Default Too lazy to work out!~

What do you do when you feel too lazy to work out or get your butt moving? My brain tells me that I must work out but my body is uninterested and unmotivated. I have been doing 1500 crunches a day for 5 days a week for the past year among other stuff. And now I have no desire to do that.

    Hey FemmeFatale88,

I sometimes have the same issue and here are some things I have found helpful:

    1) Keep a workout log- I started a workout notebook about two weeks ago. I write down everything I plan on doing before I go to the gym (divided into categories: Cardio, Legs, Arms, Abs, and sometimes Yoga). I make notes of how I'm feeling before I head down to the gym and I take the notebook with me to the gym to ensure I don't skip anything or forget anything. When I'm finished, I also try to make a few notes as to how I'm feeling, anything I didn't do (and an explanation), and anything extra I might have done.

    2) Check out fitness websites and add some new moves to your routines. I've found some great cardio workouts and ab routines. Variety is key!

    3) I drink a great pre-workout drink from GNC (called NoExplode). At this point, I wonder if it's actually doing anything or just a habit I've formed but 99% of the time, it's tough for me to get to the gym w/out drinking it.

    4) Buy yourself new workout clothes. I love 'em and it makes me happy to get in the gym.

    5) Be accountable. Tell people you're going to the gym. I always feel a little embarrassed if a friend asks how my workout was and I have to admit I didn't make it. Or, (haha!), even if I lie, I know the truth and I feel bad.

    6) Browse through fitness mags. A little time looking at all of those hard bodies motivates me!

    7) Consider your diet. Maybe your diet is making you feel lethargic?

Get a workout buddy. I don't have one because I love "losing myself" in my workouts at the gym but it might help you stay excited if you have a social aspect to your gym visits.

    9) Not sure how the weather is where you live but if it's nice out, maybe move your workout outside? Run, practice yoga, lift lighter free weights, etc. outside in the fresh air!

    10) I always consider how much better I feel when I'm at work and know I had a good workout. Maybe others can tell, maybe not, but my body feels tighter and that is good for mah purse!

If you are just having one of those days where nothing you do is getting you to work out, do whatever you can. I live in a major city and I will go walk around for an hour or more. It's easy to distract myself from my "workout" yet I know I'm still burning calories.

    I hope my tips helped.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I am so lazy, and I can't get motivated. I'm skinny, but I would like to be more toned and healthy. Ugggh I just can't seem to get motivated.

You know, that is one thing that sucks about working out.....

You HAVE to have self motivation, because it takes a while to start seeing results. It's really frustrating to go an hour a day feeling like you're going to puke when you're done, and you're like WTF I look the same! But then once you start noticing, it becomes VERY easy to continue to go.

I recommend getting into a basic and easy routine that can become part of your lifestyle. Keep it simple and don't kill yourself, because then you will just burn out.

I signed up for a kickboxing class which I paid for in advance. Paying for it advance makes me more motivated to go. It's such a good stress buster and I've lost 6 pounds since I started going!

I just do exercise that only requires a few minutes a day to build strength and maintain muscle. It's fun to get the same result with 5 minutes a day that other people spend hours a week attempting to get.

    We are so the same!
I don't really have to work out since i'm genetically thin but i'm a perfectionist and i want to look more healthy/toned. But since i don't HAVE to work out it kills my WANT to work out. Then i kick myself for not doing it. Its an evil cycle!
Plus i don't have access to a gym so everything i do is at home (w/ a toddler running around). I tried a 10min pilates dvd from netflix and i loved it but i just cant consistently keep doing it.

Just clean your house or do your laundry, you are moving and it has to get done anyway.

I'm sorry - HOW MANY crunches???!!!

    Honey, no wonder you're bored!

Go for quality over quantity and vary your routine.

I vary my exercise between gym and dance class so i'm in the gym 3 days and dance class 3 days - dance is fun and social and doesn't feel like working out.

If that's not your bag, switch up your routine in the gym - use the cross trainer as your main cardio one day, treadmill the next, stair-master the next. And when it comes to crunches - seriously, two sets of 30 quality are better than 1500 poor quality. You should be able to hold a conversation whilst you do your sit-ups because you breath control is lined to muscle control - 10 really good sit-ups are so much better than 30 rubbish ones, honestly.

Get a personal trainer if you can afford one, even if only for a few weeks. The main part of their job is to motivate you and they will introduce new elements to your routine that you can then go off and do on your own until you want to change your routine again.

I also find a while watching MTV a great motivator - if you want thighs and abs like those you see in the videos you get em by exercising, not sittin on the sofa! And i know that once i get into the gym and get the first 15 mins done i'll want to stay for an hour anyway.

pullups, deadlifts, squats, sled dragging, sprints. a few minutes of that kind of thing a day. sure, i could be lady hercules doing it 30 mins a day a few times a week, but even 3-5 minutes worth got me to a place where i was steadily increasing strength (able to do more and more weight *and* more reps) and i look at least as 'ripped' as a lot of the people exercising a heck of a lot more than i do.

diet is pretty essential. if you aren't on a diet friendly to that type of exercise, it's less likely you'll see the same kind of results. so i eat high quality whole foods and exercise my little five minutes a day and i can cart around heavy stuff whenever i need to, which can be pretty handy.

There's nothing I could so 1500 time per day for 5 years I wouldn't be bored to death with. It's called changing it up.

I rarely do the same workout twice in a row.

    Everyone is different..
Logging doesn't work for me. At first I'm more motivated, then I end up wasting time i could work out messing around with my log. Plus for me I found out I did better pushing myself to my limits today, not necessarily past what i did yesterday.

What works for me is telling myself I can do 10 minutes, then I'm done. If you get through the 10 minutes you'll most likely keep working out, and if you don't then you did better then nothing. That's what works for me.
And having a workout bud sometimes helps ..

Kind of expensive BUT its been working for me.
Personal trainer that can come to your house? I get mine to come once a week to put me through my paces and she makes me write out what I am going to do for the rest of the week in front of her. The result: If I don't do it I feel bad so that's enough motivation for me!

Bodyrock.tv has a lot of good, shorter workouts including some with tabata intervals which are awesome. I heart interval training. It doesn't take forever and as long as you are pushing yourself as hard as you can you will get great results.
