Default Are you superstitious or do you have any weird phobias?

I remember when I first started dancing I had my shoes on the table.
Another girl told me that that's bad luck.
Since then I always make sure my shoes are on the ground.
    Weird, I know.

As for phobias I am deathly afraid of cockroaches. Mainly all hard shelled beatles.
I know a lot of girls are afraid of bugs, but if I even see one on a commercial I have to change the channel. If I see one in real life, I will shake and cry.
I can pretty much just run and scream from "normal" beatles, but cockroaches, omfg...even typing the word gives me the chills.

Spiders though, I'm not scared of at all. I could never kill them. I always try to lead them on to a paper towel and put them outside.

Do you have any superstitions or phobias??

Honestly my only phobia that I can't ever seem to shake...I'm afraid of being dead. Not dying, the life leading up to it or anything just the thought of being dead. It sends me into hours of crying and shaking and telling myself it won't ever change. It's been happening sine I was 5. Really annoying and odd because I am not bothered by gory things, or death or books about it or war...I actually enjoy them, a lot.

Is it the fear of not knowing what will happen when you're dead?
Like will you go to "a better place" or be reincarnated or just be plain old dead in the ground or have your ashes spread somewhere....
That kinda scares me too, not knowing...

Don't laugh...I'm scared to death of crawdads. When I was a kid my cousins used to fish em out of the ditches and put them in my bed. Sucks for me whenever I'm in NOLA and can't enjoy some of the food. Its nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

    As for any conventional superstitions, I own a black cat and my favorite numbers are 13 and 666. }

    A few:
Spiders (pretty common). I used to cry when I saw one, now I use the vacuum. Still can't deal with them without a long hose, but better than I was.

Needles and blood. Everytime I have to get a shot, I have to look the other way. Otherwise I pass out. Blood in the needle freaks me out but not as much. Also, seeing blood at hospitals also makes me creepy. This is why I could never work in any medical profession though it's mostly about me needing a shot or using a needle.

Driving in snow. This one is based on fact. Years ago I was driving to work and it was snowing. I ended up in a minor fender bender and it scared me. Years earlier I was driving with a friend and we were coming home from a club we were dancing at. We were on I-94 and the car literally flipped around. Luckily it was deserted. Now when I get heavy snow I try to take public transportation, get a ride, leave work early, or not work at all.

Bridges. This is a new one that has just happened in the last few years. I hate walking on them, but also hate driving on them, especially if they are slippery due to snow.

I used to have another one: fear of pregnancy. I was terrified of getting pregnant. Now ironically not only has this one gone away, I want one day to become pregnant.

I don't know. I know what will physically happen to me. Drives me crazy thinking about it. And spiritually...I am at comfort with because its not something that gets to me. Strange. I know whats going on...but I can't explain it correctly.

    I fear
    1) Owls, I refused to even consider a certain sorority in college because their representative animal was an owl. They scare me bcause they seem either really smart or really stupid. So STILL. And yet, can expand their wings and swoop on prey at a moment's notice. And their eyes seem to me to be uncomfortably judging or completely, deathly empty.

2)Spiders (most bugs, insects(crickets), even butterflies!) I scream and shake if one enters my apartment or one I visit. Thank G-d I have never had cockroaches, because I would just let them "have" the house. I'd leave until a pest control agent assured me they were gone.

    3) Needles/having blood drawn: Can do it but am usually distressed about it until it is over. Consequently. I can not fathom willingly getting even a tattoo in this lifetime!

    4) People on too many drugs (mainly meth). There was a dancer at an old club who was completely out of her mind on something and her eyes truly frightened me. She started talking to me out of the blue and I got away from her as soon as I could and it still fucked up my whole night. For no reason at all (besides that), I feared for my life around this girl! There was also another girl on ketamine and tons of meth who I nearly encountered outside of the club...can't deal with being around that!

    Superstitions?
Well, weird things tend to happen every full moon, so I like to plan to stay in if I keep track of when one is abounding. Not always anything terrifying, moreso plain out bizarre or wacky. Conversely, I LOVE going out on Friday the 13th and watching horror movies on Valentine's Day.

I've run into a notable amount of dopplegangers of past boyfriends/family members/friends and it always strikes me in a weird way. I never talk to them, just stare! I get awe-stricken...

A lot of people tell me they are scared of snakes, but I own 10 of the little beasties. I have always wondered is it the whole Judeo-christian mentality that gives em a bad rap, or something even older?

The only snakes that scare me are the venomous ones.

One night I was awaken by a fluttering sound, so I turn my light on and there was a bat circling over my bed. That really freaked me out.

Oh me too. Death and dying. It freaks me out and if I think about it I freak the fuck out.

Everyone knows I am TERRIFIED of centipedes. I saw an earwig (sp?) in the bathroom yesterday, my first one ever, and I came out screaming I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THAT IS BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A CENTIPEDE!

Raccoons. Seriously, fuck them, those big scary fuzzy fucks.

Jail. I went for 36 hours and hated it. It terrifies me. Related to this, if vice is ever in the club, I book my shit to the dressing room and hide til they leave. If I am calling in a complaint about my neighbour's noise and they ask to come by, I'm all OH NO THAT'S OK DON'T BE BOTHERED.

Now, I have this huge fear of anything happening to my husband. I see some stupid Lifetime movie where the girl's husband dies and I'm all OMFG G DON'T DIEEE EVER BAHHHHHHHHHHH! and he looks at me like the crazy person I am.

That's it for me, I think.

