I don't exactly classify my snakes as exotic animals since they are easily obtained at a pet store. I mean anything from little marmoset monkeys to the unthinkable, like pet tigers.
Was it a hassle to get the necessary permits? Do you regret your decision? Do you still have your animal?
My boyfriend had a kinniption fit when I came home with an injured prarie dog about an hour ago. We dropped it off at the vets. But it was sooooo cute :-(

    Uh, permits?

She got sick and died, so there is some regret in that regard.

I grew up with a 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 2 peacocks, 3 parrots, one snake, a monkey and a goat named Stella. They're in Nigeria with my parents and siblings.

One of the dogs had to be put to sleep, the rabbits died. All the other animals are still alive however, Stella is getting REALLY old. Get this, My mom hates animals. I don't know how the hell that all works there with her and my dad but they're so happy.

I really enjoyed my beautiful little friends. *Sigh* I miss Nigeria.

My older kitty is an F3 Bengal (asian leopard mixed w/ siamese & tabby), so the state still considers him wild. The younger is much further down the line... I believe 5 generations.

We have an 'Ocelot' called Oscar....he's a large leopard like cat which can be kept as a pet without a licence.

Owning an Ocelot in the UK is legal?

In most of the United States, it's illegal to own an ocelot at all, as it's an endangered species.

'kandie_kitten', you're quite correct. The Ocelot IS listed as an endangered species in the US and Mexico. However it is legal to keep them in the UK. Just Google 'Ocelot kittens' and you'll find plenty of licenced breeders selling them.

My Parents (whose 'pet' he is...if you can call an Ocelot a 'pet'), have been charitable Patrons of a small Wildlife Park here in the UK for 30 odd years, and Oscar was a rejected kitten that needed a home. My Parents own a farm.........so he has plenty of room if he needs to roam......but he's actually quite at home in the surrounds of the farmhouse.

He's old now.....14 years. For a large cat he's quite domesticated....and like any cat, he loves having his ears and chin scratched!

They don't sell iguanas in Canada? Those little shits are all over pet stores in the US
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

I know and can I say lucky! I heard of this from a friend in FL. He was laughing on how he could just see iguanas on his lawn at times... Im sooo jealous!

Sad part is I went to a pet store, they said they will order one within a week.. I did not hear from them since (5months ago) and I called them every week to check up! Another pet store took 3 months to get one. By then I got lucky and found a breeder 2 hrs away who got iguanas that week!

Yeah there are so many iguanas here in FL that they have been talking about an iguana hunting season. They arent indigenous to the US and they are taking over here and destroying local wildlife. Sucks. But there are some HUGE ones here. Theres one I see sunning himself at the canal down the street from time to time and he must be at LEAST 6 ft long from head to tail. And a gorgeous bright green..he's a healthy boy!(at least I think hes a male...I havent gotten close enough to tell for sure!)

I dont get into major exotics (the most exotic I have is birds) because honestly..most just arent meant to be pets. Its not fair to them. I knew someone that had a large apt and kept a panther. Panthers shouldnt be housepets. They just shouldnt. The only exception to me is in cases like Pussyinboots where it is a rescue.

And I must say that Ocelot is GORGEOUS!!!
