I just started a new club and I swear every girl there smokes and of course the strippers choice of nicotine... NEWPORTS!

What IS it about strippers and Newports? LOL....

I quit smoking twice. Once, because I was pregnant. The smell of cigs made me incredibly sick so it wasn't hard. But once morning sickness went away, I found myself craving cigs. Started smoking again about a month after my son was born.

Round two. I went on Chantix. It works, but the side effects are scary. Do some research on that if you're interested in taking it. Trouble sleeping, bad dreams, irritability and some pretty weird depressive episodes, it really fucks with your head/mood. BUT it does totally work! If you can deal with side effects and stay on it for the full treatment, you will be smoke free. I was on it for about a month (instead of the 3month prescription) I quit for about 4 months. But of course, after having a few drinks with friends one night, I had a smoke... and it was all downhill from there. Chantix is also pretty expensive if you don't have good insurance (like 150 a month) and some companies may not cover it. But cigs are expensive too, so...

However, I gained about 12 pounds in the 3 months I had quit. Smoking does suppress hunger and burns a small amount of calories, so weight gain is inevitable unless you do something to counteract it, like up your workout routine or cut out soda or something.

    Good luck!

One very important trick to quitting. Tell no one that you are quitting. They will ask you about it all the time, and act like fucking dogs if they think you are going to have one, and that will make you think about it, and want it all the more.

The minute you think 'I can never, ever have another cigarette again as long as I live.', it will make you want a fucking cigarette so bad! It will then be much harder to resist.

The first time I quit, I didn't even tell myself I was quitting! I just kept saying 'I can have a cigarette any fucking time I want. But I have held out a while now, let's see how long I can go with this.' After three days I finally admitted that I had probably quit. If you can go three days, you got it beat.

Also, don't pay any attention to these people who say 'It's cold turkey or nothing!' half of all people who quit do it with some sort of gradual process. Smoke a little less of each cigarette, smoke one less cigarette a day, whatever. I quit a couple times by rolling my own cigarettes, which is economical and fun. They are much healthier than regular cigarettes, especially if you roll little thin 'pin joint' cigarettes like I used to.

The problem is (or was for me), then later you think 'Hey I have quit a long time now, one little tiny puff won't hurt me.' It will. Also if you like clove cigarettes, do not make the fatal mistake of believing they aren't like a real cigarette, and a couple puffs will be just fine. They are worse than real cigarettes because they taste so good. Cloves got me started again numerous times. Danger! Evil! Get back!

Also, wait until after your lungs have cleared out (it'll take a few days for them to cough up all that shit that gets stuck in there), and then start going to the gym a lot. This will have two benefits. One, you will not gain the weight almost everyone else does when quitting. Two, it will release endorphins and that will help fight the chemical cravings your body might still be feeling.

Oh also, sleep a lot while quitting. Your body will be fighting the addiction, but you will be asleep and it won't be so traumatic.
You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.

Free your mind, and your ass will follow.

i smoked for like 3 yrs and quit... i havent smoked in 2 years. except on long carrides to keep me focused and once in a blue moon if im feeling like a bad girl.

i went cold turkey. but it works for my personality. first off, i dont have an addictive personality. cigarettes are probably the only thing i have ever been addicted to (besides money of course) and even that wasnt too hard. Djoser says not to tell people.... for me telling people helped. im one of those people who likes to follow through, so generally speaking if i tell people i will do something then i am more likely to do it.

chewing gum helped. just regular gum. also maybe holding something in your hand. a lot of smoking (aside from the obvious addiction to nicotine) is an addiction to the habit... and the habit uses your mouth and your hand. so if you can find a way to keep your mouth and your hand busy, it will be easier. i think that is one reason why some people really love those e-cigarettes... because it has the hand to mouth part of smoking so the fact that htey are not inhaling smoke is part of it.

had i been smoking longer and gotten more addicted and decided to quit now, i think i would try e-cigarrettes. i mean even if you end up addicted to those it is less damage on the lungs. plus they come in yummy flavors (at least the brand i tried did).
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I wasn't even planning on quitting, I found this website, I quit the next day. It's been about a year and a half smoke free! I used to smoke a pack a day, it was the best decision I ever made, EVER!

