    Default Coffee snobs unite

Any real coffee snobs here? People who have to grind it fresh every morning? Can't settle for the swill that passes for coffee at those popular coffee places?

I get my coffee from The Roasterie by mail: http://www.theroasterie.com

I get various coffees from them, but my favorite and regular brew is their Full Vengeance Dark Blend, cause I like my coffee like my women: strong and black:

    http://www.theroasterie.com/Coffee/C...1/Default.aspx

It's ground fresh every morning, and made in cuisinart coffee maker:

However, the best way to make great coffee is to use a French press, such as:

    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...t_adv_XASD0001

I use the French press on occasion (as it's by far the best tasting coffee method in my view) but use the regular coffee maker because it's easier and regular intakes of un filtered coffee raises cholesterol in some people:

French Press does rock. Im too lazy to bother, though. I just grind my and then use my Capresso (sp) Espresso maker. But unlike you, I don't like strong dark coffee-I have to add plenty of milk and sugar. Light and Sweet for me!

I loooove black coffee, I think sugar and cream just messes it all up.

I do like the high quality stuff, but I must admit I also LOVE the coffee at the Waffle House. I don't know why, it's just tasty.

I use to have a pot of coffee by myself everyday. Dark roast. Or I would mess with flavored coffees like french vanilla or chocolate. But I had to give up coffee altogether. It gives me horrible heartburn.

So now I just have hot chocolate with a Creme Brulee creamer lol. ^_^ I like messing with the tastes.

Could have said "black and bitter like my women" but that would be mean.

It MIGHT be because one of my best friends works up there and always gives me free coffee when I come in. Might be.

I've been drinking coffee since before I could even walk. I'd shimmy across the coffee table when I was crawling and steal my mom's black coffee and drink it all down. Been a coffee lover ever since.

My dad usually just buys Maxwell House or Folgers and I don't mind that. I grew up with it, so it'll always be like a "soul food" for me (soul drink?). But there are plenty of other gourmet coffees that I love.

I'm also quite partial to Panera's coffee. Around here they always keep it very fresh and let you know when the last pot was brewed. I always get a mix of 2/3 dark roast, then top the rest off with their hazelnut roast and drink it black!

I once bought $48 a pound Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee from Gloria Jean's in Colorado Springs.

Here is my take on it: $48 coffee processed through a $20 coffee maker tastes like...well, like it was processed by a $20 coffee maker.

French Press really is the way to go!

Here in Vegas, the casinos serve Douwe Egberts Coffee, which is quite good for commercial grade grind.

When in Vegas try Bouchon at The Venetian (coffee stand in front of Phantom theater) or Nordstrom coffee (Fashion Show Mall)...both quite good!

I do 'ruin' my coffee with cream and sugar though.

The best thing about moving 'south of the border' has been the greater availability of very good quality green coffee beans from nearby Colombia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua at unbelievable prices. I roast my own ( I'll never give up my love for the 'New York' roast ) and my Capresso Therm always winds up making at least 3 grind and drip pots a day ( just for myself ! )

There's no way that I can handle 'chipmunk' coffees though !

I am surprised that nobody raised some of the Starbucks brands. Some of them are crappy but the Sulawese, French Roast and Espresso blends are very good IMO.

We grind and brew fresh in my office each morning. Costco is now selling bulk French Roast beans - very nice.

I don't doubt that ! No good Guatemalan coffee shows up over here either and I'm, what, maybe 100- 200 miles away from Guatemala's coffee region ? Of course I'm shopping in a 'duty free' zone too ... don't know if that has anything to do with Guatemalan coffee or not.

So uh need a renter? (Big Smile)
no but you're welcome to all the free coffee you can drink before sundown, and all the Margaritas you can drink after sundown LOL ! Just be prepared to GTFO when the next millionaire's private yacht floats into the harbor !!!

why do you guys sugar and cream messes it up? i think its brutally nasty without it? or maybe I need to stay away from the cheap typical shit?
Some coffee beans, when properly roasted and ground, result in coffee so fantasic you think you have died and gone to heaven. But other coffee beans, and/or improperly roasted and ground, results in coffee so awful you think the coffee poisoned you and you have gone to hell. IMHO distilled spirits and coffee both have this trait in common. And IMHO cream and sugar being added to coffee serves the same basic purpose of juices and sodas being added to distilled spirits ... as a taste disguise for 'bad' product !

I am surprised that nobody raised some of the Starbucks brands
^^^ every Starbucks coffee I have ever tried was too 'chipmunky' for my taste ! However, I did discover that you can get a very good result 'on the cheap' by mixing two other 'supermarket' brands ... 50% Dunkin Donuts plus 50% 8 OClock !

I guess my key issue with coffees is that, between the particular varieties of beans that grow best in different regions, and the climates / soils of those regions being different, coffees originating from different regions / countries / continents can and do taste vastly different. And besides the differences in 'pure' beans from different regions, outfits like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts then inject the additional variables of blending different beans from different regions together. They then top it off by roasting the beans differently - which can also have a major effect on how the (same) coffee tastes. This is what prompted me to start buying my own green beans and doing my own roasting / blending in the first place.

And ultimately, my New York trained taste buds are all about Colombian Supremo ( which is everywhere down here ) and Hawaiian Kona ( which is impossible to find down here - but I can find it easily across the border in a Mexican WalMart ! ).

Best drip coffee maker I ever used was the Capresso with a gold filter. The gold filter seems to allow more flavor by not masking it with leachates from the filter paper commonly used. Even with premium beans, that was never comparable to the best coffee in a few restaurants. The best coffee beans are Jamaican Blue Mountain, which are very difficult to get now. I hate burnt-flavor over-roasted coffees like Starbucks beans or in their outlets. Usually the best coffees I commonly find in grocery stores are from Dunkin' Donuts, but the better deal is to buy it in their stores. I sure miss my JBM!

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I'm drinking some stuff I got at the Mexican grocer here. It's really not bad.

Although, I have to agree with melonie; good coffee that's not over proccesed,or over roasted tastes like a dream, and does not need milk or sugar. To add anything to coffee of that caliber would be a crime.
