    Question Salt Substitutes

so i see these on the shelves and i was wondering if anyone on here knows about them. are they bad for you? do they actually taste like salt? what is in them if there is no or little sodium? which brands do you recommend and which should i stay away from? and also, do they make you retain water?
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Splenda is basically chlorinated sugar! Athena, I think Mrs. Dash makes some good low sodium seasonings, check it out!

I have Mrs. Dash but I use that only to season my meat with. I also have some low-salt. I forgot what brand it is but its 50/50 salt and potassium I think. It tastes just the same as regular salt.

Do you like spicy food? I find that when I add alot of red pepper I don't add as much salt. What's on your spice rack? I find that when you cook with alot fo spices you don't add as much salt.

Do you want to cut out salt?
I use salt but it's good for me
Celtic or pink himalayan are awesome and taste so much better than regular salt.

Best advice i can give is to cut it out altogether.

The only time i add salt to food is a light sprinkling on fish and chips (i'm British, it's what we do) on the rare occasions i indulge.

Seriously, once you stop using salt and you give your tastebuds time to adjust (i recommend a detox diet then build up to a regular diet minus salt) you'll actually start to taste food again as we become too used to salt=flavour.

As workerbee points out, there are alot of other herbs and ingredients that can be used as seasoning too.
