Default Before getting on the pole?

So I know a few basic spins, basic v-invert and how to hold myself with my thighs on the pole.

I was practising today, I barely can do the v-invert unless I kick like I mad man in the air, and tried the hold with just my knees and fell. So these are basics really and I have been trying for a month to get the right and nothing. I dont know what I am doing wrong. So Im wondering what you girls do or need in order to perform tricks? Such as,, I know upper strength is a major role.. but what else? And how often do you practise on whatever you need?

You need some ab strength. The part where you "kick like mad" is where your abs come into play. I kick pretty hard too but some girls do it so easily-looking...it's cause their abs are really strong. Try doing some pole situps.

    Off the pole:
Planks (front and side), Push Ups, Tricep Dips, all help make inverts easier.

    On the pole:
Slow Fan kicks, all your basic spins, pulling up into invert with straight V and pike legs from the floor will also help.
I woudnt advise an invert til you can spin one handed, even flying one handed spins like Reverse Grabs come first.

If ya kicking up, it means ya may not be strong enough yet, and your ribs and spine might end up paying for it. xx

^How long does it take to build up that kind of strength? I'm assuming months and months...

Depends how much you have to lift (body type), how much you practise, and if you do any resistance work off the pole. Even basic spins build stregnth.

Also depends if you are doing right, you dont wanna have to take time off the pole because of strains, aches, and creaks then have to start from scratch again.

agree =) if you're kicking into it like a mad man, then the V all ur gonna do is pop back out anyways because you're putting too much force into it. to invert with out kicking you pull with ur arms, and then use your core to tuck your legs up, and let your head drop back. you keep your head up and its just gonna force the rest of your body to want to come back down. thats where the fan kicks come into play. its the same pulling and tucking of your core that will help you get up.

as for then holding yourself with your knees ~ practice low first =) thats how i learned, because im 5'8 i was terrified of falling from so high that i started low ^^ the grip is going to be pretty much the same grip that you climb with, your ankles, the weird meaty parts of ur knees and ur thighs. so when you bring your legs in after your inverted V you want to pull and flatten out your body against the pole and have that same grip with your feet as the climb, once you feel it you should be able to hold yourself upside down with no hands.

I've only been dancing for one month this summer, completely out of shape before I was, and I can already pull myself up, do an invert, inverted V, and one-handed spins.

And I DON'T work out AT ALL outside of work.

What move are y'all calling an inverted V? Is that where you grip with hands far apart and kick upside down, pretty much only holding on with your hands?

    No, I think thats a Handspring/Cartwheel.

Inverted V/Tip Over V/End-Over is a baseball grip invert, put your ass where your face was and your face where you ass was and straddle the legs off the pole, either side of you.

Ill try and find a pic

do you guys believe that some people just have a natural talent regardless of weight and fitness? I feel like for some it comes soo easy and naturally whereas others have to really train hard (like me) to even learn basic stuff. How long did it take everybody to really get good?

I believe some people either have the best body type/size. Which is a good leg length to spine length so they have less weight to lift with thier torso. (think, short size 6 (uk 8 ) type person)

I beleive some people are born stronger.

I have a student who is very tall (and slim) but has one hell of a solid core, no back bendiness, but her middle is like a brick and deadlifting her long legs is easy for her.

I dont have the best body for pole, my legs are longer than they should be for my spine length, my back is very bendy and my core has always lacked stregnth. I can deadlift easily now but it took a while.

i like to think everyone is different. were not all cookie cutter. our body types are diff, how we learn is different, our fitness levels are different, not everybody is the same.

my myself have been learning for 2+ years and theres ALOT i cant do and theres girls that just came in maybe 3 months ago and are already doing hardcore moves but then again she also has how many years of gymnastics under her belt

as to where i have some dance on my side so thats my strong point rather than the tricks

so yea dont beat yourself up over it just keep trying =D and when you do get it, the feeling is AMAZING!!
