Search SAVING MONEY - how do you do it?

    hello lovely ladies,

i have a terrible habit of spending money like i would if i still lived at home. i moved out about a month ago and pay 200 rent per week which is about the sum i used to spend at home on shoes, clothing little extras etc. i find it hard to resist buying new things especially lingerie jewellery and shoes so now i have put myself out of circulation of any shopping malls and stores to resist the temptation.

the problem is, i still have 2k credit card debt and im not doing well at work... average about 150-200 per night.

how do i get myself out of this jam?

I'm having the same issue because I stopped doing well when I moved here due to rampant extras in the club, cheap customers, low VIP sales, and poor stage tipping. You just have to live very frugally and consider getting into other lines of work, such as camming, fetish, etc.

You spend less than you make, and put the rest away.

The simplest way is to take a certain percentage of what you make and put it in a bank account before you do anything else. In other words, let's say you make 200 bucks in a night. On the way home that night, put 20 bucks into a savings account via an ATM. If you do that 5 nights a week, then you'll have 500 bucks saved after a month.

Then you just spend the rest of your money.

Once you've got $2000 saved up, pay off the credit card.

And don't use the credit card in the meantime.

    thanks thats a good idea.
i tried doing that before and save a larger percentage and put into my credit card but something would come up and i would have no money and have to use the credit card and then try and make money to pay that off. thank god i didnt ask for a bigger credit limit. its all about self control i guess. a friend of mine spent a year sleeping in living rooms paying 50 per week rent eating 2 minute noodles and working every night and saved up a holiday to malaysia and a laptop.

yeh harleigh i need to make more but i wish to do it in the one industry of SC and maybe some lingerie waitressing but i hear some guys are more horrible at those venues than sc. i could be a dominatrix and beat the shit out of bad customers in the clubs dungeoun. that would be fun. dare to dream...

Do you spend money differently when it's cash vs. credit? If so, then only buy things with cash. It's a good mental trick--when the money is real, it's harder to spend.

Do you have problems spending higher bills? If it's harder for you to spend a $100 bill than a $20, then cash out your money in the highest denominations.

The envelope/brown paper bag trick. Write "This money does not exist!!" on said container, and put away a certain percentage of your money. Or, as suggested above, do this with an ATM.

Set a goal for a certain amount you want to save each month to pay off your credit card debt. Then tell yourself that you can't spend your money until you hit that monthly goal, along with the money you need for rent. Using envelopes can help with this.

Avoid situations where you know you're prone to spending money. Make little cuts in your budget. Instead of going out to get sushi, make some at home. Avoid malls. Instead of going shopping with your friends (if this is a trigger), go out to eat with them.

Stop impulse buying. Rationalize with yourself before you buy things. Play devil's advocate. Let your mother's voice speak in your head. Do you really need more shoes? Gurrrrl, I just bought some like those last week.

Think about how hard you work for your money, and how frivolously you're spending it. These days, I know I work my ASS off for my money, which makes it very difficult for me to spend on things I don't need. Save money for your present and future. Think of how shitty you'll feel if you work your ass off in this job and have nothing but clothes to show for it! Use fear as a similar motivator (credit card debt works well for this!).

That's all that came to mind immediately. Hope it helps a bit!

I suggest not carrying your credit cards with you. Just put them in a drawer somewhere and forget about them. Then figure out the minimum amount of money you need to live on each week, just to buy food, pay rent and utilities, and pay for any transportation to work. Once you make that minimum, use everything above and beyond it to pay off your credit cards.

i know im kind of embarassed that if i quit the only thing i have to show for having done this job is a new wardrobe [i dont recall spending money on anything sensible lately] which is a great eye opener. if i fall sick next week i have nothing to survive on. except selling all my shit on ebay.
my card is maxed so no point in bringin it anywhere.

i dont really spend differently cash or card... or when my credit card wasnt maxed out i was more prone to making larger purchases like hair extensions or a holiday and cash just flies on coffee, bus, sandwich, cigarettes, snacks etc. they both fly out of my hand and i really have to make a conscoius effort to not spend every cent i have. and when i put all the cash away and not take any with me will be the day i need to get a taxi somewhere or somethings broken and needs fixing immediately.
yeah i have a serious problem

My old club used to hold our dance/tipping dollar money overnight, and we'd be paid for feature shows at the end of each week.
Id just leave my money at work, then collect the whole lot at the end of the week, walk across the road and deposit the $.
I lived off the cash tips (when I could)
Money was still decent when I left in Feb (about $50/hr after fees, which was usually half cash tips)
Theres no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake

I'd suggest giving your credit card to someone you trust and tell them "don't give this to me unless it's a dire emergency."

