Default My New & Improved Diet Thread...

Lol I'm gonna try this again... Hopefully this time I will actually stick to it! I'm trying to make the majority of my diet consist of fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. It's just hard to do the latter because I won't have access to eggs and fish for like, two weeks(the next farmer's market I'll be able to go to) and I just don't know where else to get healthy grass-fed non factory-farmed meat.

So far today I had a smoothie made out of red kale, about half a banana, raspberries and water. The raspberries gave a nice distracting tang to the smoothie, I'll be using that recipe again. I'm going to try to use less and less water in my smoothies too, I read recently that not drinking a lot of water/liquids around the times of your meals helps you better absorb the vitamins and minerals in the food you're eating and overall "enhances digestion."

I drank a few cups of raw milk and am oven-roasting some corn on the cob which I will cover with butter. I'm gonna make some guacamole from scratch and I got these great whole wheat crackers to go with it...I just hope they don't taste like ass. I have real peanut butter too that I'll eat with my Ezekial bread. So I'll be getting in some natural fats but still not as much as I'd like. I'm really gonna have to try and find some good meat around here.

Things I got from the co-op today. Like, 98% of their stuff is commercial.

Made my guacamole from scratch and it was soooooooo good! The crackers---not so much. Not for guacamole anyway.

Girl we eat very much alike!! I'm a weston price freak LOL. I'm pretty sure I posted about that in your other diet thread as well Good going girl!

You should get the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon if you don't have it already. Tons of great recipes and info in there.

Ugh it was going great until my fucking family got here(finally leaving in 2 days!!!). I was doing good until we went away to Disneyland for a few days...if you want to eat healthy there(to my standard) the only option is to bring your own food! I learned the hard way.

I am definitely going to look into that book Juliette!

Dumped the fam off at the movies(HALLELUJAH) and ran out to grab a few provisions:

Trying almond butter for the first time ever...it's okay. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Also trying raw cheese for the first time, comes from the same company that my raw milk does. Lemons for my kale shakes, their bitterness overpowers the kale bitterness(which I hate).

Another poster introduced me to him and I am in love!! Definitely life-changing. I'm currently searching for an orthodontist that works with ALF appliances.

I figured out a tasty healthy dish for myself, chicken fajitas! I use the healthiest chicken I can find sauteed in olive oil, Ezekiel tortillas(sprouted whole grain), diced red onion and loads of cilantro. I'm gonna do this with beef too.

Got a bunch of goodies at the farmer's market, and I'm gonna start adding rainbow chard(I'll admit I bought it because it was so pretty!) to my kale berry shakes.

LOL, I make those same fajitas with beef! They're great! Try rubbing them with spices like chili powder, crushed red pepper, cinnamon, cayenne, whatever! I also make a guacamole with avocado, cilantro, cucumber, lime juice, and red onion to go on them with the ezekiel tortillas (which are awesome!)

I also love rainbow chard! It's yummy, and shrinks up really fast if you cook it.

MMMMMMMmm that seasoning combo sounds yummy. I make my guacamole like you do except for the cucumbers. I'm surprised how yummy the tortillas are, Ezekiel bread of course is delish but my God their pasta is terrible.

Had 3 farm eggs and a slice of Ezekiel bread for breakfast, just had a big kale, rainbow chard and strawberry shake for brunch. No clue what I'll bring with me to work tonight. There's so much sitting around involved that it's very easy to start mindlessly munching out of boredom. I know I'm bringing leftover fajitas but I know they won't hold me. I'll have to stop by Von's and get some fruit.

I gotta remember to buy a good protein shake too.

I wish I knew why eggs make me nauseated..... *sigh* they're probably the best source of protein you can possibly eat, but they don't mesh will with my body I guess.

^^^How weird! Everybody's got something right? I just ate three more with a piece of Ezekiel bread. I had two protein bars last night at work, not the best choice but I guess not the worst. I was in a pinch! I also had 2 bananas and 2 chicken fajitas.

I've only tried that one kind, tastes like any regular mild cheddar. Raw milk tastes like pretty regular milk to me too.

Instead of olive oil, you might want to use something like coconut oil or grapeseed oil for high-heat cooking. Fats change when they reach a certain heat...they become...unhealthy.

I've never noticed any offending flavors, unless you're making something delicate. I tried making my own mayonnaise with it once, and that didn't go so well. But you shouldn't have a problem using it in anything else. It has a higher smoke point than olive oil.

Though there isn't as much of a difference as I expected. Check out this table: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_point

I was under the impression that coconut oil was ONLY ok when raw. I thought that whatever fats made it so healthy broke down when heated, so you really dont want to use it for cooking. and if you do eat it you want to make sure you are getting coconut oil that hasnt been tampered with or heated ever.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

That's what I thought too..... I like grapeseed oil, but it sizzles more, almost like frying grease, if you know what I mean. I actually just use the smart balance cooking spray, and only a tiny amount, when needed.

Yes, I was surprised to see that on the graph I linked to up there. I guess I was wrong.
