    Smiley 0 calorie noodles!

holy shit, i cant believe i havent heard of these till yesterday... but there is something called "sherataki noodles" which literally have 0 calories. the are made of a flour from some sort of root, and it is all dietary fiber so it goes through your system.

they also have one with seaweed powder which is like 5 calories, and then i guess they also have ones with tofu mixed in which are like 20 calories. i didnt see the tofu ones where i went yesterday.

i got mine at the asian market for pretty cheap. they dont really have a taste, well the seaweed ones have a slight flavor... but throw some low sodium low calorie sauce on and it will taste like that. i like to have pasta with my food and these fill you up. the texture is a bit weird, but i dont find it any weirder than some of the other asian noodles out there.

thought id share. according to search its only been mentioned in a few older threads. i wish i knew about this before yesterday! im so bad at calorie restriction, ive always had to lose weight by working out really hard and lowering carbs. but now maybe i can switch up my routine!
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I just researched these! Theres a brand called miracle noodles, would that be the same thing? They sound awesome-- as long as I can put olive oil and tomato on it and its somewhat similar to pasta, I'll eat the shit outta it. Thanks.

They don't have much of a flavor by themselves, and smell a little funky, but they do retain whatever flavor is on the sauce that you use. I like them with just soy sauce. I don't eat them often because they do claim to be low in carb, but they make my belly bloat for a couple days, even having a small amount.

Nice change though once in awhile as I usually just eat protein and very little greens. I make a deadly low carb alfredo sauce that goes good with it.

I'll have to look into this... I tried tofu noodles once and was pretty turned off. Also, spaghetti squash is pretty good.

I love pasta...any kind of pasta. I may look for these! Just to try it. I'm horrible at restricting my calorie intake too but my metabolism is pretty high so I guess it balances out.

this is because it is basically all dietary fiber and water. the thing with increasing dietary fiber in your diet is you are supposed to do it gradually or you do get bloated etc. most americans eat less than half of the amount they are supposed to eat. so your body is probably not used to the fiber.

so yea if you eat a diet low in fiber i wouldnt start eating too much of these right away as they will make you bloated. and if you do eat a diet low in fiber you should be looking into fixing that anyway, completely separate from shirataki noodles, because fiber is supposed to be important for some reason. i didnt have problems with bloating but i already eat a decent amount of fiber as is.

did you try rinsing them? they smell weird but if you rinse them they smell ok.

i can see why a lot wouldnt like the texture. i personally dont mind it, but the smell before they are rinsed is nasty.

yea it works for me to stop pasta cravings. not sure how well it will for others.

mac and cheese is one of my faves-- today i just took some vegan cheese substitute, put it over (rinsed) shirataki noodles, and microwaved it, stirred it, put it in the fridge a couple min to thicken, then added salt. didnt taste quite as good as kraft but it hit the spot. i have to research better recipes though.. im not naturally a good cook so i am sure that other ppl on the internet have WAY better ways to recreate mac and cheese without dairy and with shirataki noodles lol.

also, starmaker: anyway you can post that low carb fetuccine recipe? or is it top secret ? i would super appreciate it .

Fiber reduces the likelihood of being overweight and developing diabetes, and prevents colon cancer and hemmorhoids while keeping you regular. And yeah, most peeps will adjust to getting the recommended amount and the bloating gassyness will stop after a couple of weeks. I am a veggie and I eat a ton of fiber and never have issues, when I first went to college and was able to eat as I pleased (a big salad for lunch everyday and a side salad with dinner) I had some issues for a few weeks though.

thanks, i knew there was some reason why you wanted to eat fiber . i just couldnt remember exactly why.

being able to eat mac and cheese again is awesome. especially for only 100 calories. im pretty happy about it, its filling and ive been eating it with most of my meals. i think that was one of the biggest things that ive missed when i cut refined carbs out of my diet!

ok so today i went to the health food store as opposed to the asian market and got the ones with tofu in them that are shaped like fettuccini noodles. the package looks like this:

they are MUCH better than the ones i got at the asian market. you still need to rinse them off, but the texture is much more american pasta like as opposed to asian pasta like (hoping this makes some sense). and the other noodles only looked appetizing when i melted cheese over them so they looked more like regular mac and cheese, but these look like normal noodles. One package is 20 calories as opposed to the others which are 0 calories, but 20 calories is not significant so i would recommend these.

i microwaved them and put white cheddar popcorn seasoning (brand kernal seasons) on them for flavoring, and mixed a spoonful of cottage cheese to make it creamier. tastes great!

Cool!! Thanks for the info! I hate having no info when I test out new food! I just tried Soyrizo (Soy Chorizo) and it was....well it tasted good, but I couldn't eat it because it looked like a big, wet turd when I squeezed it out of the package. Haha No matter how hard I tried to clear my head, I only got one small bite down and tossed the rest.

I've been eating these for years! They are very yummy, but you do have to rinse them first to get rid of the wierd fishy-ish smell.

I personally love to use them in stir-fries in place of rice or regular noodles. It's also really good with cheese sauces and pesto. I personally dislike it with tomato sauces, tho. It just doesn't work with the texture or natural flavor or something.

They are great, though! I normally end up eating a whole package unless I put some veggies into it.
