Default anyone else annoyed with their metabolism?

im just irritated right now. im a vegan i eat organic when possible and my calorie intake averages about 1300 a day. i avoid any soda, fast food fried food or weird chemicals when possible. im somewhat active not as much id like to be but i dont lay on the couch all day either. but im still 160 pounds and 59. i will never be tiny. ever. my whole family is big and im the smallest of them all. but i still have this damn little tummy pouch and im toohard up for cash to afford a gym membership at this point in time. wheni see tiny girls eating mcdonalds i want to crush them grrrr.most men seem to prefer petite women but im just not one. is there anyone lesewho knowsthey will never be a size 2 or even 4 and is irritated with it?

Maybe eating so little is what's slowin' you down! Anything below 1200 and you're going to go into "I am a bear in winter" mode.

I agree, you CAN get down to those sizes, it's very possible, but you need to diet AND workout. Also, how much water do you drink each day? You should be drinking at least four liters per day, if not more. When your body is completely hydrated, your organs are all functioning at their peak performance, and your metabolism speeds way up. In fact, I've always lost the most weight by drastically increasing my water intake. Try it out!

    I'm "bigger boned", and I've been a size 2 before - anorexic. At size 4 I was borderline, at a size 6/8 I'm healthy. I won't ever be a size 0...

However, don't just equate it to the gym! If you need to exercise than do it. Go walk/run/ride a bike, jump rope. Heck, even bowling and rollerskating are some exercise. For weights, use empty plastic milk cartons and fill them up with water or sand. Even dancing in your room will help. Or, pick up a second job cleaning houses. House work actually burns a reasonable amount of calories.

if you live in a bicycle friendly city, start biking everywhere instead of driving too. this is a big one for me. when i was in austin i think i biked an average of 15 miles a day just going to and from the places that i would otherwise have to drive to or take a cab to or beg a friend for a ride to.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

gym memberships aren't that expensive, i know at my gym i pay 14 bucks bi-weekly/28 bucks a month, you just gotta call around and see if they have any promotional offers going on. I don't know where you're from so I can't offer any suggestion in regards of gyms. But all the other girls are right, you don't need to go to a gym, I used to just do lunges, squats, sit-ups, push ups etc at home with two 5pd dumbbells, good luck

Stop being so hard on yourself, and most of all stop comparing yourself to others. I have been stuggling with eating disorders forever. Maybe you need to go to therapy, I understand that money is tight, there are therapists out there who work on sliding scales. Learn to love yourself, you are a work in progress right now. I know that when I was vegan, I did it partially for the animals, and mostly because I wanted to restrict myself. Like the others here have said drink water, and get active. There is also a member named Will on this forum check out what he posts regarding exercise and supplements, he is very informative! Be kind to yourself!!!

I agree with the combination of diet and exercise is need to reach your goals. You don't need a gym membership to exercise. Also if you are really concerned about it, ask your doctor to check your thyroid... It maybe underactive.

I have the same problem..... I eat vegan organic/gluten free mostly raw and my calories vary between 1200-1800/day depending on how active i am- I have been stuck at my set point WHICH I HATE, for ever. I am now trying to lower my set point by 10 pounds by going to the gym 4-5x week for cardio/weight training to increase muscle which will increase my metabolism. Maybe try weight training? These last two weeks I've been going to the gym pretty consistently in addition to my hikes/walks with my dog & dancing 3x week, and i definitely notice a difference in the way my clothes fit- i think i've lost fat and gained muscle but the number on the scale has stayed the same. I hope in two weeks there's an actual loss on the scale from burning fat though.... my set point is 140 at 5'7, I always seem to gravitate here no matter what. I hate it. I should be grateful though, I'm the smallest in my family, my sister is 190 at this height, but she also eats the standard american diet with tons of sugar and white flour. gross.

I read in an article if you have sparse outer eyebrows your thyroid could be low, and I definitely do, always have.... so I'm going to look into which herbs to take to stimulate the thyroid gland, I think that might be my problem... because with an hour of cardio 4-5x week, weight training, almost daily hiking/walking AND dancing, and a super clean diet, it doesn't make sense that i'm still at this weight. i feel like i have to work twice as hard as a normal person to stay fit.

