lots of possibilities here that don't actually involve your body mass index ...

    - the club's 'cut' of your dancing earnings has been less than what the club is able to earn from other dancers who are selling more of 'something' ... and firing you makes room for another dancer who may produce more income for the club ( by whatever means ).

    - the club's attorney is nervous about having to file paperwork on a non-Canadian citizen dancer

    - with tough times everywhere in the dancing industry, the club may indeed have girls knocking on the door who are 5'8" but 125 pounds and 38-24-36. No insult intended, but the fact that you have been working out, have lost weight, and reduced your size to a 10 ( for which you should be congratulated IMHO ) really doesn't mean anything to a cold pragmatic club manager when another girl who is a size 6 and willing to do 'extras' is also available.

    - the club manager may have expected you to 'service' him by now

As much as it hurts to say this, sometimes the better part of valor is to recognize when you're in a 'no win' situation. Remaining very long in Toronto and spending $ 380 a week on accomodations with zero dancing money coming in just isn't a practical option. And no matter how hard you work out and diet, it's impossible to lose another 25 pounds in a couple of weeks. And even if you did 'kill yourself' to trim down to the point of meeting this club's supposed standards, if the 'extras factor' or the Canadian citizen factor is the real issue you're still not likely to get rehired by this club. At that point you would be broke, hungry, and still without a dancing job !

My immediate advice is to start hitting other clubs in the area ... particularly in the suburbs ... to see if you can quickly hook up with a different club. Failing that, I'd start thinking about packing your bags and heading to greener pastures while you still have enough money to do so.

Oh my fucking God. Are you shitting me? What a cunt. I seriously hope it was just some odd bullshit and he did not actually decide that you're too fat - after all, you HAVE done SO MUCH recently and just keep on improving - surely he knows it's just going to keep getting better. I was under the impression dive clubs didn't give a fuck as long as you tipped out at the end of the night. Ugh!

Oops sorry you moved from Florida to Toronto...
It sucks but you have to pick yourself up and dust yourself off.
Try to find another club. I hope it all works out. Buena suerte we always say. (I'm superstitous about saying good luck)

I doubt this - the club doesn't take cuts of our money. Just pay house fees and you're good to go

Yep, this is true. Trust me when I say the girls who worked with me were def. not 5'8" and 125....although many had payed their dues in other ways.

    - the club manager may have expected you to 'service' him by now
This is what I believe is going on. Was going to update more about it later.

Remaining very long in Toronto and spending $ 380 a week on accomodations with zero dancing money coming in just isn't a practical option. You're absolutely right...I'm giving myself 2 weeks to find another dancing gig that pays well before I leave the city. I was making plenty of money when I danced (it's grown from 700 to 1500/week now that I had gotten used to the club). Unfortunately I'm still paying off an apartment in Florida until August that's rather expensive, which is why I haven't been able to save much.
    *sigh* Losing battle...

This is what I thought too! I thought to myself "Alright, a central area, I can stay in the hotel for cheap, shape up, not be under pressure/scrutiny and then try auditioning at some better places once I look my best". Apparently this divy place is trying to go higher class.

....I think It's because I haven't screwed the manager yet - and I refuse to.

I had this happen to me too, babygirl. Fuck that dive- it sounds to me like if it has a motel on top, it can't be full of caliber people. Find yourself a nice suburbanish club, and rock the hell out of the audition. Always make yourself useful to the club, come to work, get nakee, make your money, and go home drama free

I'm a bigger girl too. There are lots of men who like their ladies padded and jiggly. :-D

I totally agree with Melonie on everything she said.

I'd look for other clubs, and possibly look into web camming as well. Is flying home now an option for you? If you don't have a place in FL what about staying at a hostel that's reasonably priced while you work and save up? Another option is getting back to the US and traveling to clubs.

^ the problem here is I'm not American, I'm Canadian, and I overstayed my I-94 in while I was in the states, so I can't go back for 3 years. I'm literally on my own out here.

And I'm staying in pretty well the cheapest hotel in the city ATM. I'll find work else where before my cash runs out, I know that, It's really more about me being upset about being fired for being 'fat', when I was hardly the biggest girl at the club. No sense to whine about it, I know, but its just a bummer that I'm being booted for not doing the manager. Fucker.

Oh well, on to bigger and better things! (and a smaller me, soon enough).

^^^ Sorry, I thought you were from the US when you mentioned FL. Check out webcams and other work on the side.

