Default scheduled to work, but hungover. what do you do?

Wow, that really sounded like a newbie question! (I'm not, just haven't had this problem in a while.) Can I take a quick survey of how y'all make yourselves get into the mood for work when all you want to do is go back to bed? Please don't tell me to take the night off and pay the fine. I said I'd be there, so I'll be there.

I have 3 hours. Thanks for any and all advice!

    1. Drink some water, take a multi vitamin, & some vitamin c.
    2. When getting ready for work, finish with a cold shower.
    3. Have a drink at work.... hair of the dog, baby.

    Good luck.

been there, done that...once. i was still puking on my way to the car. it was new years day, and i had had waaaaay too much to drink on NYE.

i showered and reminded myself it was a job, and in any other job, you dont get to call out or not show just because you are hungover. you did it to yourself, so you man up and deal.

it sucked, but i did it.

try to take it easy if you can. drink water or gatorade, eat something, and you'll manage. i promise

    Call in sick.
Never drink again when you know you'll need to work soon.

Treat it like a normal job. If you are messed up you aren't on top of your game, and won't be as good at work.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Eat something... anything that will stay down. Drink a gatorade. Take a pain killer. Have another drink. Feels terrible at first but unfortunately the only thing that makes a hangover go away is more alcohol for me. You can still have a good night... once you get going you'll forget how shit you feel. And try not to forget it so next time you won't do it again.

I hope I don't get flamed for this, I am NOT condoning recreational pill usage at all....

An 800 mg Motrin or a Vicodin (I have a RX for Vics) and a bloody mary or chelada beer is the only thing other than sleep that will make a hangover tolerable for me. Sleep isn't always an option, as exemplified here....

Also Fiji water is great for hangovers because of it's high alkalinity.

I have a prescription for Vicodin for other issues and I NEVER use them unless I absolutely have to. I get really, really horrible hangovers so aside from my other occasional pain that is the only time I will reach for them. If you don't have access to something like that, try Advil, the coated kind cause it's easier on your stomach and the "hair of the dog".....like one or two Coronas with a little clamato or a bloody mary (hold the tabasco)

You've obviously went to work by now and figured something out but maybe this will be useful some other time

    Drink lot's of water.

Take some vitamin B if you have it. Part of the hangover headache is your body being depleted of vitamin B.

Drink an Odwalla C monster. One of the best hangover relievers.

Take an Aleve. There is a certain chemical in it the takes away the anxiety.

Whenever I drink I take Vitamin B well in advance. I don't know if its scientific and actually works, or is just psychosomatic placebo effect but I tend this fights hangovers before they start.

Anyway, I find eating eggs help once the damage is done. I admire your work ethic and honor to your word; I would have pussied out and not gone.

Keep two gaterades on hand and always drink them before you sleep the night of. Then, on waking, have a pot of week brewed coffee. The weekness does it for me because it has less caffean content and helps you on the feet better. Then, on way to work purchase a few energy drinks. Chug one, and sip the rest till midnight, at which time you should have eanouph booze and caffean to feel GREAT! Repeat.
Yeah. I am SO glad I quit the drinking.

I know this is after the fact of your post but FYI for next time...

To treat a hangover the natural way and cleanse and detox the body of toxins (brought about by excess alcohol) herbal and homeopathic remedies can be gentle, yet very effective hangover cures. Natural hangover cures can help to kick-start your body and restore balance.

Herbs such as Taraxacum officinalis (Dandelion), Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) and Pelargonium reniforme can serve to flush out the system, rejuvenate liver functioning and eliminate bloating. It is important to always remember to source herbal remedies from a reputable company to ensure non-contaminated ingredients, maximum efficacy and product integrity.

I've gone in to work hungover more than once, and the LAST thing I want to do is drink more, like a bloody mary. The best thing I find is to sip cold water, slowly, and ask the DJ to play you some really slow songs. During your stage set, move as slowly and seductively as you can, even if it's not your style; you'll find that the guys will love the intensity and you might make more money.

I work day shift which starts at noon and one Friday I came in after being out until 4 AM. I was dizzy and shaky until at least 3 in the afternoon, and didn't do any hair flips or upside down moves, and made at least as much, if not MORE than usual. Slow moves and water saved me that day.

I know my post was made after the fact, because it was a few nights ago that you needed the help... what did you end up doing to get through?

Thanks for the vitamin and herb recommendations. I'll keep them in mind next time I'm grocery shopping. Until I'm ready to give up alcohol, I need to plan ahead. I'm just happy quit partying a couple of years ago. I could have felt much worse.

I made myself a huge frangelico-sweetened iced coffee, took a long shower, and reminded myself that I can always go in late. I only worked from 11:30 to 4am, drinking just enough Jameson to scare the headache away. I made better money than most Thursdays, probably because I stayed in autopilot mode. Sometimes not being able to think is a good thing in a strip club.

Thanks for the lack of judgment, y'all!

This is a serious job and should be treated with professionalism. I'm not trying to sound condescending; I used to do the same thing all the time. I recently cut waaaay back, and I feel awesome. I lost weight, have more stable moods, and I make more $$$!

I'm sure you already feel better, but next time take a Midol and drink a lot of water. It works wonders.

Obviously this is past the day you needed it, but for everyone else... when I am hungover I usually take a Motrin or some Asprin, and wash my face with cold water. I try to throw up if I feel queasy to get whatever is bugging my body out of my system (NO FINGER DOWN THE THROAT... that is dangerous. just drink some lukewarm water and cough gently). Then, I take a multivitamin (I really try to do this the night before as well), and (my two big secrets):

    1. Eat something with cayenne pepper in in if I can eat... it helps me to metabolize what's in my system.

    2. If I can't eat, I suffer through the headache and go running so I can sweat, or run my shower REALLY hot and sweat it out in a steamed up room.

I'm not sure if that has any biological backing to it, but it works for me. Also, bananas are very good for hangovers. Other than that, lots of room temperature or cool water, not freezing.

Really the best cure is not to drink, but if you do.... that's what works for me.

Make sure you have your favorite outfits in your bag and all the stuff you like to wear and dance to, then just go. For me, the longer I'm there, the easier it gets. If you have regular customers that you enjoy seeing, then call or email them, tell them you've had a long day, and hope to see them at the club to cheer you up. To me, making money brings me out of any illness at work, so set yourself up for it and take any hangover cures you can think of just for good measure.

BTW, the bananas help because they are rich in potassium, which is one of the things you need when you are dehydrated (alcohol dehydrates you).