I set aside my big bills (50's and 100's) and put them in my safe. I never spend these, so every time I get a 50 or 100, it goes straight to my savings. I also rubber band my 20's into stacks of $500, so once I get $500 in 20's that goes straight to the safe too, meaning my spending money is usually however many 20's I have leftover. So like if I had $700 in 20's, I'd put $500 away and I'd have $200 to spend for the week. I never take money out of my safe unless it's for bills. This works really well for me.

that sounds good i do that too or at least try to most of the time. i usually spent 5-20 notes unless in an emergency [which i call to food trasport or cigs] i break a 50 and put the remainder back .... or ill spend it coz its all in small notes.

great tips ladies n fellas lets keep it up!
i wonder what else we can all implement into our savings routine.

This is the literal truth where the 20-25-30% of dancer earnings owed to the IRS / state tax agencies is concerned !

    Hey there-

You're doing great by recognizing that you need to make serious changes. I have credit card debt from school that I'm paying off. It feels good to live frugally, save, and pay off debt (and yep you can do all three at once).

Have you ever read any of Suze Orman's books? She has really great advice. I recommend "Women and Money" and "Young, Broke, and Fabulous". Both have lots of small steps you can take to make a huge impact on your finances. I also love that she stresses that you CAN forgive yourself for your past habits and it's never too late to make a change!!

Here are some things I've taken from her books that I hope will help you too:

I haven't gone shopping in a loooong time.

When I work, I wear the same outfit all night and I don't think it affects my earnings vs. the girls who show up with a trunk full of bikinis and change every hour.

Pamper yourself at home! I do my own nails and use wholesale beauty stores for hair color.

My gym is super cheap... I'm basically paying $1 per day to work out.

I bike wherever I can to save on gas.

I pre-make all of my food for the week and put them in tupperware so I can't use the "I don't feel like cooking" excuse to eat out.

My boyfriend and I love the dollar movie theatres for cheap entertainment.

I only spend 1/3 MAX of my income on rent.

I use an online savings account that has a huge return rate. Basically, I make a money order of 1/3 my earnings for the week and then mail it in to the bank. Poof! It's getting kick-ass interest and I can't touch it. Check out bankrate.com to see which bank will give you the best interest rate.

    The list goes on!!

I'm not sure what the cost of living is in your city, but do you have a roommate? If not, you might want to look at a less expensive living situation (with people who respect your schedule!). Also, what everyone else said about putting away your credit card is great advice.

I hope this helps- don't give up! You deserve a great, financially stable future!

Oooh I second the dollar movies idea. I also like downloading free MMOs but I'm a nerd. There are actually some really decent games out there that are totally free. They make money by selling upgrades tp the games or access to cool items etc. Also, There are lots of sites you can stream movies on or download them, so you don't have to pay for them.

Oh and if you have Big Lots where you are, suuuuper cheap. They usually have some good stuff there, including teas, coffees, and energy drinks at like 1/3 of the price of a red bull. Good deals on canned food, bread occasionally (although we go to the bakery outlet, it's even cheaper!) condiments, pasta etc.

Thank you Charlie!! I love the idea of trading in smaller bills for hundreds! I never thought of that before. It will really help me save money. I hate to spend hundreds. Thank you

    Paying everything in cash helps.

I have accounts with two seperate banks and I find it nifty...One bank is my main "go to" bank with my checking and savings account. There I have my primary savings and then in the Checkings account, money for bills and gas. Then at my other bank, the money in my 2nd savings account is emergency savings, then in the 2nd checking account is my "fun money." Or rainy day money. I try not to touch the 2nd bank accounts but i find when i spread the money out like that, it keeps me from spending bc i check one statement and see less than i overall have and it motivates me to save more! I also have my emergency stash at home just incase.

Organizing your money in that sense is helps tremendously because you get to prioritize which account needs "fattening up." The cash I have on hand is for groceries, gasoline, eating out and little things but when I want to make a larger purchase like an expensive pair of shoes, i know which account I can fun it from or if i should hold off on buying them.
