    Dizzy I'm getting arthritis

It's only in my hands, thumbs, wrists at this point but I feel 100% that it's due to the zealous nature in which I had approached pole dancing. Maybe it could be a repetitive stress injury but I think arthritis. I don't know. I'm just scared that someday I won't be able to do simple things. Losing your hands is a terrible fate. I'm only 25. Has anyone else experienced this???

By the way it has been 6+ months since I've pole danced so taking it easy or something is not really the issue. I'm very low impact...just feeling it while preparing food, dish washing, iphone using and on my laptop.

I'll bet a million dollars that its really cts; maybe tendonitis. I've had both from gripping the pole the wrong way whole doing pole work.

At the age of 33 I was diagnosed with arthritis, though I've suspected it for years. I've always had bad ankles and when dancing in heels had to be very careful. I had knee surgery because my knee was basically destroyed by arthritis.

Has it really hurt me? Yes and no. On my good days I can do what I could before. I swim and run with no problem. On my bad days I have stiffness but still can walk. I don't know if I got it from genetics (my family has a strong case), or either being a dancer or an athlete. I'll probably never know but I live like I always did.

Yup! Been pole dancing for almost 16 years! I have had carpal tunnel since the 2nd yr, but recently I have had major stiffness in my whole hands and fingers all the way up to my forearms. Its totally different symptoms from the carpal tunnel as that was just an achy pain that went away when I kept my wrist in a brace. This is a tingly, swollen & stiff sensation.

YOU AND I BOTH need to go to the dr to get diagnosed!!!!

^^^ oh, I forgot- one of my pole students has rhumatoid (sp?) arthritis in her hands. She is on meds and they help alot. That's why we need a doc, so that we can function if diagnosed. I mean, she has her days where we can't do too much on the pole w/o her being in pain- but for the most part, the meds keep it in check.

I have carpal tunnel in my wrists from colorguard (i'm 22) also dislocated my knee cap years ago so at work, and i have scholiosis, while i dont do a lot of pole work (though id really really like to) my back , knees, and ankles are pretty shot and I havent been dancing for all that long. My dad has fibromyalgia and arthritis, and I'm nervous it'll happen to me also..he never lets anything stop him, but does have days where its very difficult for him to walk. I was really thinking of trying acupuncture - anyone have good response from acupuncture?

Wow, I feel a lil better I'm not alone but not really because it just means more people are hurting! I don't have insurance but I want to get it. Do you think that when they have me do an initial dr. visit, I should keep quiet about this? I wouldn't insure someone with a pre-existing condition like that, it could mean a lifetime of bills.

Eventually I do want to tell a dr. but I just don't want to admit it at this point and it's not *really* holding me back. Maybe just take some otc condroitin(sp?)/glucosamine stuff.

I think you would be better off seeing a doctor now. If you don't have to live with the pain then you shouldn't.

I live in Canada so I really don't know about initial consultations. I think I would keep quiet about it.

Actually I think it's tendonitus! Which is still not good but for some reason less scary to me. More personably manageable than arthritis. I'm still just mystified as to why it's hitting me now? 25 is old too old to repair??? When I was 16-24 I worked HARD in restaurants, cafes, and the strip club but I always bounced back so well. I'm healthy and drug/alcohol free now and then I was not. It makes no sense.

I hear what you are saying. I am 25 as well, but don't seem to be having the same problems as you. I have got different health problems problems that worry me. I am experiencing light periods, acne and NO PMS at all. I think I may have pcos, but I am too scared to ask my doctor about it.

16-24 I was really in to academics (high school honor roll student, attended university and obtained a degree) and work life. I wrote tons of papers, read books, worked crazy hours at a desk job, gained lots of weight and lost it. I also did drugs-coke, e, meth, etc. Now I am healthy weight (5'7 tall and 136 pounds) and I don't involve myself in the drug life. I also don't smoke or drink or stress over writing papers and worry about getting published. I have a pretty stress free life and now I am getting health problems!

Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Maybe we were too distracted before? Now I'm a whiner, ha ha.

    GOOD NEWS!

I saw my my therapist and she said it doesn't look like arthritis! She said that I have been over working my shoulders & hands and haven't kept up with therapy so there are knots everywhere cutting off circulation to my forearms, wrists and hands.

So, I have to see her more often to keep the circulation. But I don't mind to have feeling in my hands again!!! Apparently, this is also the cause of many of my headaches too. Yay for therapeutic massage!

Dancing for 15 years my body is in so much pain every night. When I sit down and stand up I can hear all of my joints pop and crack. I first had arthritis when I was 28....now 35. I absolutely have to get massages at least once a week.
