Before vinyl LP's came along, 'Shellac' is the stuff that they mixed with acetate, to make the old 78 rpm records hard.....so it 'effin' well should work! It's also used as an industrial strength wood finish and floor varnish.

It's actually produced by a tree climbing beetle, the female lac bug (Laccifer (Tachardia) lacca Kerr, Order: Hemiptera, Family: Coccidae)....you REALLY wanted to know that didn't you...NOT! (At least it's organic...not oil based!)

    Here's all about it:

"Shellac " IS the product name. Yes, $18 for the whole thing ( they didn't do a lot of pampering but who cares ) . It's not an overcoat, but the paint itself. So happy with it ! Still looks perfect now about 10 days later! There are VERY slight little imperfections on the tips and the nails have a little sliver of growth on the bottom, but I don't suspect I'll have to redo for another 4-5 days ( and you could probably stretch the mani even further ... but I don't like to see the growth at the bottom without color + I want a different color soon) .

Here is the locator to find a salon ......
    http://www.cnd.com/Locate/Shellac-Find-A-Salon.aspx
The locator isn't totally reliable ( one place didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I called ... but maybe it was just them ) .

Here is a direct link to more info about the product ......
    http://www.cnd.com/Products/Color/shellacinfo.aspx

I imagine doing these could be a great business for dancers looking for other streams of income .... you could probably book 2-3 appts at clubs in one sitting or more at bigger clubs. Since the product dries completely in MINUTES ... you don't have to be careful with them like other manicures. There are four coats ... 2 minutes under UV lamp for each hand per coat.

I used the locator and there aren't many salons in my area. Do you think it would be alright to order the nail polish online and just do that? Or do you need the lamps?

    You need the lamps.

I'm surprised more salons aren't on top the this ! I saw the ad as my usual place and they didn't have the product yet ( about three weeks ago ) , so I called around and no one knew what I was talking about . Salons who get this NOW could be BANKING with this stuff.

My place was PACKED. Every table was full and I only go there mid week ! I'm STILL HAPPY the results 13 days later! The tops are barely dinged and the regrowth at the bottoms isn't even so bad. I think some salons are scared to do this ( because they last ), but they would sell SO MANY MORE mani's if people knew they WOULD last at least two weeks. They DO last. If they last on my hands , they will last on anyones !

I'm going back in a couples days to get a new color and get them shortened down a bit.

Carmen, I love it too. I use a different brand, OPI Axxium Gel, but I've seen the Shellac, it's the same thing just a different brand. My nail lady said she doesn't advertise it because it's expensive and I guess in the long term not good for a salon because clients won't come as often! LOL.

It sounds like it's different than a gel though since it's the actual polish. Also removal is different - there is no soaking filing or drilling - and $18 isn't that expensive.

    Very excited to try this!!

Yeah, it's the exact same thing, except OPI brand, it's a gel nail polish, and there's no drilling, filing, etc. The only difference are the colors available.

I don't understand their reasoning. Women don't do pro mani's because they ( used to ) not LAST. If salons could guarantee them results lasting two weeks, more women would come. My place was PACKED when the mani area is usually empty.
    Anyway .... it's official .... shellac rocks.

JD - I tried to find info about the Shellac-esque polish avaliable from OPI on their website, but I'm not having much luck. Do you know where I could read more about it? I LOVE OPI products, they have the nicest colors.

So, a friend of mine ordered a Shellac system. You can buy it for home use!

Personally, i have decided against it. I just do not want to expose my hands to so much extra UV light. Websites try to talk it down, but when they say how much it equates to it still soulds like too much for me!
