    Default Wedding dress donation

Does anyone know where I can donate wedding dresses to brides in need?

I just got married and had two wedding dresses - one for the ceremony and one for the reception. After being so completely selfish, I want to do something worthwhile with them and give them to two brides who are not as fortunate as I am.

Everywhere I look for dress donations they are going to resell the dress and use the money for a charity. That's fine, but that means some bargain shopper buys it for half of what its worth, and almost no money goes to charity. I would really rather make some bride's special day even more so with a beautiful gown... but I can't find anything like that. If anyone knows of an organization that helps underprivileged brides - or has other creative ideas for how I can donate it to a bride - please let me know.

How about Craigslist? that way you get to decide who the dress goes too.

Is that common to have two wedding dresses? I know several charities that take long dresses for low income girls to go to prom, but not sure about wedding gowns. For some reason I think there is a charity like that, but can't remember the name.

Trem - I thought about Craigslist, but I am not sure how to avoid getting scammed. How could I list free wedding dresses so that someone doesn't pretend to be in need?

Kellydancer - it's not common, I've mostly only seen it on TV (as opposed to weddings of friends and families). But I love dresses, clothes / fashion is my hobby, and I couldn't choose just one. I know it sounds super selfish but it was my only bridezilla moment, the one thing I did without concern for what anyone else thought.

Aw thats such a sweet thing to do...

As someone mentioned craigstlist... post a price on it (less scammers) or put it on a friendlier site that also does sales.. I find craigslist a waste.

You could always save for a friend, or a family member?

Other than that I cant help, but what you're doing is really nice!

You might try speaking with the leaders of some of your local churches...
Maybe they know of some young couples who don't have a lot of money who have upcoming weddings?

Pussyinboots - thanks and we are!

DesuvsDeath - great recommendation, thank you. Another friend made it and that's what I ultimately decided to do. Church's are in a good position to give it to someone who is genuinely in need and I am confident that they will find someone to share it with for me.
