Default When should you lower your prices?

My BF and I have been arguing for the past week or so about what price I should charge. He argues that I can make more money faster by charging less. Lower price = more privates and more customers at once. I'm happy with my $2.99 for the most part, which isnt even that expensive, but he says I could make a lot more if I dropped it by a dollar or so. I HATE the idea of lowering my prices but he is right in some aspects.

When I started, I charged $0.99 for the first couple weeks then raised it to $1.29, then $1.49. As much as I hate to admit it, I was able to make my quota much faster than I can nowadays... usually it took me around 5 hours to make $200, whereas yesterday I was online for 6 1/2 hours and only made $180 (on Streamate). Right now I've been on for two hours and only made $28.

SO my question is... when is it a smart move to actually LOWER your price? I love getting over $1 per minute (my cut), but my privates are fewer now than they were before. I still get plenty of customers willing to pay that price, but I'm not making as much as I used to.

I know that you ladies tend to charge a lot, but when push comes to shove, if i'm just not making my quota fast enough... should I consider lowering? I'd love to hear your opinion.

well I think you should only set a price that YOU are comfortable working for. Try a few different prices in the same range to see if it makes a difference. If 2.99 isn't working for you right now try $2.50 and see what happens. You can always change it back.

Supply and Demand should say it all

Lower the rate until you hit a comfortable ratio of clients/earnings and change as the market changes.

Charge what you feel your time is worth. If you feel comfortable charging .99 a minute then by all means.. I just couldn't. Lowering your price just so others can afford you is not good/smart marketing like most think. It's called mental abuse.

I think we talked about this before in another thread. The girl that charges more is working less and smarter... the girl that charges less is working MORE and harder

Stick to your guns! If you're really that hard up for money and want to throw in the towel then lower your rate but me? I'd stick to my guns and promote myself more knowing surely they'll come

^^^ Malaya makes an excellent point. Assuming for a minute that your bf is right- that you could make more money charging less- what good is that if it makes it harder for you to do your job? If lowering your rates makes you feel bad about yourself, then it might not be worth it. And that in turn might affect your performance, will could in turn affect your income. It doesn't sound like your bf is seeing the big picture. Ultimately, only you can decide what's best for yourself.

Thanks for the advice, girls. I don't mind lowering my prices a bit, to say $2.50 or so, but then I wonder if a guy who is willing to spend 2.50, wouldn't he also spend 2.99? Doesn't seem like a huge difference to me.

I don't mind spending less time in private at my higher price, because I certainly don't have to work nearly as hard as I used to, but all that time in free chat adds up, and I'd rather spend that extra hour or two with my family rather than sitting around waiting for a private.

The only problem with lowering my prices now is that I've been getting a lot of regulars lately who seem to buy a show every day almost, so if I lower my prices I automatically lose money on them.

We ARE tight on money at the moment, though... so I don't know.

I have to make sure my profit is at least over $1.00 a minute so I am always above $2.99 a minute, you have to consider your take home pay and how many shows you have to do to reach your goals.

Don't change it just yet honey! I'm on streamate too and last night was like pulling teeth to get privates, and so far tonight it is pretty slow. But all week was awesome for me until last night. I would give it a couple more days before making a decision.

if you're desperate for money dudes can almost smell that desperation and (for me) sales slow. When i act like i don't give a shit whether or not I do a single show and I'm just there to have fun I do extremely well. This business you can't expect to have good nights every night, but you should be able to pull decent nights on average. If that's not happening then maybe it's time to vamp your hustle or give yourself a pedicure, or a manicure anything to make you feel renewed/refreshed/recharged.

I have no problem keeping my prices high, guys will and do pay but i make for dayum sure I'm worth every cent

I've always been very meticulous about keeping very detailed spreadsheets that organize my earnings by site, type, day, hour, week and month so I know on which site which days are better and worse for me. If you do this, you can know for example on Streamate Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are great for you, but maybe Saturday afternoons aren't so good, and instead of lowering your prices overall, you could just make yourself cheaper for a few hours on the day that is consistently slowest for you. I always did this on Niteflirt when it would get slower toward the end of the month and it always helped bigtime. But since it wasn't done *all* the time, it never took away from the days when I was always doing good... maybe you could try something like that for a week or two, take note of whether it helps or harms your income, and then decide whether you want to keep that method or try something else...? Just a suggestion...

I completely agree with you. I catch myself sometimes getting aggravated when it is slow and have to remind myself to relax and act like I'm having fun.

Thanks again girls! Yeah, I never try to act desperate, in fact I never really PUSH for people to go private, I just hang out, smile and make small talk. I don't do the whole "mmmm baby i need a big cock, wanna play?" thing that a lot of models do. But I dunno, maybe I should start being more aggressive.

Angeleyes, what you said is what my BF and I are trying to do and the reason why he is pushing for lower prices, just to experiment and record our earnings at different prices to determine the "soft spot" and also which days are busier than others, etc. I admit I haven't been too open to his ideas, but I guess I need to try it out because at this point, I'm not making my income goals.

Streamate has been PAINFULLY slow for me today. My goal was $200 and so far I've made about $50. Unfortunately, about an hour ago I started feeling REALLY sore down there, and right now my vagina is super red and swollen. I think I'm having an allergic reaction to the new lube I bought this morning. SO I'm officially done for the night. I just took a shower and I really hope I'm better for tomorrow.