It's a weird phobia, but it actually has a name. Ligyrophobia: fear of loud, sudden noises. I go in panic mode around balloons because they'll pop, fireworks/firecrackers, cars backfiring, etc. Just scares me to death and I've never been able to shake it.

Snakes. I try to get over it; I'll go to Petsmart and stare at the boas and pythons in their little tanks, but I always shake for like half an hour after I leave. I have nightmares about venemous snakes all the time, and I'll wake up screaming and can't put my feet on the floor for hours.

Losing my teeth. I have nightmares where my teeth will all start to get really loose and basically start falling out one by one, and I freak. My teeth are quite nice, though I'm not OCD about brushing 10 times a day or anything like that. But I've never had a cavity. Whenever I see someone who obviously has lots of missing teeth, or dentures, I get real freaked out. I think it's absolutely disgusting and creepy.

Getting blood drawn, or getting shots. Luckily, this doesn't bother me until they're about to do it, and then I get really cold and shaky and can't watch.

The really, really deep parts in the ocean. You know the part in Castaway, where Tom Hanks is floating on the little raft and the humpback whale came and breached right next to him? That scared the shit out of me. The thought that something that enormous could be two feet underneath you and you would never know it...*shiver* I mean, did you ever think about how many things are between you and the ocean floor? Ugh.

Don't laugh, but I have Theophobia - fear of Religion.

It started when I was a kid. My parents didn't raise me atheist, they just raised me without religion. They wanted me to take religion into my life on my own rather indoctrinate me, and I respect them for that.

Other parents didn't think so highly of that. At school, if I went to spend the night at a friend's house, I'd have parents who would ask me to say grace at the dinner table and then give me the nastiest looks when I just gave them this glazed over "What do I say?" face. Other parents would insist on bringing me to church, or reading the bible to me and my friends before going to bed.

My friends didn't have issue with me not believing, but the parents did (Ironically, most of these friends today are agnostic or atheist)

Around the age of 8 was when I had finally asked my mom why we didn't go to church like all the other kids, and my mom explained why. She told me she and dad were atheists and that if I wanted to believe in God I could, but they asked that I try to convert them or bring religion into the house. So I tried the Church and God and Jesus thing for awhile. After a couple months I just couldn't handle it. After 8 years of thinking on my own with the support of my parents, being told that I had to live for God and maintain all of my actions through God? (NOTE: Your flavor of organized religion might vary, this is just what happened to me) I didn't want that. So I became a non-believer.

But I've always faced ridicule since I'm in the midwest, bible central. I was judged and harassed all throughout middle school, cornered and interrogated by other kids in middle and High school, sneered at, the whole shebang.

Now whenever I drive by a church, hear people nearby talk seriously about religion, listen to someone telling me about church or how God did whatever for them, get asked "Why don't you believe in God after seeing all He's done?", and hell, even seeing religious figures of any kind, I start shaking, break out in a cold sweat, start feeling suffocated, and I have to just GET AWAY.

The ocean seriously creeps me out. I never ever want to go on a cruise or any boat that would take me out on the ocean.

Phobias: TICKS! I will have a panic attack if I see one. There was one on my poor doggie and I thought I was gonna die. Heights. I can climb to the top of a 20 foot pole and hang upside down and do sit ups, but don't even try to get me on Acrophobia or Free Fall or any of those rides, or even stairs with no hand rails. It's a totally irrational fear because I've never fallen off of anything. I think it's because I'm clumsy and I have bad vertigo. Mice. I had pet rats once and I loved them dearly. But we had a mouse in the kitchen once and it ran across my foot and I flipped. Also, what's worse than mice is thinking about killing them. They look too much like my cuddly pets I once had.

Superstitions: The shoes on the table thing stuck for me as well. I also HAVE to wear pheromones. I feel awkward without a 'stripper bag'. I used to have a thing in high school about crossing my fingers obsessively for good luck. I always made wishes at 11:11.

I have the same phobia. Mostly balloons though. I've had this since I was a kid and Later discovered it's because I have an anxiety problem. It's really hard with a child, when he screams or starts crying suddenly my heart starts pounding and I feel sick to my stomach. It's gotten pretty bad. Stress aggravates it for me.
I got a balloon from my sweetie for Vday once. I had to bring it out side and let it go,I couldn't stand it being in the house. Fear of Balloons is globophobia. I hate everything about them, the way they smell, feel the noise they make when you squeeze one,But mostly afraid of them popping. When I was younger I was playing with a balloon and it popped in my face, ever since then-I can't deal with them.

As far as superstitions go-I'm OCD, So I have a lot of them. I capitalize all of my I's and words at the beginning of sentences. I'm OCD about proper grammar)Or my definition of proper grammar),I know that sounds strange, but it's very true. It's really not funny either.
Also, I'm very OCD about what I eat. In High School I couldn't eat in front of anyone..I guess that was a fear of mine as well. I don't know why. I dated this one guy for three years off and on,and he never, not once saw me eat.
    I is a mommy.

i have the massivest biggest phobia of leeches. i had them on me once and threw the biggest panic attack. theyre on you sucking your blood and you cant get them off without salt!!! that experience is something i could do without for the rest of my life.

i am scared of being pregnant but im terrified of abortions. im not a pro life religious person its just my worst nightmare that would haunt my conscience for the rest of my life, my bf of 9 months and i still use pills plus condoms and i have a huge fear of being raped. not even murdered or kidnapped and strangled, but raped.

when someone at the club touches me i sortof rub off their touch on the area kinda brush it off with my hand. very strange. i dont put my shoes on the table either.

i dont like being under really tall structures or above really deep ocean.
but im sure most of these crazies we can all relate to on some level.
