    Default New here

I just started taking classes for starting to strip, and i wanted to get a pole to practice at home. i don't want to spend the 300+ for one. I just want a cheaper one that i can practice spins and the easier stuff on. I was looking at spencers and saw the carmen electra pole for $120, or the hot pink dance for $100.

are either of them ok to use for light practice?

if you plan on spinning with your full body weight on them, or going upside down, then no. they are used for posing

Maybe I'm a cheap-ass, but my ex-bf got me a pole from Lowes and all the stuff to secure it to the floor and ceiling, for under $50. Me and my roommate swing ourselves around it like crazy and I've never had a problem!

I had the carmen electra pole... depending on your ceiling and your skills... Id yuou properly install it then you shouldnt have a problem, I had it and could do the inverted-v with it. But to stick with the safer side.. do buy a pole that is 300+.. lil myxn is around 250 and has a good rating.

Plus, when you start working, youll be able to get the hang of it there and same with the moves and stuff etc.. so if youre taking some stripping classes.. dont, their just a waste of money.

If you just want to practice your moves -surrounding- the pole, and posing, then get a cheap one.

Once you want to move into doing tricks, as was previously stated, putting your weight on the pole, don't skimp out on safety for the price. be safe

I've heard too many horror stories from girls who have actually used the cheap poles to ever willingly use one myself. As others have already said here, don't cheap out on safety! You've only got one body.

That being said, if you're looking for a more economical quality pole, the new X-Pole Sport model might be a good choice. It's static only, unlike the regular X-Pole which can be switched between static and spinny modes. It sells for about $250.

Another option would be to check out some of the pole dancing forums, such as or . It's not unusual for people to be selling used poles on them. These are the brands to look for: X-Pole, Platinum Stages, or Lil Mynx.

If you're uncertain which options to go for, finish and size-wise, the safe bet is to start with a 50mm (2 inch) chrome or stainless steel. You should be able to adapt to any pole you come across if you start on that. There's lots of great advice though on the above pole dancing forums about purchasing poles appropriate for people's needs. It's well worth taking the time to read.

I too had the Carmen Electra Pole. It was okay for testing new moves but the spring busted very easily and I had to get rid of it.

Never, ever skimp on safety. If you have to save up for a more expensive stationary pole, that is your best bet.

    And welcome to SW!!

I know that I shouldn't skimp out on my safety. I've read the stories and won't be going with the ones from spencers, i googled making one for under 100, I was thinking of trying that. right now my budget isn't set for spending $250+

Just throwing this out there: You don't have to know how to pole dance to work/make money in a strip club! If you're looking for the most cost-effective solution your cheapest option by far would be to start working at a club ASAP and learn/practice pole work while you're there.

probably going to get the carmen electra one. i've been reading that it's okay as long as you aren't trying to do crazy shit on it. i just want to practice the easier spins (fireman, sunwheel) on it in the comfort of my own home. At this point theres no way I'm going upsidedown or climbing up a pole. lol.

Just for the record, yesterday my roomie tried to flip upside down on my homemade pole, and it crashed down with her on it, onto the laptop she was using to watch how-to vids

I no longer stand by my homemade pole!

    LMAO ^^

On another note, I seriously for the life of me cannot understand why girls think that taking pole dancing classes is going to help them make money in the strip club. It's not!

^^ I think maybe its a confidence thing, more than anything. The thought of getting on stage terrifies them, and so they think that if they have proper skills and a routine they can do, they won't have to do the scary "winging it" approach. Which is great until you get to the club and get on stage once or twice, and realize you didn't need the lessons!

The spring loaded poles like the ones at Spencer's are NOT made for intermediate and advanced tricks, just posing. In other words, you shouldn't even think about doing inverts on them. I actually wrote the CEO about this years ago... I think they need to put something all over those boxes stating they are not for inverts.

Look for something like a used Lil Mynx online... should run you about $150 used if you find one on Craigslist.

I agree with this. I took pole classes for myself and to learn pole spins and tricks since I always thought it'd be amazing to do them on stage and have a great preformance. But as for making money and getting guys into the VIP, no way it helps, this is why I dont understand why girls take those classes to think their going to make money because they took "stripping classes".

We actually have one girl, whom took the same classes as me (not with me) I realized when, I saw her do 4 certain things, we learned in that class ( as stripper moves - instr even suggested if we strp to do them on stage!!), and no it did not look sexy, and I have never seen a girl do them on stage before.. it looked ike she was working out and trying to find balance more than dancing. This is why i find them a waste of money

Sales classes and investing classes... now there's a class worthwhile.

50 bucks ain't bad though, and besides, poledancing is the fun side of stripping! Not to mention the great shape you'll get in learning pole tricks.

Welcome to the dark underbelly of society, muahaha!! Haha I'm just kidding, we're all pretty nice.
