Default Just got my X-Pole...Oh my God

So I just got my X-Pole yaaaaaay! Fed-Ex chick was totally laughing at me for being so excited. So after taking like 3 hours to get the damn thing set up I swear to god I finally got to play on it. Oh. My. God! I have never felt so fat and out of shape in my WHOLE LIFE! Did anyone else feel this way when they first got there pole?

Even some of the beginner moves are just impossible because I can't support my whole body weight. Like when you spin around facing the pole with both legs outstetched one on either side of the pole open wide? I can't find the name of it. Any way, I can't do it!

So does anyone have any tips for building up poledancing body strength? Or do I just have to keep at it? I am sso glad that I didn't spring for classes because this would be some embasassing shit.

Keep with & it, & do lots of "pole-ups". Stand facing the pole, grab above your head with the baseball grip, & pull your body up WITHOUT using your legs to grip the pole. You can bend at the knees when you do that. Once you are up, hold yourself there for as long as you can, drop down, then repeat. Keep building your reps & you'll build up your arm strength. You can also lift weights as well.

I'm in the same boat. I got my x-pole a couple of weeks ago and oh my gosh, it really is no joke. I have noticed an improvement from watching tips on youtube. There's an expert village series that has some good pole exercise tips.

Expert village is what Ive been watching today. Then of course my best friend who is all toned and goes to the gym came over, tripped ONCE then was able to cllimb the pole, spin, hold her legs straight out and lean out backwards. Seriouly all within 10 minutes. Where as I can barely heft my fat ass up the damn thing to do a fireman spin. My arms hurt, my legs hurt, thank GOD I'm having fun otherwise I would feel seriously blech right now.

Don't worry, it's totally normal. I couldn't do a thing with my pole for a couple of weeks after I first got it. The important thing is not to get discouraged and to keep at it. pole is really satisfying because you can actually see an improvement really really quickly if you stick with it. I would recommend taking some lessons because then it will encourage you to keep practising.

Yes! Go to Studioveena!!! I love that place. It's a really nice community. There are a bunch of online lessons to buy which are so so so helpful, Veena is amazing. That's how I learnt. I used to just try and use youtube, but i would end up getting really distracted by just watching amazing pole youtube videos. LOL.
But even if you don't want to spend money, just join up on the forum. There is so much helpful advice there, and girls post videos of themselves learning pole tricks and it's really nice to watch people improve. when newbies post their first videos they generally look awkward and can't do much, but then you see them improve so much video to video and it can give you a lot of inspiration. Plus every month they all do a fun challenge like "dance to a song from the 80's" or something, and everyone posts a vid of them doing it.

Also about your friend being able to whizz about the pole...DON"T WORRY. I teach pole classes and if theres one thing I've learnt it's that everyone learns the pole at different speeds and in different ways. What one person finds easy, another will find hard. Your friend might have no problem holding her own bodyweight, but when it comes to climbing/inverts/skin contact movements she may experience difficulty while you may excel at it. No way of telling.

Good luck and keep practising, you will be spinning around gracefully in no time!

It may not all be you. My pole is hella slippery. I bought it a while ago, but it's still as slick as ever.

In fact, the pole company has now switched the type of metal they're using. I found this out after I bought a stage pole with them. Not sure what it is now, but it has a much better grip.

If the poles weren't so much money, I'd switch out the one in my bedroom because it would be much easier to practice with a pole that isn't sooo slippery.

    Good luck with everything.

Hey I've got the titanium (gold finish) and the grip is awesome! I am a bit better already. I can jump up and hold myself there and I completely rocked out the fireman remixed spin today. I realized that I needed to tuck the poll in at my leg closer to my crtotch (fleshier and better grip higher up my leg).

My goodness, I know that is how I will be looking when I sign up for my classes next month. I'm going to be so embarrassed. Should I be doing push ups in the mean time?

I am really fit and small and even I had a hard time lifting my own weight at first, and even then after I got really good, sometimes my arms would be literally shaking from all the tension in my muscles. I know for a fact it is not easy! If you want to be in shape, do it every day for at least 30 minutes. You will notice in a few weeks...your body will feel different, even if you just play around for 30 minutes.

Oh yeah I can totally feel it. My boyfriend pulled my arm yesterday to help me off the couch and I yelled and almost slapped him in the face from the sharp pain, hahaha. He felt soooo bad, he hadn't realized just how hard I had been working out that day. I have sore muscles that I didn't even realized I'd USED,lol.

I'm not going to lie, if I DO decide to go hit up Aradia fitness I want to get MUCH better before I even step foot in that studio even for a beginner's class. I can't help it I am violently allergic to making a complete ass of myself in public.

Hahahahaha. I KNOW, RIGHT?! Yeah. Same exact emotions. Congrats, my dear.

Are you able to do more moves now?

I just got a pole last Friday. On Friday, I was horrible. I was embarrassed because it wasn't like my first time being around a pole, I've been stripping for damn near a year so I figured it would all come easily to me but boy was I wrong. I couldn't hold myself up even for a second. I couldn't do ANY tricks. I tried wrapping my legs around the pole and holding myself up but it felt like the pole was pinching the skin on my thighs so I couldn't do that either. I play around on the pole for about an hour every day. Three days after I got the pole, I was able to climb it (barely). Today, 8 days after I got it, I can now hold my body weight for like 30 seconds. I can climb it higher, do simple tricks, and my arms look way less flabby

So my advice is to just work at it every day. You'll improve EVERY day.