If you needed any more incentive, smoking is one of my biggest turnoffs. Same with most every other guy I know.

haha... I have a friend who tried to do this. but he has an addictive personality, so he made this the rule and it backfired severely because he would crave a cigarette, remind himself that he could only smoke while drinking, and then go get a drink so he could smoke. so basically he was still smoking just as much and was perpetually drunk on top of it.

yea i havent seen the commercial. but it pretty much was exactly like that for him. and this kid is drunk enough as it is, but the additional drinks that came with the cigarette cravings was just too over the top lol.

I decided to quit one day, and had to go cold turkey to do it. I put an unopened pack of Marlboros on the nightstand, and told that pack of cigarettes to go fuck itself every night for a year, and I haven't smoked since....

I second the recommendation for whyquit.org. Great site!

I smoked a pack a day for 10 years, but have now been quit for 3 years. My trick is to never cheat. I only focused on each day individually. "I chose not to smoke today". I didn't worry about tomorrow or a month or year from now. The idea of never smoking again is overwhelming, so try not to put yourself through it.

Also, as mentioned, lots of sleep and lots of water help. I also recommend chosing a quit date with the least amount of stress as possible. Breathing exercises are huge. Learn some deep breathing techniques such as is used in yoga or meditation. Taking a moment when the fits get really bad to breath deeply really helps reset the system.

And finally, what really helped me out initially was chocolate, sad to say. Chocolate behaves somewhat similiarly to nicotine in regards to feel good chemicals in your brain. So I bought a large bag of Hershey's Kisses.. and every time I would have smoked, I ate a piece of chocolate. I took a moment to let it melt and enjoy the flavor. By the time I had finished eating the chocolate, the nicotine fit had passed, usually. Of course this has to be counter balanced with exercise or it could contribute to weight gain, but it did the trick for me.

Also remember that it only takes 72 hours for the actual physical addiction to be overcome.. after that its all mental.

Good luck!! Its the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I'm 2 weeks nicotine free today !!!:-) If I can do it , you can do it .... I can only second the comments above, chewing gum , sucking sweets, ice lollies etc helped me a bit, but in the end it comes down to will power.

My opinion on chantix is -Stay away . The research on this stop smoking drug is few and far between , people are killing themselves as a result. It's fair to argue smoking is slow suicide but for those it effects badly , chantix suicide is not so slow !
My opinion on Chantix is not a positive one , but it is of course only my opinion , if it helps some people , great for them .

I'm 2 weeks in and I still want to smoke , but I don't feel like I need to smoke, and that's the big difference....... I also go with the 'just for today' concept , a popular theme stemming from 12 step programs.

    Good luck

I used to smoke two packas a day...quit 12 years ago, and have not cheated once. Things that helped me:

The Smoke Enders book (some good stuff in there)
    Zyban (also known as Wellbutrin)
    LOTS of water
Epsom salt baths (helps pull more nicotine out of your system)

To overcome the mental part, you really have to find a very personal reason to quit. Something that means more to you than the cigarettes do.

I used to smoke and I quit 6 years ago. I took Wellbutrin and I also had the American Cancer Society call me. It was pretty cool, they helped me come up with a plan and alternative behaviors before I quit and then they called me the day I quit and checked up on me a few times after that.

I'm trying to quit now. Finally bought some nicotine gum, and it really helps. It's natural to want to get a buzz at work, especially if it's a hard night and you've gotten turned down for a couple dances for whatever reason. Usually i'd smoke after getting turned down and had no luck. And that happens to us all many times a night. So now i'm trying chewing the gum, it gives a nice buzz. Plus I want to avoid getting lung cancer, and those ugly lines on the upper lip on smokers is really gross and unattractive...they will show up in 10 years or so, and that'll be a ton of money to fill in every few months with painful collagen injections. I've been able to dance in the past without smoking. I think smoking weakens my own emotional toughness and emotions management skills, because I try to use it to "relax" when I can use my own mind to relax. Smoking is like letting your emotional strength muscles atrophy...the less you have to use your emotional strength and calm-down muscles, the quicker you lose them. It's like becoming a baby again.

I took Zyban before and they made me feel like I was losing my fucking mind! Seriously, it was awful. No illegal drug ever made me feel that way. I heard afterwards that loads of people committed suicide while they took them.
