    Default Need a grocery list

Long time no post.. I've had a pretty rough last 6 months but have gotten through it all finally.

Anyways.. With my new found freedom I'm going to be switching cam sites/maybe try out dancing, BUT I've put on like 15 pounds from stress/depression. This started last year but it's starting to show now.. I haven't weighed myself lately but I'm going to guess I'm around 130 now.. I've never been over 120 till now and I look excellent at 115. I'm 5'6.

The weight is all in my tummy, the rest of my body is still slim (actually my ass got a bit bigger which I'm happy about).. If I sit a certain way on cam you can't tell at all, but if I slouch or get into certain positions you can definitely tell!!

I wanna look hot when I start whichever new job I choose but I've never dieted before and I'm seriously bad eater. I drink soda 24/7 and eat pasta, french fries, pizza... I HATE fruits/veggies and need my caffeine even though I hate coffee so this is going to be really hard for me.

I've already started walking a bit, going to keep that up.. I'm so lazy now lol.. Probably because I'm so unhealthy.

I'm thinking oatmeal for breakfast and some kinda rice for dinner.. but what else?

Oh and I don't know how to cook Good news is a HATE chocolate/candy/most sweets, bad news is I'm addicted to cheese.

cut out the soda & grease.

my list goes something like this as I buy whatever looks best:
    -leafy greens
    -brocoli or cauliflower
    -chicken
    -salmon, cod or red snapper
    -spring or mesculin mix
-salad veggies: carrots cucumbers, bell peps, tomatoes

that's just a basic list. I mostly cook at home, so it gets pretty crazy when I have to make a real groccery list. Stick to lean protien & lots of salads & veggies/fruit. I have to eat late at night, or my stomach will drive me nuts; I've started eating apples or grapefruit to make this healthier.

If you can give up sodas that would be a great start.
How do you cook your french fries?
Fried in grease with ketcup and ranch = bad
Baked with hot sause = better

    ^^^ I'm actually about 50/50 baking frying. I know I'm terrible lol.

Well I did some more research and decided to try out a frozen foods diet...

Basically Lean Cuisine, Smart ones, ect for dinner/lunch. Oatmeal/cereal for breakfast. There is one brand of coffee I like on occasion so going to try to cut out soda and have coffee and water through out the day.

I'm not a big fan of TV dinners but I've read it helped a lot people ween into portion control and eating more greens. A lot of people also lost a lot of weight doing this over a few months. They also have a LOT less sodium than normal tv dinners which I was worried about.

I think 15 pounds is doable this way, then once I'm where I wanna be I can start learning how to cook healthy for myself.

What do you guys think? I'm just scared they aren't going to be very filling. Whenever I don't eat enough or skip a lot of meals I tend to get really dizzy (even passed out a lot in my heavy party days from skipping meals).

I know you say you hate fruits / veggies .... but they are crucial to a healthy diet. Even if you don't like the taste or texture, I guarantee that if you eat like half your food in raw fruit / veggies and the other half in whatever you are currently eating, you WILL lose the weight you want to.

eating mostly frozen food is a terrible idea. That stuff is loaded with preservatives, and it's not good for you. I know you don't like fruit or veggies, but you are going to have to learn to, or you are not going to have any long term results, if you get any results at all.

I don't think so... wouldn't something like that come up when I go in for check ups?

Ok so everyone disagrees with the frozen food thing.. Good thing I didnt go nuts at the store last night =x

I guess I'll just buy some stuff and force myself till I like it LOL.. Was trying to find a more "plan" based way with prepared meals so I wouldn't cheat/be lazy about cooking.

Sorry if it came out kind of brash, the reoccurring dizziness caught my attention though. As far as regular checkups go, they wouldn't necessarily catch it (diabetes or pre-diabetes) unless you asked for a test or told them about your symptoms.

I had a similar diet, but I am slowly changing, I feel your pain. I began by eating smaller portions of the stuff I liked with more veggies on the side and fruits in between. I don't drink juice at all, and soda only occassionally.

All the good foods like cottage cheese, tofu, salad, etc makes me want to wretch. So this is the best I can do right now. I need to find a good salmon recipe. I don't really care for it, but I don't hate it like the other good stuff so I'll stick it in there somewhere.

Try water with lemon (either real lemon or plain, pre squeezed lemon juice) and tea with honey. Coffee isn't really that bad for most people if you get the real stuff, keep to one or two cups a day, and aren't loading it up with sweeteners.

