Thumbs up OPI Axxium Gel Nails

This is the "new thing" right now.... it's basically a thin layer of gel, comes in different colors, that's like a nail polish that does not chip for weeks. They paint it on in layers, and each layer must dry under a UV lamp. You walk out of the salon with dry nails when it's all done, no more smudges and waiting! I think someone else posted about Shellac, and I actually asked my nail lady about that one today, and she says every brand is coming out with their own version of this concept. I have been doing this for a couple months now, and I absolute LOVE it! But, you have to make sure you go to someone who knows what he/she is doing. Today, I had her put one layer of Moon Over Mumbai, followed by a layer of Bubble Bath, so I have a nude soft white-ish pink opaque color, like a cross between Essie's Ballet Slippers and OPI's Bubble Bath. It looks beautiful!

Have you had a nail break yet? If they break, how easy are they to repair?

Also, is it similar to conventional liquid gels where they sort of "burn" when you put your hands under the drier light?
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

No, I have not had one break yet. This is now the fourth time I've had these done (had to have them redone and fixed twice because she didn't know what she was doing) When they do start to wear off, a corner will begin to lift, and the whole thing will peel off like a really thick coat of nail polish, but it's imperative that you do NOT peel them! You have to go in and let them soak off. If you try to peel them off yourself, you may end up peeling some layers of your own nails off with it. I don't think these are anything like the other gel types of nails, it's something completely different and unique. I've had gel nails before, and this is different because there's not a tip to glue on first, it's basically identical to nail polish, except it does not come off. I never noticed any burning, and they absolutely do NOT drill your natural nail in any way. I have long, gorgeous natural nails that I would never subject to any drills, files, or damaging processes at all. They just clean your nail bed, then lightly buff (just as they would before applying nail polish) then paint on a base coat, two coats of color, and top coat, and you put your hands under a UV light in between coats.

This is ideal if you are trying to grow your natural nails out, and want something a little more thicker and durable than regular nail polish (which only lasts a couple of days on me!)

It sounds good. I just know that I tend to break my nails often, multiple times into the nail bed, so if there is not some way to apply tips before the gel then it wouldn't work for me.

Yes, and please please test this product before using it on all your nails. I had my nail beds burned very badly by this product by my nail tech instructor. It over four weeks just for the pain alone to go away.

Its an excellent product but it may not be for you. Please please test.

Does this type of thing come in the stores or do you have to get it in a salon? Also, does it come off with acetone like regular nail polish?

My nail beds began burning as she was curing the product. At first it just felt like slight warmth then they all became increasingly hot, like I held a blowdyer directly on my nails for an hour or something.

I would apply the product to just one nail if you feel any sense of heat, remove it immediately. I couldnt even cover the damage to my nail beds because it hurt to attempt to even apply nail polish. My nail beds were like a deep purple for several weeks.

It is a great product, I just encourage testing the product before use.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm sorry that happened, it sounds painful!

You have to get it in a salon. Yes, it comes right off after soaking your nails in acetone for about ten minutes.

They look very nice! I bet soon they will come out with a version that sells in stores. I wish they would because between my son and work, I hardly have time to get my nails done!

They look great ! I'm the one who posted about shellac .... which I still love ..... but the 2nd time around they only lasted 9 days when my first shellac mani lasted two weeks . I do beat the shit out my hands, so it's probably more my fault than the salon though.
I wonder if anyone near me is doing the OPI brand. I'd like to try that out.
I also tried white out ( hoping it would glow under the black lights in the club ) .... and it doesn't. Do you know if the OPI white color will glow ? Maybe I'm short on black light knowledge, but I thought they would glow.

^The UV top coat glows. But, it wears off and then it looks like your polish is chipped.

Yes, looks and feels just like nail polish! I also hate those chunky fake nails.

i have to say this invention is brilliant. i hate the way fake nails look and feel...the only benefit they have is that they don't chip. my nail polish usually chips within a few days, though sometimes lasts longer if i'm not rough on them. and i hate they way they look once they chip.

I tried to find a salon today that had this OPI product, but no luck. I just got a regular polish - and it's already chipped. Boo!

UV Gel is put on fake nails after they are done, then for 4 mins you put your hands under the UV light. Make sure the nail tech applys it smoothly and not in a rush. If the nail tech does rush the UV Gel, then your nails will their are rough tiny spots on the nails. Nail salongs are using this instead of the pink buffing cream. Makes the nails look shinner and last longer. First time I had it done was last year. I live in Houston,TX....at that specific cost me $7 extra. The nail salon I go to now does not charge extra for the UV Gel.
