I think they already had enough regulations in place. All this is going to do is drive the trade underground. There is already a state sanctioned eradication program as well.

FUCK!!!!! Such bullshit. This is going to fuck up so many people's lives.
With so many pets eaten lately, it has fucked up so many people's lives.
So what happens if they find one? Do they kill it or relocate it out of state? And if they relocate all the pet pythons out of state, theoretically won't the other states have the same problems that caused the python ban in the first place?
Funny that this was posted today, I actually just watched a show on pythons today and last night there was another show on. The pythons are getting out of control in the Fl everglades and they are starting to move into residential areas. They are also getting huge! The problem is they have no natural predators in Fl so they don't have any threats, they just grow and eat. The python numbers are getting so out of control they are also worried about the ecosystem being completely thrown off.
Also, people who get them as pets don't realize just how big they can get and so people release them into the wild where they just keep multiplying.

I'm in favor of stringent regulations. These snakes are not for everyone. But the economy is already bad enough as it is, especially with the oil spill.
Depriving people of their livelihoods is not a solution.
I fully support the sanctioned eradication programs of the wild populations. I DO NOT support responsible owners being deprived of the right to own exotics.

I live in Florida and while I'm not usually for bans, I'm ok with this. There are a lot of responsible snake owners...but unfortunately, there are too many that just release their snakes once they get too big, and they are wreaking havoc on the ecosystem in my state.
I am waiting for the day that some little kid gets attacked in his backyard by a python and killed.

In Indonesia, a teenager was killed by one.

Eradication alone is just STUPID; it is like increasing the supply of insulin instead of trying to prevent diabetes in the first place.
What I wonder is if the alligators eat the pythons or the pythons eat the alligators. LOL
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

What? the pet shop owners and suppliers?
The owning is not the issue directly. It is the irresponsible behavior of some. In a sense it is like drinking-king and driving; it is the irresponsible ones that cause the stringent limits. Or even people to have to lock their homes and cars. It is a fact of life that we cannot escape merely because we would wish to.

I agree. Irresponsible people have caused a HUGE problem here that is throwing the ecosystem into chaos and endangering several native species.
I'm for mandatory microchipping of anyone who owns a pet like this. So if it gets dumped...the person responsible can be traced back and prosecuted. Its the same with iguanas here..and many other non native species that a-holes get as pets, them just let go when they dont want them anymore.
Dont get me wrong...I keep birds that are all non FL(and US for that matter)natives and I would get them microchipped if a law went through with no argument. Even though I will never in a million years let them go. I've had my old man for almost 20 yrs...they are my babies(they just got spaghetti for lunch and when they are done they will come out on their giant $400 perch tree to play. Spoiled? Maybe...but I love all my babies..feathered, furred...permanent or fosters)
They try. Doesnt work very well.

Ughhhhh nobody has jumbo rats. I had to serve chicken for dinner instead. :-p

i had no clue FL had such a problem with pythons! i am sure there r better ways then simply banning the private purchase of them altogether. unfortunately this also screws over responsible owners. like CKXX stated, maybe there should b a more stringent pre-screening or micro chipping that is required. that still sucks for responsible pet owners, but unfortunately a lot of ppl r just not responsible in general.
^Be careful about that "something small, like a corn".
My corn snake has officially reached 6 feet, and is still growing. They never show corns full grown in pet shops, but they can get pretty big lol.

I have 2 burms, 4 retics, and 4 red tail boas. The retics are the longest snakes in the world. My boas are the mellowest out of the bunch. My biggun is my burmese, Lillith. She's about 9 feet and eats either 4 jumbo rats once a week or 2 chickens a month.
Usually I feed chickens during the spring and summer and switch to rats and guinea pigs during the winter.
Which is bigger, the nile or Savannah monitor? I wanted to get one, but my bf almost had a kinniption fit.
Also what kind of bedding do you use? Cypress mulch is the best invention since sliced bread! :-D

Niles are bigger than Savs. Savs only get to be about 4 feet, but MY GOD are they high maintenance. They require very specific conditions and a shit ton of space. I use a mix of play sand and soil for his substrate because they love to burrow and it keeps his humidity at the right level.

Have you looked online? Here's one person advertising surplus rats for sale or trade:
http://www.reptileauctions.com/surpl...auctiondetails
He's asking $2.50 for jumbo rats

Thanks for the post, Eagle. I'm going to email him because he doesn't specify if they're prekilled or live. The kids prefer live.
Unfortunately it gets a bit messy satisfying their culinary preferences when poultry is involved. Things turn a bit "fowl" if dinner decides to run. :-p

I love my python. he is on a tank with a screen top with locks on it. I would never ever release it out in the wild if he got too big, donate him to a zoo, maybe. He is just under 3 feet long, he is still a baby.
