    Default Suffering.....

I've had this toothache for awhile now but I've been putting off seeing a dentist. Well two days ago out of nowhere the pain got REALLY bad. I mean to the point it was unbearable. I went to the drugstore and bought everything that had to do with dental care to take care of my choopers. Well, I got up yesterday only to find my gums and neck swollen plus I had a really bad fever. I got online and searched "Swollen lymph glands and toothache" only to find that I have an abcessed tooth. It is REALLY bad guys I mean my face is pretty much disfigured right now And I am in sooo much pain. Well the pain was worse yesterday however, I still managed to go to work on a 3 hour appointment Don't even ask how I did it but I couldn't believed I got through it without balling my eyes out.

Thankfully there is an emergency dental clinic here and they allow walkins. I will be getting this tooth extracted today. I've never had anything like this done before so I'm pretty much scared out of my mind. I have been up since yesterday. I haven't slept at all. The swelling wouldn't let me sleep at all. I feel like shit! Because today is sunday this place opens at 12pm sO I'm having to wait to then to get this ish fixed. Just wanted to share

Oh and btw I have no dental insurance.. I have health for me and laina but not dental so I'm paying for this out of pocket $260 which is nothin but my thing is what about those people that can't afford $260 for this procedure. Well I guess they can apply for medicaid.. but damn that medicaid line..I just couldn't do it

Hey girl... Im not sure they will pull your tooth without first getting rid of the infection...which means antibiotics for about 10 days, along with pain meds. A day or two of antibiotics you will feel less pain. Its a huge risk to pull a tooth with an underlying infection. And this infection you have could possibly be fatal if not treated ASAP. So they need to treat it today, then probably schedule you for the extraction in a week or so. Just didn't want you to get high hopes.
But then again, maybe they will do something differently, but with my experience, and studies.... Im pretty sure they will do the above first.
Getting the tooth pulled wont be so bad.Doesn't hurt. Just the drippy mess afterwards for a day or two and some tenderness. You will do fine girl I know ur tough

I use a discount medical/dental plan. It's a lot less money than insurance & saves you a lot. With the plan a tooth extraction is somewhere in the neighborhood of like $60, yours might be more if it's cracked or anything like that. Either way, it's less than what the dentist would normally charge though. Let me know if you want info on it.

I know this feeling too well. I suffered for years from an abcess and my one dentist botched the root canal and made it worse. Long story short, I switched dentists, had an oral surgeon pull the tooth, they had to put me under general AND had an ambulance waiting in the event something went wrong because the poison (that's what an abcess is) had spread and I could have gone into cardiac arrest. After that, I NEVER mess with a toothache again, and have had two other teeth pulled, but neither one was scary because I caught it right away.

Hey kelly, Did you say you suffered from abcess for years? HOW! This is how mine started: It started as a really BAD cavity that was left untreated. The pain would go away and come back, go away and come back until two days ago it got REALLY bad. I went to the drug store and got one of those temporary tooth filings and packed it in the bad tooth and went to bed. The next morning my mouth was on fire and my gums and neck was swollen. This is when it turned abcess.

I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy ..it was BAD!

How did you go so long without getting it checked out? I was unable to sleep last night because of it. It had only been abcess for two days. Yes I heard the abcess was actually poison and almost lost it just thinking about all the things that could go wrong. Glad you switched dentists!

I had it from about 1997 or so until 2000. I don't know how it started, but likely as a cavity he didn't fill good enough. At first I went to the dentist and he said it was an abcess and I needed a root canal. I figured no biggie and handed over the $400. Then he stuck gauze in the hole and it smelled. It was awful. The pain was there but he said the pain might be there for awhile. It was the absolute worst pain ever and I bet I could handle childbirth without medication better than than pain. After awhile he kept putting gauze in the tooth and I finally figured out he wasn't going to fix the tooth so I went to another dentist, who said that it was bad and made an appointment at the oral surgeon immediately. I had to be knocked out and was sleeping a lot after the surgery because of recovering. The oral surgeon told me I could have sued him for malpractice because he botched my tooth. He was rushing patients in because he had many appointments because he was the only dentist around who took Medicaid (I wasn't on Medicaid). I wish I had switched years earlier but thought dentists wouldn't do that. After I switched other patients I knew told me he botched their teeth too.

I had two teeth pulled unnecessarily. I had braces when I was younger and they told me I HAD to have my teeth pulled so my other teeth could fall into place. They took my braces off before my gaps closed up, so now they are there to stay. I guess that's my worst botched teeth story lol.

I had my abcess tooth for only 2 days and I felt like death. I don't know how you carried it for years. You are very lucky to be alive. I don't know how you dealt with that pain like that. Did your neck swell and all? My neck started swelling and it was getting bigger and bigger by the minute. I don't know what happened but as soon as I got shot with the local aneathesia I started to feel the swelling go down. You should have sued that dentist. I googled and found that what you went through is very common. That is not right at all! I wish I had medicaid but for me it's just too much of a hassle. I'm sure I'll get it when I'm slapped with a ridiculous bill from one of these docs.

Childbirth is nothing compared to the pain I suffered with the abcess. If you can deal with that pain for all those years, Childbirth will be a breeze. Ugh I hate that you had to deal with that for that long. I almost can't believe that you let it go on for so long. Ugh it could have ruined you BIG TIME but I'm sure you know this now!

If my dentist told me I had to pull another tooth just so all the others could fall in place I would just die! You still have your braces now? I'm thinking about getting invisalign. What do you think about this?

No, I had them in high school. 5 years. I'd like veneers though.

Oh and also, my mom had an abcessed tooth for a long time too. It was because she refused to go to the doctor/dentist. She didn't want to spend her shopping money on something that could possibly kill her. And, even though she's a nurse, she's anti-doctor and anti-vaccine. Literally she won't go unless she is near death because she doesn't have/want insurance and doesn't want to spend money unless it's on something useless.

Yeah had I known then, I would have had it pulled when it started hurting. The dentist instead kept giving me pills to cover the pain so it wasn't as bad. I never at the time realized that abcess could kill until I finally switched dentists and she told me. I am very lucky to be alive because periodically it popped and the poison spread. My whole face swelled up bad. Now, everytime I get an ache I go immediately to fix it. I wish I had sued him because he's a terrible dentist but has several lawsuits pending against him so hopefully he'll get it. He also never diagnosed my gum disease and I had to spend thousands to repair that as well.

Eek. I think I have some minor gum problems as well. I can't wait to get some passive income flowing so I can have it fixed!

Ah I would have gotten veneers a LONG time ago but then a friend of mine told me they were not permanent/lifetime guaranteed which sucks! Why spend 10k on veneers if not more and then spend an additional 6k or more if something were to happen to them. I rather just invest in braces or invisalign.

Wow @ your mom. I don't understand the whole anti vaccine/anti doctor thing. It's very common nowadays. I'm not that brave.

Ahh I am up right now dying from another toothache. The tooth right next to the tooth that I Pulled is also bad.. just a cavity not abcess .. it's the very last one and it's driving me INSANE here that I can't even sleep but I am taking care of this immediatly first thing in the morning. I am in so much pain once again. The place I'll be going to is an emergency dental clinic and they see you right away. They open at 8am so I'll have to pretty much be sitting outside before they open so I can make it to court at 9am (traffic citation) as I have no clue how I'll be able to sit in that damn court room with this type of pain. Ugh this is just a nighmare!
