    Default Braid-in hair extensions

Does anyone know how to do this, or where to go about getting it done? I'm talking about the very small braids made my looping a really really long length of syn hair around a small section of real hair near the scalp and then braiding it all together. Like yard braids, only with syn hair instead of yarn. I just can't figure out how to do it right. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I can probably pay $200-300 to have it done, but if I'm paying that much I need to find a dresser that can do extreme lengths, like almost down to my knees.
ETA: I don't mean to insult any hair dressers by quoting a small price. I don't go to hair dressers and I've never had extensions put in so I have NO IDEA what it should cost. I'm just mentioning how much I'd be willing and able to pay for this.

Ok, just found an awesome youtube video on how-to

But I'm still looking for more instruction on how to do this with longer hair (my hair is waist-length) and how to section off the hair. . . .

    (Bo Derek?)

Lord it would take forever for me to make some braids that long.
What city are you in? African braiders are everywhere. You should be able to find an african braid shop that will charge a good $300 for that. What color is your hair? For knee length I guess a pack of yaky pony unfolded would be long enough.

Workerbee, I'm in San Diego. I'm afraid that around here a dresser would want about $2,000, considering regular extensions here are a "bargain" at 600-800 just to make the hair as long as mine is naturally. . . . *sigh* So that's out. I knew $300 wouldn't cut it, lol!!

My hair is redish, auburn kind of. Would yak hair be long enough? That would save a bit of trouble looking for a supplier. I know of someone would might be able to get it at that length, I just shot her an email. I should need about 10 feet, since I'll be folding it in half to braid it around my real hair.

Christany, thanks for the link to the forum! I'm on LHC but I haven't been to this one yet. What are shrink tubes?

There's a tiny bit of residue that's left on your hair, but it's not a lot like in regular fusion. I just apply a dab of acetone and it removes it quick. Some people use micro rings instead or rubber bands to help enclose the braid. I just prefer the shrink tubes best. I'll try to find a couple links for you...

I've ordered from both companies before. Both are legit.
Thanks for the advice, I think I've seen them before, then, in lots of colors but they looked huge to me! Like, really thick! I didn't know they shrink-to-fit. Workerbee, if you don't mind my asking, what region are you in that a dresser might do the work for around $300? It might be worth the trip.

Oh no these aren't what I was thinking. . . . I was thinking something more like this:

    Lol, very different.

Those are cyberlox... falls... and wow... I think I know that girl lol.

I once had yarn braided into my mohawk and made into dreads. It was interesting to say the least. I'm a big fan of temporary extensions, as they are more comfortable. Falls/clips are easier to install/remove than actual semi-perm extensions. And you don't have to sleep with them in lol.

Oh no, I thought that's what you meant by the shrink tubes! Hehe. Here's what I want for my extensions, only much longer:
I do long the cyberlox falls, I wish I could pull them off but I don't have the right look.

Hellkat, yeah! I do NOT want permanent. At all. I love my hair too much to do something like use glue on it!! I considered yarn for this project, but I think I want it to look, from a distance, that maybe it is my real hair. Just maybe.

I got a response from the crafter that made my last braid. She said that she was no longer using the supplier that I could get the length I need from, so she gave me the link!! The longest length I can get is 84" so, 42" folded in half for the braid, maybe a little longer if I stagger it a little. . . . I'm going to have to wait until I get my paycheck (next week) to buy them, it's going to be like $220 for the hair!!! But I really, really want it. Want.

I'll post pictures when it's finally done. I think I might be putting them in by myself after all. The hair alone is eating up most of my budget.

I remember there being a tutorial in there somewhere too. I like combining this method with shrink tubes to enclose and secure the braid. Hope this helps.

Just to make sure I understand, are you looking to have the braid go all the way down to the end
    like this:

or just the tiny braid up near the scalp with the rest hanging loose like this:
I didn't see that youtube video before I responded last time! I love all the colors in her hair!

    I'm in Alabama.
I'm sure there is a shop somewhere in Cali that can do this for around $500.
That's a really long length. I where my hair braided braided long but it only goes to the middle of my back. I'm waiting for it to get cold again.
