    Default My TV is haunted

So in a side room we never use, there's a 5 year old television. It's hooked up to cable, but we haven't used it in literally years. It's been in there for a while with no incident, but suddenly, in the last couple of months, it turns itself on and off.

There's no rhyme or reason, or common time. It happens when we're home, when we're not home. Sometimes it will stay on for a few hours, sometimes for a few minutes, then turns off.

The really odd thing is that, despite us never changing the channel, it turns on to different channels.

Sometimes it comes on to NBC, then Lifetime...WTF?

It's just very bizarre. Any reason a TV would go on or off?

Or do I have a ghost that enjoys women's television?

Someone might be screwing around with you. A popular practical joke is to program a universal remote to control your tv.

Yeah, I doubt it. It's not our main home, we're only there every couple of weeks. We don't know any of our neighbors, and we don't have guests over. And besides, our neighbors are all fairly far away, so it would take a hell of a remote. It's just so bizarre!

But it is reassuring that if it is a gost, we can bond over Betty White.

I actually have a similar problem with the flat screen TV in my bathroom ( nothing like checking out a good movie while soaking in the Jacuzzi ! ). At any rate, really high humidity causes this TV to turn itself on and off / change channels etc.

Power surge and a tv that is sensitive to power? If local electric company is overloaded, you may be the receiver of this surge. Ask your neighbors if it happens to them or if their lights suddenly go brighter every now and again.

And are you in a high temperature region where people are using their air conditioners more often than not? Could be the case for Melonie.

hahahahah somebody has the same kind of remote next door somewhere and it's controlling your TV too. if you really want to know if it's haunted, pull the power plug out of the wall, if it still turns itself on you're in biiiig trouble lol

    Ooooh! That would be creepy!!!!

Ya know that painting The Scream? I hate that picture, MTV used to use in in a commercial with a scream voice over. One night my TVs volume shot up, right on that commercial!!!
I was too stuck to my seat to turn it down. Terrifying!

Well, you can buy a surge protector to test one theory and cover the IR receiver with tape to test the other! Do a true paranormal debunking of this. Try to give the tv to someone and see if it does it at their place also. Gee, can you tell I troubleshoot for a living??

I think that it would be more likely that the home is haunted and not the TV itself. Although now that I think of it I remeber seeing this show on ghosts once where a family bought some used furniture, and supposedly it was the furniture that was haunted.

Of course, but you give it to someone else to see if it's a technical problem with the TV.

Wow, that just got me thinking about firewood. Interesting...
