    Default Nausea after BA?

I have my boobie surgery set for October 19th (still a few months to wait!) and I'm super excited except for one thing- the thought of nausea/vomiting after waking up from the anesthesia. I've heard its common, and thats why I'm freaking out. I hate puking, have a fear of even gagging or feeling ill. I asked the doctor if he'd do the surgery under conscious sedation (Twilight anesthesia) just to avoid the really heavy general, but he doesn't do it. He said that the anesthesiologist could give me some anti -nausea meds, but I'm wary as to how well those work. Like...I'm really afraid. I'm not scared of the pain, or the healing time etc...just the nausea.

Could anyone tell me of their experiences? And did anyone get the anti-nausea meds beforehand?

Have you ever been under anesthesia before?

Some people just have that reaction to it. I have been under it a few times and it has never made me nauseous.

I had a BA/rhinoplasty and the Dr. gave me a nausea patch and promethazine suppositories. And, it kept the nausea under control.

I can relate. However, in general, I have had a lot more nausea problems with pre and post surgery pain meds in pill form than from the anesthesia used in the OR. For the vast majority of my surgeries, I have simply asked for Tylenol 3's ( with codeine ) instead of the 'higher horsepower' pain meds doctors like to prescribe, which have left me nausea free. The trade-off of course is that the Tylenol 3's can't completely 'cover' the pain for the first 24-48 hours post-op ... but I'd rather endure a bit of pain than be puking my guts out !!! But besides avoiding the nausea, by 48 hours post-op, not taking the 'higher horsepower' pain pills left me with a lot more 'energy', a lot less 'bloating' etc.

what drugs do you consider "higher horsepower"?

I can handle t3's and percocets. Not sure what I'll get prescribed for pain but I've had both of those several times (back injury, wisdom teeth etc) with no issues.

I did not feel nausea at all from the anesthesia. I actually felt damn good when I first work up. Happy as can be. Like Melonie, it was the pain killers that made me feel horrible. I didnt actually vomit (I dont think my body would let me because of fear of the pain vomiting would cause my boobs). I got anti-nausea medication and it worked straight away.

I was sore after my BA, but required no pain meds at all. I never had any nausea either. But everyone's different, and if you have never been under GA, then you really don't don't know how you will react. But if you do have some nausea, pop a gravol and know it will pass quickly enough.
