    Thumbs down Simple computer question.

Howcome when I download a program/software, it shows up on all user names on my computer? Is there a way to get around that?

I downloaded my MFC software and I only want it to show up on my own name. And yes, my name is the administrator on the computer. And when I go on the other names and try to delete it, it deletes on my name as well.

    Help!

It didn't give you the option when you installed the program?

Not that I remember Maybe try unloading it, then redownload it to double check? I'm using Windows 7 btw....if that matters.

Well, if you rightclick an icon or the choice on the menu you should have a delete choice removing the link that the other users have to get to the program. Have not used WIN7 yet though.

You cannot restrict a Program Download to you only...it has to go onto the 'C' disc on the Computer whoever is using it.

However, you can restrict who can access and actually use the Program - by using something like a system control tool.

You might like to look at Microsoft 'Steady State 2.5' which is an Administrator operated Control System for shared computers. It works for Windows XP, XP-Pro, and Vista (all Versions). At the moment there is no support planned for Windows 7, although it is free, so you could download it and try it out anyway..

    Details:

    Download:

You can also look at 'User Restriction Software' by PC Home Software. This should work on all Windows 'OS' from XP up to Windows 7.

It allows you to restrict access to Display, Network, Passwords, Printers, and System. You can disable your boot keys, DOS programs, Registry editing and network access. You have got an ability to hide your desktop icons, individual drives, Start menu items and the taskbar features, it enables you to stop others from tampering with your desktop.

Aaaah, windows. Most program installers do not take advantage of the "recent" features o the more advanced Windows OS.

If you open C: and look into "Documents and Settings" you will see directories like "Administrator", "All Users", "Guest", and ones for all your log-in names. Inside those directories are more directories with names like, "Cookies", "Desktop", My Documents", "Start Menu", etc. Inside the Start Menu on all these login name directories, you will find shortcuts (many of them being in "Programs" directory) for items shown in each Start button for each login name, some being the same and others being maybe unique. Since they are only shortcuts, you can customize each login user's Start menu by deleting those you don't want any particular login user name to have. A special case are the "Default User" and the "All Users" Start Menu directories. "Default User's Start Menu has shortcuts for the basic items Windows sets up like Accessories shortcuts. "All Users" Start Menu is where programs put shortcuts where those program's installers do not ask which users should have Start Menu access to its programs. This may be where you can remove the shortcuts to program you do not want to appear in the Start Menu. If they aren't there look in the login users Start Menu and remove them there. Just remember that if a user has access to C:\Programs, they can start most any of them. So the Start Menu is just a convenience, not a way to prevent access.

    Hope that is clear.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
