    Search Diehard organic gardening

Well about 3 weeks ago, I was very ill. I posted a thread on this. Somebody defecated in my tomato plants and left condoms and syringes on my garden gnome. My tomato plants are thriving as a result of the...unexpected fertilizer. Anyone planting a garden this summer? If so how is it doing? Hopefully using more orthodox methods than mine. (I do not condone the use of human fecal matter in organic gardening

My garden is almost up and running, its a indoor garden cause we live in a apartment. I hope to keep it organic but then I have to watch my mate and his parents.. But we will see.

i am an agriculture major, but i cheat also, i buy my plants already sprouted from home depot, i typically dont even fertilizer tomato plants, coming form a wet climate region not sure where you live but it doesnt get hotter than 80 degrees where i live, but i am assuming that where you are at in the mainland it is well over 100 degrees during the summer, tomato plants require alot of watering and maybe sprinkler it with gaviota 10-20-20 fertilizer if you would, which can be found at any gardener store

LOL no its not irrational. Just to be safe I consulted a friend who works at the nursery where I shop. Apparently, human fecal matter is a perfectly safe (albeit distasteful) fertilizer.

Peeing on a plant and leaving condoms and syringes on it is totally 2 different things... i would be creeped out by that to be honest, i would probably just call the police, just to find out who did it... theres already dna to find out the person lol

They caught the guy already. I shoulda revived the thread, sorry about that ladies and gentlemen. I have high hopes for my cherry tomatoes that were not blessed by the additional bounty. The romas are the ones that are thriving.

^^^ actually, the municipal waste treatment plants in many cities wind up selling dried bricks of processed sewage / human poop ... which in turn gets added to commercial fertilizers and potting soils !!! They just don't advertise this little tidbit !!!

Technically speaking, animal poop of any kind ( including human ) is an excellent fertilizer provided that the possible parasites / bad bacteria it contains are completely killed off. Some animals ( like cows and chickens ) have very few parasites / bad bacteria ... thus all you have to do is let the stuff 'percolate' for a few months to have a usable manure fertilizer. Other animals ( including humans ) have far more parasites / bad bacteria to be dealt with.

South of the border, you use what fertilizers you can find LOL !

Ha. Oh dear. I'm sorry for the unsightly damage to your plants.

I myself have a large garden. My goal is to completely self sustain, though it's a far way off. Right now we have: limes, oranges, mangoes, avocados, loquats, tamarind, basil, rosemary, mint, stevia, tomatoes (romas and cherry), watermelon, corn, wheat (I use it to bake my own bread, though it's doing poorlyin S.Slorida... used to do great up north), carrots, lettuce (spinach and romaine), broccoli, eggplant, onions, and I'm sure there are a few other things I'm forgetting.

I don't have the greenest thumb (also I'm SO not used to the humidity/Southern climate) but I love gardening... I also have chickens who eat organic so we get fresh eggs. Let me tell you, I will NEVER eat a grocery store egg again!
