Default Yeast Infection - How Long do I Keep Garlic up There?

So I searched "yeast infections," and found that many of you swore by the garlic method. My YI isn't too bad - I mainly itch at night and in the morning, and I barely have any/if any discharge. The inside of my vag is def bright red, though. I also don't have any other symptoms of what could be mistaken a UTI.

I really want to return to work soon, but I wear an "Instead cup" bc of my usual large amount of wetness - I don't want the cup to interfere/make worse the YI.

My ques: How many hours and how many days do you need to leave the garlic up there?

I first put it up there yest during the day for about 8 hrs. I then "changed the garlic lol" and put a new clove up there for about 10 hrs. I still itched when I woke up, and my vag was still dry compared to its usual self.

Should I keep going the garlic route, or should I get Monistat? I've heard that garlic usually works for YIs that aren't too bad (which mine isn't), so is it possible that it's something else garlic won't help? I've only had protected (condom) sex w the same person in the last 3.5 yrs.

It doesn't sound healthy to me to always wear the cup at work. That sounds like it could cause a yeast infection!

    Monistat really does work!

Cut sugar and take a active culture supplement (in the frige section if the supplements at the healthfood store).

Is the discharge consistent with a yeast infection? The above advice is just for yeast infections.

The discharge is rare, but it is consistent w a YI. According to some sources, YI don't always have discharge (not sure if this is really true or not).

About the cup: I only work about 2 days/week, so I'm def not wearing it too often, but I see your point. I had been wearing tampons, but then read on here about the cup. I'm not sure about it causing YIs, but it is def better than tampons bc it doesn't soak up your, er, natural juices.

About the garlic: There was an old thread on here titled "Garlic up my Twat"...or something to that degree. Many people claimed that it worked really well in the beg. stages of a YI.

I just pop that fucker in before bedtime. Apple cider vinegar helps too. Make sure you dilute the fuck out of it before douching!

    It evens out the ph

p.s. if the garlic isnt working, I'd maybe see a doc.

here is what I do for a yeast infection- douche once or twice, then shove a yogurt tampon up there. If it is really bad I get tea tree suppositories and use those for a few days, then use yogurt. garlic made it worse for me once, not going down that road again...

I heard of the garlic method, never tried it. But if you do want to try it... Do it before bed till morning, or whenever you have time. If I remember correctly, someone wrote you should use 1 glove and use a knife to cut lines on the glove for more improvement and put it in. The hours you mentioned seem fine.

Do NOT; douche, take bubble baths, esp use scented tampons, perfumed soaps and feminine deodorant sprays. As some suggested, do eat yogurt (w/o sugar) aviod sugar, wear cotton undies, or something that will give you air down there. Soap does not do anything for the YI, worst it can do is kill the bacteria you need to for your body to help you with the YI

If you want to save money and feel safe enough try the garlic thing, if you want to spend money go buy the Monistat. I only had one YI and it was 2 days and wasnt too strong, I bought 4 pills but only need one. Used it before bed and next day it was gone.

The pill you get from the doc really works, but it delivers a drug to the whole body when only one part of your body is being affected. You can use a generic monistat, it will work fine.

YI discharge is cottage cheese-like. When I was 18-20 i got them all the time. Even though I haven't had one in 12 years, I remember them WELL.

If you are not having the discharge you may be affected by something else. Are you really itchy? Are you starting to smell really bad down there? I know the smell thing is hard to talk about, but it could be Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacterial_vaginosis

BV SUCKS!!!! If you even think it might be that-go to the doc. Even just drop in at planned parenthood. They will take care of you. There is a lot of info on the web about woman curing their own BV. But, in my experience it will come back if you do this. BV is super uncomfortable and only gets worse (better on your period, but then it comes back).

So I ended up buying Monistat and using the remaining garlic to sautee with spinach. Yum, right lol.

I got the 3 day Monistat, and it itched sooo bad!!

Shasta, no, I don't smell fishy. Also, I'm not really, really itchy. It's weird - I itch in the morning and evening, but during the day, I'm usually fine. Maybe I do itch, but I'm more preoccupied and not focusing on the itch as much (since it's mild).

BV is more ichy than a YI. So it does sound like a classic yeast infection to me. the monistat should work. I prefer the monistat that lets you fill the applicator. Because then you can also use that cream on the outside, and you can just use it till it is gone.

The monistat might itch at first, but relax. It will make you feel better.

The garlic thing sounds like a quack remedy to me.....here's some of 'Grandma's Proven Methods':

Put a tablespoon of Bicarbonate of Soda in your bath....do this for about a week.

