Default Hate the stereotype of a stripper (vent)

So I have yet to tell anyone I'm going to start dancing. I don't like that kind of attention on myself. Only people that know are my friend, who is a dancer herself. But people don't understand! They think that because you strip your a hoe! Which is totally not right. They think you fuck everyone and that your just a dirty person. And I'm like are you kidding me. We're normal people just like everyone else. Just because we're dancing topless or nude and on poles and stages instead of don't sit on our asses in a cubical for 8 hours a day doesn't make us any less of a person. UGH!!!!!!!!

*sigh* This is why I don't tell anyone what I do. I don't understand why you would tell anyone that you're a stripper. It's not socially accepted so why bring that drama to youself. I Just don't say shit about how I make my money. I rather make them think "Damn how does she do it" than anything else. People bring drama upon themselves. You'll be stressfree keeping your mouth shut about what you do.

I'm not even going to get into the stereotypes because I have friends that are strippers and anyone that thinks stripping and fucking goes hand in hand is just plain stupid and ignorant.

i don't tell people what i do either. my boyfriend knows, and many of his friends and mine work in the hospitality buisness, so almost all of them get it.

I'm so with you all on this one. The general public or sheeple can be so damn ignorant.

I told my Grandma, both my parents (who mean nothing to me), my younger sibling who is close in age, my boyfriend, a friend (who I got into dancing recently), my boyfriend, a few other select friends and that's it.

I think I'm fine with who knows now and won't be telling anyone else.

I've only told a friend + two of the men I've dated ( one I was with forever and one 4 months ) . I'd LOVE to be more open about it but haven't because you just never know when the info could get in the wrong persons hands. There are a few friends who I'd like to tell ( I really hate lying to them ), but if one of them slips and tells another and it spreads, it's something I just couldn't take back.

I don't keep it a secret. It's an awesome way to screen out judgmental assholes who I wouldn't want in my life anyway.

I was very careful who I told. I told most of my exes because I was still dancing when I dated them. A few were fine but others not so much. The current guy I love knows because I met him at a club. My former best friend knew because I got her into stripping (bad part on this because she was a mess and it made her worse). A few guy friends also knew. Otherwise no one else knew because of the sterotype. One of my guy friends years ago matched me up with a guy and told him. This guy thought I was easy and when I refused to sleep with him, he dropped me off at home!

It's also another way to bring unwanted drama to you life. Who cares about judgemental assholes? fuck them, get money!

I will never understand why society looks down on people who work in the adult field. Because we make more money and your the ones paying us, WE'RE the sluts?

    Dont get it

I almost had a issue because I just got into a relationship a few weeks ago with a guy I adore, and I kinda said "oh yeah, Im an aspiring stripper" and he pretty much went off lol. But after we discussed it and I let him know that its for money and not so I can go home with men every night (where do they come up with this?), he's decided to support me, so we'll see how that goes...

Surprisingly, the only drama I've encountered was with my ex boyfriend, who I never should have been with because he was uncomfortable with what I did. It's important for me to be able to share my whole life with a man if we're in a serious relationship, and as a result he has to be okay with what I do. Maybe not love it, but be willing to deal with it.

I probably encounter a lot less drama than some other girls because my social circle is small and pretty liberal.

I've been really lucky too. My family is so supportive. I don't have any secrets from anyone really.
If people don't like it, then THEY can pay my bills and I'll gladly stop working in the adult industry.

I just can't stand the ex strippers who think they're better than current strippers because they're outta "that lifestyle". Good for you! Here's a hi five and a gold star....STILL doesn't give you any right to judge me because you've grinded on dicks too!! /rant!!

I was sitting in class when the subject at hand changed quickly, I'm not sure as to what since I was in the process of day dreaming as always, when i heard a female student say, "Sooo Im a belly dancer but every one thinks I'm a stripper." I still wish I had the guts to say what my instant response in my head was, "Well I am a stripper but every one thinks I'm a whore."

I am for the most part a retired stripper (still do a party from time to time but not as often as I did) and I know many other exstrippers. So many of them have that attitude of calling current strippers "sluts" and I've never understood that. I dislike the stripper who really are the stereotype, but not all strippers fit the stereotype and I certainly never did. I dislike the strippers who provided extras (I started when dick grinding was prostitution and touching wasn't allowed) but those who do a job? Nope, because it's a job. I'll never forget how people judged me when I was a career dancer and it sucked. I'll never forget being in college while dancing and a TEACHER said about a local strip club (one with a clean rep btw) that "all of those clubs are full of hookers". I wanted to hit him upside the head and tell him not all dancers are whores and I've known whores when I onces worked at a store (this is true actually). I'll NEVER forget how rough stripping could be emotionally and physically.

I don't keep it a secret with people I actually talk to on a regular basis or care about, but random strangers? None of their business! I usually just say I work in web sales (true, because I sell cam shows!).

I HAVE to tell you, I love your new avatar-your baby is soo cute!!

Right now, my dad knows, my best friend, and a few guys i've dated (and girls) other than that..no ones business. Like Malaya said, you're just bringing drama to yourself..

im open about it, completely unashamed, and i dont sugarcoat shit or try to say it is better than it is or worse than it is. as a result i really dont get any disrespect for it. if you knew me in person you would probably get it, people rarely give me shit for anything to be honest because i think the shame gene was never built into my dna.

as far as the stereotype: hah people can have their stupid little stereotypes. but whenever a stereotype is used to attempt to exploit me, i exploit right back. that has always been my method of things. im sly and crafty and i will turn peoples stupidity and ignorance back around on them to make it work for me. thats just how i am. and i will laugh at them while i do it. its much more effective than arguing with them about how strippers are not whores these days while half of the girls do provide blowjobs in the champagne rooms.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

The only people that know/knew are my mom, dad, older brother (mom told him; ugh.), bf, and stripper friends. One close friend as well but she use to work as an escort so I knew that she would understand.
My mom doesn't know anymore since she wasn't okay with it for a while more than my dad (he was totally fine with it!) so I stopped for a few months from the guilt trip but have been back at it since last June and she still has no clue.

    ^^^^^
About the exstrippers.... YES! I totally feel you! There was this girl selling bikinis in the dressing room one time and was like "I'm soo glad I don't have to degrade myself and get naked anymore! I feel bad for you guys" I was like WTF. No one wants to buy your shitty bikinis anyways!
"Strippers are like pet tigers. They are nice to look at but they are not for everyone."
