    Default I am bunion free!

I had two bunions...HUGE, the doctor called em WHOPPERS. LOL I have always been self conscious about my feet, and could never wear pretty heels because it looked like I had a 6th toe! Not to mention they are quite painful.
So I finally took the time to had the one on my right foot, the biggest one, removed. I was put to sleep --was sooo nice-- and could only hear what was going on--quite entertaining, but I was too out of it to participate. My doctors were funny. LOL Anyway... They cut out the bone, well, shaved it down, broke my big toe, placed a screw in it, and stitched it back up. I stayed in recovery about 30 minutes and left. For about 2 hours my foot was so numb from the block, that we even stopped at a car lot and test drove a car I wanted...then headed to the pharmacy for my Lortab 7.5 2T q4-6 hrs prn pain. Once we got home I was in excruciating pain.I couldnt go to the bathroom because that meant my foot was not elevated anymore, and Tony tried and tried to help me, all I could do was scream and cry. But I managed and have been sleeping out here on this couch with my foot elevated on the back of the couch for 3 nights. Tony is so uncomfortable sleepin on the couch, but he slept right next to me, which was quite comforting for me. 3 days post op, doc unwrapped my foot yesterday and I saw for the first time. It looked like SHREK! lol Very very swollen, and orange from the Betodine.... (?) But doc said its healing well.
The girls have been very helpful...and poor Ahrie saw me getting sick --because no appetite, but still was taking pain Med-- and freaked out and called Tony at work and said hurry up come home my mommy is sick. They are very sympathetic, and dont complain about all my requests for help. They think its quite funny.

I cant wait to finally wear my sexy heels and not feel like people are lookin down at my huge bump and crooked toe. BUT--before that happens, I gotta get the left foot done...

I must say...using crutches is surely goin to tone my left leg and left booty cheek. Try bathing, washing ur face, doing ur hair, brushin teeth, doin make-up...all on one foot. YAY! LOL
Well, thats my bunionectomy story! lol Obviously, Im excited.

Doesn't it look even weirder to have one fixed and the other still with a huge bunion?

Trem....Im sure it will, but I got the biggest one done first, the left foot isnt so bad. Ill do that foot in September.

J.D. ..How long did it take you to heal? I am 4 days post op, and even though I felt like I'd NEVER walk again, today I am actually able to get around without crutches, bearing weight only on the side of my foot and heel. And I only took 2 Lortabs in 24 hrs, rather than the 2 i was taking every 3 a few days ago. I cant stand the sandal, IDK what its even for. But since Im going to Walmart, I guess I better put it on to keep this dressing clean. I'd like to know how you healed and what you went thru, because now Im clueless!

What exactly ARE they? My mother has huge disfiguring ones and I see that the big toe on my right foot is out of line with my other toes, especially compared to my other big toe. I don't want to get these suckers!

Its just when ur bone either from genetics mainly, and worsened by narrow shoes, pushes outward, which in turn pushes ur big toe inward. when I had surgery, he shaved off all the bone, broke the 1st metarsal (sp?) bone to straighten out my big too a lil bit.

Im thinkin I was tryin to get ahead of myself by being up and walking around. not feeling pain doesnt mean im not doing damage. so i got what i needed in walmart --in the scooter eeeee!- and then came home to elevate and ice. ughhhh so boring.

Zinaida---these things are pretty much genetic. if ur mom has it, chances are you will develop. ive had em for years, and finally got sick of it last month when i couldnt wear these kick ass heels because my bunion was too big. my mom had them too....

Did they re-align your second toe or do any other procedure besides shaving and breaking the bone of your big toe to make your foot look better as a whole?

JD....The surgery was free for me, I have Tricare Prime.(military)

London...He didn't need to realign my second toe. He shifted my big toe, but only slightly, so as to not leave a huge gap between my big and second toes.

I couldnt tell through the swelling, but it definitely looked much better already when I saw it 2 days post op.

They can also fix other problems, like a crooked second toe, I think they call it a soft tissue release. I had to have that whole bone connected to my big toe and running down my foot broken, and they put a metal rod into it to straighten it out! I have a huge scar, I hate it! I still need my other foot done too

Soooo when ur doc tells u to elevate elevate elevate elevate and ice ice ice ice!!! Follow orders...even if ur foot doesnt hurt anymore.

My foot is a lovely shade of purple.

I am now elevated with my bag of frozen peas, and following orders like I should have the FIRST time.

    :/ Guess I'm hard-headed.

Gosh nobody is concerned bout my bunion..lol This post was on the 3rd page!

ANYWHO...Im healing pretty well now, back in flip flops...kinda sorta not what the doc feels is best, but oh well, i feel fine. (Im pretty damn stubborn and hard headed, WHICH is why I DON'T complain about pain or anything to doc...because he told me so)
Anyways, one of my stitches opened up a little early. So las Wednesday they told me to keep em in for another week. So I changed my gauze last night, and got a close look at it, and its gross. Like, I can literally see down into the incision. Soooooo I wonder how long that will take to heal, without the stitch. ICK. I AM staying off my feet more, once I saw that last night.

Just had to talk bout my foot. That is all.

How are things going with the feet? I assume you're back in heels now.

Was the second surgery a bit easier than the first?

Ive been wearing heels for about 4 weeks now, and I havent worn boring old flips flops in a while!! My feet are perfect.
The second surgery and recovery was PERFECT. I didn't have my girls with me the second time around, they were visiting dad for the summer, so I was able to sit around and elevate...and heal better. I am SO glad I did it!!!