Or mix one TEASPOON of Bicarb in a tea cup of cold water...and use cotton wool to bathe your vag.

Other effective treatments are freezing natural yoghurt in ice cubes and putting one of those in your kitty...or using Tea-tree Oil as a rinse.

Garlic???! never heard of that! Garlic has anit-bacterial properties but isn't going to do jack to help with a YI!

A couple of natural rmedies that do work:
Acidophilus capsules - take the orally and pop one open and use in your vagina topically.
Natural live yoghurt - again to apply topically
    ^these work for moderate infections.

Also drink lots of water, avoid synthetic underwear and scented/ coloured bath products.

Garlic is an antibiotic and antifungal. That is why it works to get rid of a YI. Also RAW apple Cider Vinegar will help as well. It must be RAW/Unpasturized or it will make the problem worse, however. This provides some immediate relief and I recommend douching with the Raw Apple Cider Vinegar thats been diluted with pure water.. then do the garlic. Drink a couple glasses of water a day with a Tablespoon of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar in it as well. This will help to cure the problem.

Understanding YI will help demystify them. Everyone has yeast in their bodies, and for the most part it lives in harmony with your body. When your body becomes unbalanced (there are many different ways this can happen but I'll get into a couple in a minute) the good bacteria has a hard time surviving the unhealthy environment and the yeast flourishes and causes a slew of unpleasant symptoms. This issue starts in digestive tract but can spread throughout your entire body, and in bad cases can actually wrap around your spinal cord and infect your brain. You can't cure that with Monistat. Monistat is like a band aid. The YI is a symptom. It is your body trying to telling something is wrong that needs to be addressed. When you use Monistat you basically shoot the messenger. The problem is not resolved.. just masked. It will come back. Eating diets rich in dairy and simple carbs (complex carbs are good) as well as white/refined sugars cause the body to produce lots of mucous to protect itself. This creates a breading ground for yeast. I suggest drinking the Raw Apple Cider Vinegar in conjunction with douching with it and garlic because drinking it helps to go in and balance the PH of your intestinal tract, feeds the healthy bacteria (flora) and kills the yeast. Since that pesky yeast infection in your vag started in your stomach the only way to cure it from the symptom area (your vag) is to cure it from the root: your intestines. Now ultimately you will have to keep drinking the raw apple cider vinegar (although not as much) regularly to keep the problem at bay.. orrrr.. you can change your diet so your body can maintain its own healthy state. By switching to high raw fruits and veggies and cutting down on mucous forming foods (as mentioned earlier) you will dramatically improve your health. Obviously changing your diet all at once is hard, but even just eating more raw fruits and veggies while drinking the raw apple cider vinegar will do wonders to help your case.

For a more indepth understanding of this topic as well as some good suggestions for curing the issue I highly recommend picking up the book The Body Ecology Diet.

I am a chronic sufferer of yeast infections and I have never heard about putting garlic up your vagina. However, I do eat a clove of garlic a day. As tronie stated, it is antifungal and antibacterial. I cant take Diflucan anymore so I have to rely on nature's cures. If you take diflucan for long periods of time your body becomes resistant to it and the yeast mutates. Monistat is good but it does not kill every strand of yeast. My doctor said there are different strands and not every drug kills them all. There are some really really resistant yeast that dont wanna die .
I have heard about the apple cider vinegar douche also. I have never used it. However I do take a teaspoon full mixed with small amount of warm water each morning on an empty stomach. It regulates your digestive system also.
Oregano Oil works too. I take it every day or try to. If i start to feel itchy I take it and it goes away. It has the same medicinal qualities as garlic.
Pure unrefined coconut oil is good too. the caprylic acid kills yeast. you can cook with it or eat. great for skin and hair too.
drink buttermilk. sounds nasty but the cultures in buttermilk help and it keeps u regular too.

i think thats enuff. i have so much info on candida aka yeast. with my herbs and change in diet i dont have the problems anymore. once i used to take diflucan every week for months at a time and would still have a freakin yeast infection. now with the herbs i dont suffer none of that. i was never a believer in herbs before but if u itch long enuff u will seek help

oh and they are rite about the sugar. i love sugar but the sugar is like adding fuel to a flame when fighting yeast

yes yes yes.. the coconut oil.. I forgot about that.

Also, are you doing raw/unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. The pasteurized stuff can actually make the issue worse. If so I'd drink it 3 times a day.

Also, google search Cultured Vegetables. They are essentially sourkraut that is unpasturized. You make it at home. it is quick and easy and would really help me. Before I was a raw foodist I had intense issues with it and these things would really help.
