Default Study looks at what makes men good dancers

Under the "who the hell funds this stuff?" category, scientists attempted to study what makes men good dancers in the eyes of women.

Scientists Study What Makes A Man A Good Dancer

"Evolutionary psychologist Nick Neave filmed men dancing, converted the videos into dancing avatars and asked women to rate the avatars' dancing ability. The researchers found that the highly rated male dancers had some moves in common."

I can see how the "bad" dancer was rated as such, but I thought the "good" dancer (according to the group of women who judged them) was very feminine.

Looking at a computer avatar is not the same as looking at a real person though, those women couldn't be judging which one looked more attractive because none of those avatars looked any different or even like a real human. So they rated their dancing skills only, and of course the more fancy looking one won. Any man dancing like that on a dance floor would look ridiculous though, that avatar reminded me of the Carlton dance from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I mean look at it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1cLOIxsQ8 i think thats exactly what he was doing.

Which was why they converted them to avatars, to remove any visual influences other then the actual dancing, so they didn't simply pick the best looking guys who may have been terrible dancers.

Not quite. They found some very specific moves were strongly correlated to the women's ratings, so the more "fancy" was not simply what did it.

I thought the "good" dancer looked more like a gay club goer, but (1) we didn't see the other choices (2) you can't figure out why women make the choices they do most of the time on much of anything.

I dont know.. I liked the the "bad" dancer.. I dont see anything wrong with him based on my opinion. I see guys dance like that often at places. If I had to pick whom to dance with it would be the bad dancer.. less work, less staring, less sweating and trying to keep up with him. As for the better dancer.. No way I would never approach him, I'd think he is gay or just not interested in women. But who I rather prefer to watch, is the good dancer, cause he makes me giggle.

I think it's about the technically good dancing, not necessarily the sexiest dancing.
