Have you ever refused on you choice of songs?
Have you ever refused on you choice of songs?

In my club, you can choose. However, there are requirements.
You cannot play R&B if 2 or even 1 girl(s) before you has played it.
When auditioning, you have to audition to rock.
The DJ can say no to any request, but usually will not unless it's something rediculously inappropriate for dancing. Too hard, Classical, etc.
I brought in a mix CD today, and had the DJ tell me which he thought were good or not, which were too hard for me to dance to for my style, which he liked, etc. Our DJ's rock!
So only 1 girl per night is allowed to dance to R&B? That's a strange rule to have.
Nix on classical I totally understand though!

No no, say songs played go in this order, 1) rock, 2), r&b, 3) r&b ... if you're the 4th girl up, you can't dance to R&b. Say 1 had danced to r&b, 2 to rock, and 3 to r&b, THEN you could, you just can't play it too many times in a row if other people have, but if it cycles, then fine.
Oh, that makes sense!

We just had a shift on policy where now they are not allowed to play 2 rap songs in a row. Fortunately for me, I was unaffected by the change.

Yeah, but within the clubs standards.

At my club, whoever dances main stage gets to pick the music, but only if they tip the DJ first. No rap, and if you get to main stage twice, the DJ won't play anything on your second main set that he played on your first.
At my homeclub, yes.
At this new club I worked at the DJ didn't want me to pick my own songs -- only the genre that I liked. I still told him the artists/songs I liked and he figured it out from there. He did a good job, surprisingly.

once i worked at a club (for two days ) that said the normal rock music i like was too aggressive...not metal just normal rock, mxpx was one band in particular that got shot down.
but where i work now its exactly songs i like( saved in a folder) so if i'm too busy to get up there he just plays from the folder

Music was the one thing that I never settled on. Meaning that at every club I found out whether I had the choice to pick my music. Several clubs told me the DJ's chose the music, and other clubs told me the music was already picked so I walked on.

Most DJ's don't have the music I like. (Or even heard of most of the bands I love.) We're allowed to bring in our IPODS, so that's awesome. The club I'm at now, there aren't any restrictions on what you can't play.
At my club, you can't pick your own songs/music. However, customers can request stuff, and they can request a certain style of music for a particular girl. For instance, I was chatting with a couple, and the girl asked me what my favorite kind of music to dance to was. I told her I love Deftones, Tool, that sort of thing. So she requested a Tool/APC set for me.
Our daytime DJ also gets to know what kind of stuff you like, so unless you're a no-tipping pain in the ass, he'll play the kind of stuff that you look good dancing to.
Our nighttime DJ takes customer requests, but he tends to play more what the crowd seems to want. So late night when it's all baggy pants, hats to the side, and 'making it rain', he'll play rap and r&b mostly.
