    Default Aloe Vera Juice/Gel

Does anybody use this? I've heard it's a really good all natural laxative if you drink it, but besides that I'm not sure of any known health benefits. Also, does anyone use the juice or gel on their body or face? If so, how do you use it? Do you put it on directly from the leaf, cut the leaf and drain it then dilute it with water, or do you buy it pre packaged? I'm really curious because I am noticing more and more aloe vera juice in my beauty products.

Just posted a big long blablabla thing about this in the body cream thread.. Sorry!

But I have been drinking it and while it tastes like ass, it really does make you feel awesome. I've mixed a concoction of Aloe Juice, wheatgrass juice and some clementine freshly squeezed and that makes it taste good enough to choke down. It's an anti inflammatory and really helps my stomach, what with the whole gluten thing. If you google "aloe vera juice health benefits" there's a million interesting things out there.

He also talks about it in that book I posted about. It's worth looking into.

It tastes like CRAP!!! Seriously, it tastes like poison, I couldn't drink it!

I think drinking the juice in a jug from Whole Foods may taste much better!

^^^I wish I had gotten to that point! Trying to peel off the thick skin to get to the goo was so hard. I only tried a small piece, I barely got any goo in my smoothie.

I've been getting mine pre-packaged from Walmart (Fruit of the Earth brand). It's like $7-$8. They have a huge jug of it down in the first aid aisle (it's by the epsom salts and whatnot). I tried drinking it once, and omg the taste was ew. I just use it externally. I mix it up with some different oils to help thicken it (depending on what I have atm: jojoba, grapeseed, olive), since it's runny like water in it's juice form. Not as good as the real thing but for daily everyday use, it works ok.

I'm going to have to come back and make sure this post made sense. I am a scrambled egg. Must go to sleep.

Ive been drinking the pre packaged stuff for 2 months now its great, my hair is growing faster and my skin is smoother and yes it makes me go to toilet more reg.
The first month I broke out a little not much but now my skin looks great.
It does taste funny but im used to it now, I think the real raw juice would be better but I just use the bottled one cos it's easier.

My mom used to make us eat aloe vera when we were sick as kids. I think I remember something like you're supposed to cut off the bitter membrane (I think I remember it being kind of orangy in color?) and then your left with a slimy little piece that doesn't taste terrible, but doesn't taste good either. We had several AV plants, and she'd just cut off a stalk. If you slice the skin off the stalk, kind of like peeling a cucumber, but do it and thicker sheets, you can get most of the membrane off IIRC. It's been a looong time since I've seen it done.

I don't know what was so bitter about it, I guess it was the skin!

The membrane is what's bitter. Tastes like poison mixed with death.

JD, I want to first thank you for all the information you post about fitness. You are very knowledgable, and I appriciate it!
I drink a brand called George's Aloe Vera, it looks like water and is totally tasteless. The massage therapist I used to go to told me about it because it helps with all types of imflammation in the body, I was having a horrible time with my knee, and both wrists for the pole. I have been taking it for over a yr now, and have results. I like this brand in particular because it has no taste. THe other one Lotus something or other that I tried tasted absolutely horrible. I chug down 2 mouthfuls everymorning straight out of the bottle. Hope this helps, and thank you again for being such an inspiration, I have struggled with eating disorders, and your posts have shown me that food isn't the enemy. Love the chicken tortilla soup by the way!
