    Default Mysore/Ashtanga Yoga

I've seen a few threads on this and wanted to say that Ashtanga yoga is awesome when you are looking for a physically and mentally demanding form of yoga. You basically learn to do the whole sequence on your own, and in class everyone goes at their own pace with the instructor giving adjustments. And it's freakin hard. But sooo much fun. I used to do weightlifting quite intensely and a lot of cardio, and even though I was muscular I was nowhere near the shape I am in now.
Traditionally you practice 6 days a week, however, even if you just do it three times a week you'll see great results. And it's not just a physical practice-Ashtanga (as do a lot of other yoga practices) has really made a difference in how I deal with stress. I am going on my fifth year now, and i think it'll be with me until I die. So anyone looking into yoga should give it a try! Any form of yoga is of course great, but I am biased and really think this one rocks hardest!

I am in extremely good shape, have been a combat arts practitioner since I was 7, and thought I was physically pretty durable and have cracked jokes about yoga my whole life. Imagine my surprise when I got my ass completely handed to me by my first Ashtanga class last year. I couldn't believe how hard it was, or how good I felt after. It is like self-chiropractic with complete energy and organ realignment at the same time.

I have since tried other forms of yoga, and none of them have matched the intensity and benefits that I feel I receive from Ashtanga. The practice also perfectly meshes with other sports/martial arts that I study, and I am actually considering teacher certification to help spread the word in the future. Namaste.

^^^that's great-I am always happy to hear from other enthusiasts. I think Ashtanga is sooo beneficial to any kind of practice one has outside of yoga. When I went to my first class I was hooked, and it's also practically eliminated any form of physical discomfort I have.
It would be great if you became certified, we need more of the yoga!
    Namaste

Thanks for the recommendation! I do other forms of yoga, but haven't tried this one yet. I will definitely make a point to do so now. I agree that yoga in general helps deal with stress much more effectively. It certainly has mental benefits as well as physical!