Kylea, do you know if being anorexic can mess up your thyroid gland? I was anorexic from the ages of 14-17 and have been "recovered" for almost 5 years now, but I've been STUCK at this weight and size 6. When I was sick I was a size 2, but that was with fasting, or eating maybe maximum 800 calories a day on a "bad" day, and going to the gym EVERY day and not leaving until I burnt 600 calories. I think I just messed my metabolism up.. I remember before I had eating problems I was 120 pounds, maybe an inch shorter, and didn't do anything to maintain it, other than being a normal, active teenage girl... but it could have just been because it wasn't my full grown adult weight.. i didn't even get my period until I was 16.

Anyone heard of fucothin? It's a supplement that contains an extract of seaweed called fucoxanthin that is supposed to speed up your metabolism. I just started taking it regularly 2 weeks ago, so we'll see how that works. Supposedly for low thyroid one of the natural remedies is eating kelp/bladderwrack seaweed because it contains iodine. Hopefully it works!

Yes, I think anorexia, bulimia and any extreme form of dieting screws up your metabolism. I used to be obsessed with the gym and clean eating to an unhealthy point and will never be able to eat somewhat normal and be the size I want to be. It took me a long time to realize, but everybody is different and there is a lot of beauty in that. I know what you mean, I'm always the "big girl" at work, but I am very toned and have never had a customer tell me I was fat. Only the other big, (but out of shape) girls always feel the need to point it out to them.. I know it's not easy but we all have to accept our own bodies at some point, cause you can only change them to a degree. I am not saying it's okay to be fat and unhealthy, but everybody is different, including their metabolism.

I'm also vegan and eat organic most of the time. I also have a genetic pot-belly that I have worked for years to get rid of. I used to run 60 miles a week and I still had a pot-belly! But I was also doing it in competition meaning I ate a lot (to "carb up" and restore nutrients to muscles).

I have been able to become a little bit slimmer by being more selective about what I do. I have added a couple rules to my lifestyle (I'm vegan for animals and health so I see it as a lifestyle). I still have a potbelly but this has helped:
    1. Limit vegan junk food (soy cheese, fake meats, cookies, etc.) and substitute with vegetables and fruits.
    2. Trade all white pasta and rice for wheat bread and wild rice.
    3. No sugar, fried foods, or over processed foods.

I also try to run a couple times a week and do lots of crunches (for upper and lower abs). I'm always going to have a potbelly but I'm going to try to make it as small as possible.

    Hope this helps!

I am in a similar boat-and even have a personal trainer, nutritionist, and therapist. All to help with an ED and losing weight in a healthy manner.

So far, no luck in the weight loss department, but I have been "recovered" from my ED for a year and half. Since two months ago they thought that it is now time to start some healthy weight loss, but nada yet. GRRR.....

The nutritionist has me eating according to portions and servings, as in 4 servings of whole grains, 3 vegetables, 2 fruits, 3 healthy fats, 4 proteins, etc. And she gave me a chart to show me what a true portion is.

The personal trainer has me doing whole-body weight training 3x/week and cardio 5 days/week, with 2 of those days being intense intervals (HITT). blech...it's killer. Some days she has me flipping a tractor tire, then climbing a rope, then abs and lower back. Hate that! I am always sore after doing that.

IDK if that helps or not, but it's what is healthy for me.

I'm in the opposite boat. I used to weigh 132 before I had my baby, when I gave birth in October, I weighed 187 (give or take a few) and wasn't able to keep anything down for days after giving birth. Then, when I was able to keep food down, I just had NO appetite. I'd FORCE myself to eat an apple, and that would be all I'd have for the entire day. The next day, I'd force down a slice of raisin bread or something like that. Pair that with literally getting 45 mins of sleep (broken up, not all at once) per night for the first month of new motherhood, and I lost so much weight that everyone thought I was sick.

My daughter is 8 months old now and I'm finally starting to get my old appetite back. I'm DYING, to gain weight back because I look disgusting.

My point: Being a size 1 or 2 is not for everybody, that's what size I am and I hate it.