Tomorrow I think I have no choice but to lower my price dramatically, tell my customers its a "special" and see what happens. I need to make as much money as possible before the end of the pay period.

aww that sucks. i'm sorry for you. is there any way perhaps you could experiment with different angles on cam to make it appear like you're dildoing yourself when really you're not? or if you don't use toys you can kind of reach in front of your body with your legs open and kind of tuck your fingers under, only showing the top half of your fingers and move really fast like you're pounding the shit out of your shit... that works for me quite frequently when i just don't feel like inserting anything. i hope it works out for you hun ::hugs::

I myself, believe NO WOMAN is worth below $4.99 especially, depending on the site you work on you should consider charging more if ur just receiving 35% help balance ur loss of percentage by upping ur price. Charging more you will notice the difference in your customer base.... for me I've realized guys who wanna treat u like shit, usually will not be willing to pay more, this may vary though by what you as a host entertain ur customers or do in prvt and by what u offer. Keep in mind, its always BETTER to start at a higher price, then from starting low then go up!!!

you get a different group of men when you charge high. ANd I can bet you my SAVINGS, that yul will do LESS sex shows. These men want experiences! the cheap asses want to see how much pussy they can get for 1.999 in 3 minutes. FUCK THEM, and FUCK that. if you are low in cash, SELL SOMETHING, JOIN AN EXTRA SITE.

SOmebody told me this once before and i'll never forget it : if you keep changing your price, they will wait around until you are at your cheapest. THATS HURTING YOUR BUSINESS.

You are NOT desperate you beautiful woman! and you ARE worth so much more than getting the money "quicker". tell your husband to get HIS ass on cam. then smack him.

Lowering your rates only devalues your services. Once you lower your rates guys flock then when you raise them they're like "OH hell no I could have had her for $2 last week" and you know what they will do ? they will wait till you go on special again. Yup men are assholes but they're SMART assholes.

Even with my current job (escorting) I would be lying if I said I have never had a bad week. There was a week when I didn't get any calls. Mind you my rates are higher than most girls in my area. I didn't think "I know what i'll do, I'll lower them" nope. I went on my website looked at my pics, my texts and thought "Time for a change". I updated my ads with NEW pictures and started participating in forums and the $$$ came in! Think Promote Promote Promote don't sell yourself short. When you start shorting yourself..Men think you were never worth the money you were charging in the first place. They start to think that there is something wrong with you. If anything, Raise your rates. Trust me on this one.. I know

Yeah don't lower your rates unless your doing a special like cheap chats every friday. Other than for doing 'cheap' days I don't think you should ever lower them. I lowered my prices on one site by a dollar and it didn't even make a difference if anything I noticed traffic being SLOWER when my prices were 1 dollar cheaper. Fuck men get money!!!!!!!

If u have all reqeriments for charge the price that u want DONT LOWER IT, personally i cant charge very much as i want and as i think i worth but its for tecnical reasons. My upload is 250k (isnt the best and i hope it could change soon, bcause isnt able more speed in my area yet) and i dont have a high qality webcam like a logitech. So i cant ask for many money, BUT.....
If u have a best speed conection...
If u have a good qality webcam
If u have a nice enviroment
If u have the equipament (toys, lingerie etc etc tec)
If u consider yourself experienced, and entertaining

U SHOULDNT LOW IT bcause u got all 4 what a guy could pay for... and maybe u got less clients but more $$$, because if u lower the price u get less %$ with MORE work. U understeand my point?

This is something that I struggle with a lot. On one hand I think...I'm doing naked sex shows, motherfuckers need to PAY WELL for that...and on the other...but I could get more shows at a lower price. Someone I know says that cam girls need to get rid of their "percieved value" of themselves and as such charge as low as they can to therefore get more shows and make more money. I don't really think I buy into that though. A good cam girl is a specialized service. Not everyone can do this job and do it well. A lot of people don't even WANT to do this job. ....Idk, it's a tough call....

Thanks girls, I've decided I'll probably keep my prices on Streamate at $2.99, with maybe one day a week as a "special" where I charge $1.99. If these special days turn out to be considerably more profitable than my regular days, I'll consider lowering my price permanently (but I doubt I will ).

I'm going to start working a lot more on other sites, particularly AdultWork and MFC. I think I got an infection from that lube I bought yesterday so this afternoon I'm gonna work 4-5 hours on MFC where privates will be few and far between (if I get any at all, lol), and I'll be logged on to Adultwork at the same time. Who knows, maybe I'll luck out and make $100 in an hour like I did my first day on MFC... or I might make $5. Who knows? MFC is definitely a gamble for me, but with this infection I can't really be jamming myself with a dildo all day.

BTW pussyplayground, my boyfriend DOES do webcam, in fact yesterday he made more than I did and he spent less hours online! lol.

You know that can be a hard decision for someone to make for you. I honestly think you are worth more than any price you are charging... I mean I feel like you and any other Lady are priceless, really. You shouldn't lower your price for some cheap ass guys over the internet but I do understand how when in a certain position it can feel like the best move for you.

You should do what you are comfortable with. You should set a price that still makes you feel like you are Hot Shit. You should not be at a price that makes you feel like you are really selling yourself short are makes you feel degraded or something.

Like AngelEyes said you should look at it strategically and like a business and see what days bank and what days don't. That way you can make a calculated decision that works for you....whatever you choose to do. So you can know what your best and slow days are.....

But if you are making your goal in shorter time and like doing it ( regardless if the other girl is making more than you and working less) then do what is going to make you feel content at the end of the day and works for you. I think the Ladies here just want you know that sometimes you have bad days and sometimes you have great days so you just have to stick it out at the price you want.

I will say if you can stick it out at your higher price then stay there and wait because eventually they will come but I am by no means in your shoes right now.....and If you are okay with a lower price and are successful with it...then go that route....

Lot's of Hugs n Support in you decision...***
