    Default Escorting in Canada

Hey ladies. I did a little bit of research about escorting in Canada and found out it isn't actually illegal to be an escort in Canada (correct me if anything I'm saying is wrong...this is all internet research). I live about 20 minutes north of Detroit, so I'm not *that* far from Canada, although I've never been. I'm wondering... if I was to get a passport would it be too much hassle to cross the bridge and escort in Canada so I'm not breaking the law?

Questions that come to mind are:

    - What country would I be paying taxes in?
    - Who do you pay taxes to in Canada if you are an escort?
    - How long does it to take to get across that damn bridge?
    - How much does it cost to get across the bridge?
    - Would I need a work visa to escort in Canada?
    - How is the money in Canada?
    - Exchange rates? If I'm being paid by Canadian customers I'd get Canadian money. Would I lose money by exchanging it to US currency?

Seems like it'd be too much hassle, but hey, even for 8k a month I'd be content. I'd love to make more though. I have a kid, so not breaking the law would be sweet.

Any insight would be helpful. I'm sure I'm not the only one whose thought about this.

    Thanks!

Do you like filthy dirty perverted sex? Then come see me!

Just kidding...it's a 4 hour drive, and the going rate for a call girl in my city is not worth it. Outcalls are legal as far as I know. Incalls I believe are referred to as keeping a common bawdy house, or some such antiquated shit. The escorts on the site here can confirm if I've got that right or not. If you've got a passport, getting across should be easy. I can't advise you to lie about your purpose for visiting Canada, for reasons I can't get into, so I won't.

Zofia, or Melonie can tell you about the tax laws for Americans earning foreign income. Good on you for wanting to report the income to the proper authorities.
The toll for crossing the bridge is $4 for a passenger car:
    http://www.crossingmadeeasy.com/ambassador-bridge.htm

That link also contains a link on the page for bridge crossing wait times.
Call the American Consulate in Toronto for info on visas/working in Canada, or browse around their website:
    http://toronto.usconsulate.gov/content/index.asp

Exchange rates: the dollars are pretty close right now....maybe 5 or 6 cents difference. Each Canadian dollar is worth about 94 cents US. That changes everyday though, and you can count on the Canadian dollar equalling or exceeding the US dollar at some point too.

The rates for escorts/callgirls are all over the board. You'll need to do some research, and also decide what you are worth for an hour or two. You are a hot little piece of ass, so don't sell yourself cheap.

Thanks for the advice hockeybobby! A four hour drive seems like a lot, seems like I'd have to stay in a hotel for a few days and visit customers in their homes (so as not to break any laws) and then come home in order to have it be profitable and worth it. I'm not really one to want to travel and stay away from home that long, and because I have a young child that isn't really plausible. If I didn't have a child I'd probably spend a week in Canada every month to earn my money and then leave, but as stated, it's not doable.

A four hour drive each way would eat up 1/3 of my day, sleeping would eat up another 1/3 of my day, and getting ready/working would eat up the other 1/3 of my day. It'd be about $80 in gas total and eek... I'm just not sure if it's worth it. I'm going to do some more research, because not breaking the law would be sweet. I'm still planning on stripping (and my boyfriend is not down for the whole escorting this as it is) but I'm still going to research, no harm there.

If there was a way I could make about 60 or 70k after taxes and travel expenses yearly I'd probably consider it. I'm just not sure how plausible that is with all the traveling.

Hmmm... I guess I'm not that good with estimating time. I mapquested my apartment to about 1/2 a mile from the Ambassador Bridge and it says I live 35 minutes away. I'm near the bridge all the time so I knew it couldn't be that far! So with the 35 minutes of driving how long would it take to get across the bridge? If it only took like an hour or an hour and a half then it would SO be worth it! The question is...can you smoke cigarettes on the bridge?! I can't sit in a car for an hour without smoking a cig :x... and I think its illegal to bring American cigs into Canada and vice versa...right?

And are you implying I should tell them that I'm visiting Canada to escort? Wouldn't they catch on that I was working anyway because I'd be coming through so often?

Help! And thanks...I am a damn hot piece of ass. I was thinking of charging between $300 and $400/hour (US). I'm not sure what I'd charge in Canada, but something close to that.

    Thanks!

As of now most of the time the waits posted are 10 minutes or less. Does that mean if I left my house now, drove the 35 minutes, and sat on the bridge of 10 minutes or so I could be in Canada on my merry way (unless I got pulled by customs)?

I didn't think that was possible...

EDIT: Why are people saying you have to drive from Windsor to Toronto? (I'm ignorant to Canada...never left the U.S.) I couldn't work in/near Windsor? I know from listening to the radio that Windsor is party city, but still. Somewhere nearby? I'm confused :l

Of course you could work in Windsor....just google around and check out what other escorts are advertising. Check craigslist and kijiji.ca as well.

And no, driving to Toronto doesn't make sense unless you've got some dates set up, or a weekend date.

Why don't you get your passport and go for a day trip into Windsor with your husby just for fun? Go to the Casino or something, have a picnic, whatever...just to try it out. It's not all that foreign a country, we're a lot like Michigan.

Oh, you can smoke in your car on the bridge...no worries.

Sweet on the whole smoking thing.

Getting a sitter would be the challenge in regards to taking a trip there, but even if I don't wind up escorting there...I could always strip there. I'm not sure how big of a bitch getting a work visa for something lucrative like those industries would be though :x.

    I'll have to find out!

    Thanks!

To escort in Canada legally there is some loop wholes, like legally outcalls are acceptable, incalls are not legal, but the cops don't really enforce them unless there is high traffic, and complaints and also if they suspect minors, drugs. You could live well from escorting in Canada but by being discreet and keeping alow profile which goes for most other countries.
www.sexwork.com has a summer of the laws of it. but in some cities in canada you need a liscence to be an escort Windsor and Calgary that I know of I do not know if its for visitors or residences but i have seen girls from those cities with thier liscence number in thier ads.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Canada has a summary of the laws as well.
www.uwindsor.ca/star has great info about working in Canada also Stella http://www.chezstella.org/stella/?q=node/182
Questions that come to mind are:

    - What country would I be paying taxes in?
AS for taxes it would be best to ask a tax person, this is complicated

    - Who do you pay taxes to in Canada if you are an escort?
YES some do, but most don't who wants to go to jail for not filing taxes
    properly

    - How long does it to take to get across that damn bridge?
it depends on where your coming from, and how business it is,

    - How much does it cost to get across the bridge?
it depends on where your coming from, how your travelling plain, bus , car.

    - Would I need a work visa to escort in Canada?
NO, but you will need money for advertising, hotel, or stay with a friend, phone line, photos, website maybe,

    - How is the money in Canada?
    it depends on the city.

    - Exchange rates? If I'm being paid by Canadian customers I'd get Canadian money. Would I lose money by exchanging it to US currency?
Some pay in Canadian or american, if i was american coming to canada at this point I would take canadian dollars.

Seems like it'd be too much hassle, but hey, even for 8k a month I'd be content. I'd love to make more though. I have a kid, so not breaking the law would be sweet.

Any insight would be helpful. I'm sure I'm not the only one whose thought about this.

Windsor is a different city then Toronto about 2 hours away. which can be done in the Go transit system.