Also, do you think there's any chance they'd let you work as a cocktail waitress or bartender? Check into the webcamming for sure though.

Thumbs up Re: Fired for being too fat.

This sucks. It could be many other reasons as others have pointed out.

If you make money at this club lose the weight.

You're tall and a size 10 is probably borderline for most clubs. You are a normal weight but by Canadian strip club standards they are are hard core.

If you want to lose weight fast add an extra 30-45-60 minutes on a stair master.

I've quickly lost some weight recently so if you need some extra tips PM me.

Canadian clubs are like that. Some places you can't even work if your over 28 years old!

    You can do it!

(Think I'm going to add a fitness thread to my Ask a Stripper forum...thanks for reminding me.)

From what I understand 4everresolutions is a Canadian citizen. I know which club she is talking about, and from my understanding they only take a house fee (I think somewhere to the tune of $60 a night) and not % of dances, although I could be wrong as I have never worked there. That said I do think your points are valid.

Recently I was told I am "too fat" to work at the only club in my area. I live in the suburbs of Toronto (oshawa to be exact). I am 5'7 and 130 pounds 38D-27-35 and wear a size 7 dress.

At $190 a week 4everresolutions is better off finding a cheap, dog friendly room on craigslist for around $400/month. If absolute need be applying for welfare for a month or two might be an option. The people at the social assistance office are very helpful and honesty is the best policy in dealing with them.

I found myself in a situation needing social assistance recently. I sat down with a worker who went through all my assets and tax filings. I was not approved for full financial assistance, but rather just for medical and transportation. I was honest with them about my work (and my inability to work because of my foot). And in turn I was treated with respect and my file got approved. I do have a car (according to the worker "primary vehicles are exempt up to $20,000"), an RSP and some other investments. I only plan on staying on till my medical issues are resolved. I get a drug card and transportation budget (some of my docs are in Toronto) every month. In return I send them income statements and bank info.

Oh well, on to bigger and better things! (and a smaller me, soon enough).

I would suggest making a move to the burbs. You can rent a room for around $300-450 and many places don't even ask for first/last.

where I live currently I pay $800 and rent half a house. I do have a roommate, but I do get 2 bedrooms out of our 3 bedroom house. So really half a house for $800. That includes utilities, cable, laundry and parking. I only pay for my phone and internet.

My landlord is a really cool guy. I did do first/last with him, but I know he does not require it. He never asked for work references and he does know what I do for a living. All in all pretty laid back. I found him by placing an ad on craigslist that read something like this (the title, not the whole ad):

"sex worker and her pets seek living space"

So I got many responses from ppl willing to let me move in without checking credit or work references. I did give my landlord 2 references from prior landlords. I have never defaulted on rent (I am always early or on time) so I had landlords that were willing to give me a good references.

So what I am getting at is try placing an ad explaining your situation, screen landlords carefully (never give rent or deposit unless you are with a signed lease and key in hand!) and find a good cheap place!

In my experience (and I'm Canadian as well, just living in Louisiana) the clubs in Canada, especially the eastern side, have a lot of eastern European girls working- they tend to be on the thinner side. I notice in the States it's more acceptable and almost preferable for the girls to be a little softer.

PLEASE don't think I'm being mean, moving down to a 10 from a 14 is FANTASTIC! But I still think a 10 is a little bigger I guess. I'm 5'8" and recently lost 6lbs (from 130 to 124, lots of it from quitting drinking!) and I'd still like to lose a touch more. I'm not small boned either, medium frame- 34-26-34, and that puts me anywhere from a 6 to a 4 depending on the maker of the garment. So I would imagine once you lose a little more, you'll have a bit more success. I'd go to the suburbs in the interim though.

What?! I think dancers who take care of themselves are absolutely in their prime from 25-35.

Lots of great advice! Thank you!!!

From what I can tell I don't qualify for social assistance as I've only been here 7 weeks. Isn't there a 12 week minimum for that sort of thing? Else I would be all over some of that unemployment/welfare. I don't like taking handouts that aren't deserved, but I'm currently without income, so I'm not above the help, if I'm able to get it.

I'm really thinking about getting a roomshare, as you and lots of others have mentioned. I don't have my dog with me right now, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find a place to stay. I'm wary of posting an ad like you described because I'm very concerned about my safety. Not sure about moving to the burbs either, as I don't have a car. I know the TTC is an effective way of getting around, but from what I can tell coverage is spotty if you're too far outside the city. I'm going to have to do some more research into busline maps, etc. It's good to have your input on this because I know you know the city!