To up your fruit and veggie intake check out juices by companies like Bolthouse farms, Naked juice, and Odwalla. Odwalla and Naked are my favorites. They're straight fruit and veggie juice usually with no sweeteners added and they're really delicious.

Cheese really isn't that bad as long as it's real cheese and kept in reasonable quantities. I love blue cheese and dried cranberries on a spinach salad.

As for the rest, just keep trying new things. I promise you that somewhere out there are fruits and veggies that you will like and there are tasty substitutions for unhealthy things. Try one new food a day and be patient with yourself. It takes time to learn how to cook and it takes time for your palate to adjust but once you've made the adjustment it comes naturally and healthier foods will taste amazing to you. And if it makes you feel better I know all this and still screw up on a regular basis, I've been fighting to lose a little weight and still haven't because Ben and Jerry's=pure evil!

These are the things that I buy on a regular basis depending on what my menu is, maybe some will work for you:

    brown rice
    whole wheat couscous
    bananas
    lemons or lemon juice
    avocados
    zucchini
    yellow squash
    mushrooms
    onions
    asparagus
    tomatoes
    spinach
nuts of all kinds (preferably raw and unsalted)
beans (chickpeas, kidney, black, fava, lentils)
    salmon
buffalo meat (tastes like beef but tastier and healthier)
    chicken
    organic eggs
    kefir
    greek yogurt
    honey
    olive oil
    fresh salsa
yerba mate (a tea grown in south America that's really good for you)
    black tea
    green tea

You can combine a lot of these foods in awesome ways.

Try replacing soda with club soda (the cheap version of sparkling water, usually found in the drink mixers section of the store) + lemon/lime. You get all the fizz with none of the high fructose corn syrup.

Another great option I've found to help flavor your water is the Crystal Light Pure Fitness drink mixes. It doesn't have any scary aspartame in it, and is very low sugar. I personally hate drinking straight water, so having a bit of lemon-lime flavoring and sweetness helps me drink more water. Which is great for your entire body.

One breakfast idea: Even though you don't like fruits, do you have a food processor? My big thing in the summer is smoothies. 2 bananas + yogurt (vanilla yogurt and sweetened yogurts make this an easier transition) + frozen berries = delicious.

For your cheese, buy Raw goat cheese. It's a bit strong at first, but delicious. It's healthier for you since it comes with natural enzymes that haven't been heat-altered.

Substitute any milk you're drinking with almond milk. I'm obsessed with this stuff--either Silk or Almond Breeze brand (get the refrigerated kind). You can eat this with cereal or straight up. Soooo good. It's better for you than regular milk or soy milk b/c it contains no cholesterol and no soy (which affects women's bodies negatively, possibly increasing breast cancer rates and whatnot), and no whatever else is floating around in milk.

You say you like pasta--Switch to gluten-free pastas and see if that makes any difference. All large grocery stores have these in stock, you just have to find them.

Instead of trying to overhaul your entire diet (which will likely cause you to revert back to your old ways within the week), try cutting single groups out at a time. I'd start with the soda. That definitely needs to go. Phosphoric acid (dark sodas) eat away at the calcium in your bones. High fructose corn syrup...welll....::shudders::. There isn't much worse that you could be consistently pouring through your body.

Actually this sounds more like hypoglycemia. My BFF has this and until it was properly diagnosed, doctors suspected diabetes. If she doesn't eat she gets the shakes, but even eating a little cures it right up.

Thank you again everyone It's only been about a week so I haven't totally made a turn around in my diet, just being a bit more picky.. Little at a time.

I have however, completely cut out soda. I bought a ton of Dasani, which I have a soft spot for from my party days, and some instant coffee...

Well I was too busy to make the coffee a few days there so I'm now caffeine free. Had a lingering headache for a whole day and am kinda tired but I can already tell my tummy has flattened a little bit. I'm sleeping much better.

I didn't think I would see a change so soon.

I must've been drinking like 1000 or more calories a day from JUST the soda.

I'm not sure I wanna give caffeine up completely, but for now this seems to be working.

Yogurt was suggested in a few posts. The few times I've tried eating it in the past it triggered migraines that had me balled up on the bed crying.. That's only time in my life I can honestly say I've had a migraine. Wish I could eat it though!
