Default Covered drinks: is this normal in your area?

Say you are sitting at the bar having a drink with a girl. Could be someone you've known for a while, or someone you just met. Doesn't matter. She gets called to the stage to dance. She places a napkin over her drink and pushes it back on the bar for the bartender to watch. Or she says to you "watch my drink". Or she says, "come watch me on stage", and if you're inclined to go you put a napkin over your drink too, and push them both to the back of the bar.

Now I'm not talking about any dive in town, I'm talking clubs with 1st class bartenders who take care of their girls and boys. (But they are busy & can't watch everything) I know no one is going to roofie me unless by mistake, and I think it's much less likely for creeps to try to take advantage of dancers in a showclub than at a regular nightclub.

But is this too trusting? Is this something that would only happen in Denver, not in a real big city?

I've only seen and used the napkin cover as a way to tell others that the table or seat at the bar is "taken" while my dancer & I are off getting dances.

Dancers who leave drinks unattended at tables or at the bar often never return for them. Can be a real money waster for the customer who's buying those $12 drinks for the dancers, only to have them left behind. But if I were in their big stiletto shoes I'd probably do the same thing.
You can't be too careful nowadays.

My point is, where I'm from they DO come back and drink the rest of their drink. I'm curious about whether this is customary anywhere else, and whether it's wise. Are you saying they mostly don't, either from wide experience or in your local area?

I would never, ever leave a drink and come back to it later.

I know that this sounds crazy but one time I asked a guy for a cigarette. He went to his car, took a long time getting one out for each of us and lighting them in his car and brought it over. I told him I didn't want it anymore because it was too hot but really it was because I had this vision of him drugging it somehow. I know that's crazy but I figured that it was possible.

Grils do it at my club but I think its mostly a signal to the bartender, don't spill my drink out, I am not done with it. If they push it back without a napkin it gets cleaned up.

No club is so nice that you don't have to worry about getting drugged there. Bad guys come from all walks of life.

The napkin thing is usually to hold a place or seat. Never drink something you've left though. The other girls aren't being very smart. No offense blues, but you should never trust a customer to watch your drink. The only person responsible for your safety and well being is you.

The type of club & time of day can also be a factor.
One of my fave divey clubs is more like a neighborhood bar with half-naked ladies running around. It's the kind of place where everybody sorta knows everyone else, and there are always many regulars in attendance, especially during dayshift. In this kind of club the dancers feel more comfortable in leaving a drink and returning for it later, since it's almost a family environment.

The larger, more impersonal "upscale" clubs, along with clubs that attract more tourists than regulars would be less likely to offer the type of security that the neighborhood dives can provide.

    Just a thought.