Oh, and the club only charges a $20 house fee. Most girls don't make $60/night so they would never get away with charging that. Yes - you heard right. For most ladies at this club, a night with over $100 is good. If you're dirty, over $200 is good money.

I find it both amazing and odd that the standards to dance in Canada are higher than in the US. Actually, I'm sort proud of Canada for that; our standards are higher because we breed more beautiful women (Just look at yourself and OJenni! ).

I don't find it mean at all. Size 10 is big for the world of dancing, although average for the 'real world', and certinaly women can be very beautiful at a size 10 or more. I have every intent of making my way down to a size 8 (usually about 150 for my build) and eventually a size 6 if I can manage it; I'm simply astounded I got the boot givin the caliber of the place. It's kinda laughable. Kudos to you for dropping some weight recently too, and giving up drinking! I doubt I'll ever be in the 120's - I would have to sacrifice too much to manage that; but being thinner I WILL make more money...and I'm looking forward to that.

Me too. Body at it's peak, mature and experienced enough to handle most situations with grace and carry on intelligent conversation, still young enough to hustle their ass off and make tons of moola.

I'd say about half the dancers at the club I got booted from were over 35 though....well over.

its really unfortunate, but my favourite SC closed down. The one in Peterborough. You could have rocked the club there. I averaged about $300-$400 a night there. The house fee was $15 and if you needed to stay at the motel another $15. I think the weekly rate was like $75 to stay there for dancers. I never stayed at the motel but did go in to one of the rooms (a dancer friend of mine was staying) and it seemed decent. Clean, quiet and warm (in the winter).

I would have told you to go work that club. It hosted WAY too many scary skinny, older, drug addicted woman. However a few gems would come to the club (mainly travelling dancers) and bring major talent. One blonde girl (with majorly HOT legs) managed to work wiping down the pole in to her amazing poll tricks and routine. Seriously she would bring Lysol and a paper towel with her on to stage and work the cleaning in to the poll routine. She would be doing advanced poll tricks (like many of the ones you see on youtube from the amazing ladies here) and cleaning! I would always watch her show. She had a way of making people look at her. She was very fit, about 5'5 115 pounds I bet, C cup boobs, straight long blonde hair. She was super nice, clean and had a way of drawing attention to herself in a good way. She banked.

Then there was a black dancer that was super talkative and looked like Michelle from Destiny's Child. She was my friend that let me check out the motel room. We shared alot about the club and she told me she liked it there because of the low pressure to do "extras". She told me (I was a newbie at the time) that $10 dances in a relatively conservative town meant that extras were not tolerated here. She was right. The club although being on the trashy/divey side, was not tolerant of extras.

Ah will I ever miss that club!

^ The problem is most customers would disagree, because they want young dancers who are hopefully stupid and give away too much for too little.

I moved from Florida to Toronto in April to dance at this club, and literally only have 6 weeks of savings to live off of - to the tune of $1350. I'm living in the hotel above the club, which costs me $190/week as a dancer (mind you it's bound to cost double now).

I go to check in for work at the front desk, and I'm told that I've been barred from Dancing. They wait until I'm all dolled up and in costume ready to start work to tell me that I've been fired. Apparently the hireing manager was supposed to call me. He hadn't.

I get back to my room, freaking out, and call the hiring manager several times until I get an answer. Apparently I'm not an appropriate 'fit' for the club...but I'm welcomed to try out again if/once I shape up. In the last 6 weeks I've shrunk from a 14 to a 10, and I've been working so hard on my body....I thought I looked better than ever. FYI, I'm between 5'7" and 5'8" and about 155-160 by now. Meaasurments around 39-29-38 (Bust, waste, hips). If anyone follows my posts then you know I've been going to the gym, eating well and really working hard trying to educate myself about building a better body

I'm frustrated by the lack of professionalism at the way my firing was handled. Mostly I'm mad because I don't consider myself big at all. I'm going to take some pictures of my body tonight (once I calm down) and post them so you ladies can let me know if this was warranted, and maybe (dare I ask) words of encouragement about what to fix. There's been some odd stuff going on at this club lately with me, and I'm thinking there are really other reasons as to why I was given the boot. More into that later. God, I'm so upset.

Oh BTW, this is a DIVE club. Not upscale, AT ALL. Humph.

I'm so sorry this happened to you Sweetie. Along with racism and sexism...'fattism' or 'sizeism' is totally unacceptable in my book. They're a bunch of assholes and you'll find somewhere better.
