    Default Chronic Nausea?

I've had issues with nausea and heartburn since I was a kid. I can't swallow pills because of my gag reflex. Breathing cold air makes me wanna puke. Coughing will make me puke. Two beers will make me puke. But here lately, it's been plain old food.

For the past year or two I've been having terrible nausea caused by "overeating". And by "Over" eating, I mean going to a sit down restaurant and eating a quarter of my meal. It seems to only happen at sit down places... I can stuff myself with Taco Bell and be fine, but O'Charley's kicks my ass. I don't eat nearly as much as some people, so I really don't understand this. I've even had this happen with salads. Most of the time it ends with me running to the bathroom in embarrassment. Oh, and it tends to happen more in the summer when the weather is hot.

It's really embarrassing and I think that's part of the problem. I think I get so nervous thinking about puking that I puke. This is why I wonder if it's psychological. When I feel like this I get shakey, nervous, and have hot flashes. Oh god what if it's some kind of repressed bulimia?? I don't like throwing up and I don't want to do it. I try everything NOT to throw up but it just happens.

Or maybe it's a reaction to the greasy food served at some of these places? The first time it ever happened was at Cheeburger cheeburger, and has usually happened at O'Charley's, Applebees, and other chain 'Americana' places. It really pisses me off because I only get to enjoy like, a really small portion of whatever I'm eating.

    Reaction to MSG? Grease? Dairy?

So far it seems to happen at American chain restaurants, sans alcohol, regardless of type of food, mostly in the summer time.

Maybe acid reflux? I don't know too much about it off the top of my head, but some of the symptoms sounded similar.

I googled it and a wide variety of gastro disorders involve chronic nausea after eating. Good thing I have a doc's appointment this week and I can bring it up.

That sounds like a good old fashioned cocktail of anxiety, stress, and over-analyzing. Also high fat content diet. I'd try doing some activities to relax, go outside for a walk, etc etc. Could also be from consuming a high volume of simple carbohydrates, which causes blood sugar levels to spike and drop hence the cycle.

    That's just my two cents.

OMG, I totally had this! I suffered with these nausea, vomiting, cold-sweats, shaking-type episodes for a YEAR before I finally threw in the towel and went to the doctor (I'm poor).

He was a bit puzzled but prescribed omeprazole ( available OTC, thank god) and said if it worked I probably had GERD. I couldn't believe it because I've literally never had heartburn before. However, it seems that sometimes GERD presents as nausea instead of heartburn.

It's been about 3 weeks and I definitely feel better, so it looks like he was right. Also I've stopped eating spicy food and drinking coffee/tea/straight liquor.

    I bet it's acid-reflux related. Good luck!

I bet that's what it is. Like I said it usually manifests in chain Americana food places so It's probably from the damn near toxic levels of grease, salt, sugar, heavy creams, etc.

I have a low renal threshold and spill sugar in my urine. The military thought I was diabetic then I went to a real doctor and they tested my blood and it was normal. Errr actually it was low because the waiting room line was long and I hadn't eaten!
